Now, reasonably, what would you do if you bombed a spelling test? As in, completely screwed up, spelled half your words with unnecessary vowels and spelled the other half with too many consonants? Obviously, you would try to hide your grade, right?
The last three sentences was the thought process of Araya, which led her here to a fireplace, planning to throw her report card into the fire and tell everyone that it would come next week, and then just hope they forgot. Unfortunately for her, she hadn't checked the clock, and right as she got to the fire, the front door opens.
Let's switch perspectives here, just for a moment, alright? Imagine you've just got in your house, you're tired from doing whatever it is you do all day, and you see your kid standing by the fireplace, holding a paper that has a 0/100, a large red F-. and a "you're cooked lil kid" on it. Reasonably, would you not run over and try to move them away from the fire, before inspecting the paper?
That was the thought process and actions of Ryoshu, who, safe to say, was not very happy about this, mostly because she knows Araya is smarter than this. So, logically, she calls the teacher to see if there was some sort of mistake, and the conversation goes about like this,
"Hello, this is Ryoshu, the mother of the child Araya, who is in your class."
"Yo what's good Araya's mom."
"Her report card is not good. Was there some sort of mistake? Do not make me come and C.Y."
"Ayo you're gonna clap me???"
BEEP
Ryoshu is met with the sound of the dial tone, meaning the annoying voice on the other line has hung up. Araya, who obviously was very concerned, had managed to inch away, until Ryoshu calls her back, suddenly with a new idea, "Araya, C.O.H.N." If Araya isn't going to raise her grades like a normal person, Ryoshu can just use SANGRIA to annoy her daughter into using the smart genes again.
"Araya, I.H.C.A.I.M.I, I.W.S.L.T.U.Y.R.Y.G.", said the, rather smug looking Ryoshu.
In retaliation of this, Araya launches her report card into the fire, before practically shouting, "Don't shorten it like that! You're not a watermelon so you're not the goat, so you can't say that!"
After some back and forth of this over about two weeks, Araya returns home with another report card, and this time, Valencina is the first one to see it. "Whiner, how the hell did you get a G minus? What kind of fucking school uses that grading system, are you a goddamn idiot?"
Before Araya even gets the chance to reply, Valencina has somehow magically gotten a whip, belt, coat hanger, slipper, and about a dozen other things that she doesn't have time to recognize or count, since she just has to book it. Thankfully, Araya is small enough that she can get into small places, things like safes and vaults (haha), or behind the couch.
A solid three hours later, after hiding behind a couch, and Valencina leaving to go buy something called 'enikephalin-infused marijuana', Araya comes out and runs to the kitchen this time, to burn her report card on the stove, only to run straight into Callisto and Matthias.
"Ah, hey kiddo! What's this paper ya got here?" Matthias looked down at her, glancing at the paper in her hand. Meanwhile, Callisto is too flabbergasted to say anything, he didn't know that G minus's even existed. Matthias spots the grade, and genuinely thinks it's fake, up until he sees the teacher's signature.
"How... how did you do that? Kid?" Before she knows it, both Callisto and Matthias are stunned at the grade, with Callisto muttering, "This child is not going to become a maestro, a D+ in art...". Shiomi Yoru walks by, presumably to go sit at the window and reflect on her life choices because she's still not allowed to leave this house. Briefly, she glances at the report card, and out loud, asks to herself, "Was I this stupid as a child?".
Araya, feeling insulted, replies with "Have you ever tried just.. walking out?" A scoff comes from Shiomi Yoru, although it sounds fake, "Of course I've tried that, you foolish child." Contrary to that, Araya, Matthias, and Callisto watch as Shiomi Yoru walks to the door, opens it hesitantly, and then just steps out, and it works.
Ignoring that, Rien comes from wherever he was, holding his pager. He turns to the trio, and addresses them. "The Prescript has instructed me to recite this poem, and engage in a hobby known as larping. I shall begin now. I have nothing but my sorro-" At that moment, a very loud, very drunk voice yells, "RIEN! SHUT UP!" Presumably Valencina, back from wherever she was.
Araya takes this chance to slip away into the kitchen, because she stills needs to burn that report card. Unfortunately for her, she accidentally trips on the radio cord, which turns it to a random channel, and suddenly, the kitchen is filled with the sound of someone shouting, "I AM FIRE, BURN THOSE WHO DARE TO CARE FOR ME!" That alerts Ryoshu, who comes downstairs and into the kitchen, and then confiscates Araya's report card to look at it.
"Araya, H.D.Y.G.A.G.M?"
"I don't know, mommy!"
"...L.M.H.Y."
Thankfully, Araya receives the much needed help with spelling, and manages to score a solid B+ on the next report card. Unfortunately, when Ryoshu comes to her school to pick her up, Araya's teacher still thinks that she wants to clap him, so it's a kind of awkward reaction.
If everyone keeps this decent behavior up, maybe a beach trip should happen, everyone could listen to the sea waves, make sand castles, and watch said sand castles get absolutely violated by the sea waves. Another day in this god forsaken household.
