Rain was still pattering against the window when Silvia woke, feeling groggy and not at all refreshed. She must’ve fallen asleep at some point, book in hand and glasses still on her face. It was just one of those days, you know? The dreary sky, the relaxing sound. A perfect recipe for an unintentional nap that’ll disrupt your sleep schedule.
Pushing herself onto her elbow, Silvia moved her book to the floor and stole a glance around the room. The shades were up but the rest of the room was lit only by the ugly lamp her mother insisted they keep, so the day was probably at its end.
“Ahhh, just great,” she sighed, slumping back onto the sofa. At this point, she might as well just fall back to sleep. “Hey, Jeannie–”
Jeannie stirred quietly at her back.
Silvia recalled Jeannie coming home, curling up with her on the sofa, and then… Yep, it was just one of those days, she supposed. There was no way Jeannie could resist a good nap.
“Jeannie, wake up, it's almost dark already.”
She reached behind her to prod Jeannie awake, only to find a pile of fur instead of skin. Soft, twitchy ears and a snoot that was half-squashed between Silvia's butt and the cushions.
“Hah,” Silvia rolled over, laughing fondly to herself at the sight of her girlfriend looking so completely relaxed that she hadn't even noticed she'd shifted into something four-legged with a lot more teeth. A soft awooo escaped her after a moment, and Silvia couldn't resist snuggling down, arms wrapped tightly around her as she giggled into her fur.
“You're so cute.”
“Awoo?”
“Oh, did I wake you?” Silvia’s eyes were already closed. “Sorry... couldn't resist. Wake me up if you want dinner, okay? I think… I'll just…”
