Work Text:
Practice had been going perfectly normally.
Which, for Leo/need, meant that something was probably about to go horribly wrong.
Saki was sitting on the floor, dramatically sprawled across the classroom like she had just returned from battle.
“I can’t do it anymore…”
Ichika looked over.
“You’ve been practicing for forty minutes.”
“I’ve given everything I have.”
“You missed one note.”
“That note destroyed me.”
Honami giggled from beside her.
“You’re being dramatic again, Saki.”
“I am a passionate artist.”
“You’re a cornball,” Shiho muttered.
Saki gasped.
“Shiho!”
Before she could launch into another speech, the classroom door opened.
Miku stepped inside carrying a bag.
“Girls! I brought snacks!”
Saki’s entire demeanor changed instantly.
“MOM!”
Miku stopped.
Shiho closed her eyes.
“Oh, God.”
Miku pointed at herself.
“Me?”
Saki jumped to her feet.
“Yes! You!”
“I don’t think I’m your mom.”
Saki grabbed Miku’s hands dramatically.
“You may not be my mother by blood…”
Ichika immediately covered her mouth.
Honami started giggling.
Shiho’s expression became one of genuine dread.
“…but in my HEART,” Saki continued, “you’re my mom.”
There was silence.
Shiho stared at her.
“Saki, shut the hell up. You have a mom at home. You cornball.”
Saki looked personally wounded.
“You don’t understand the depth of our bond!”
“We met her like three weeks ago.”
“Exactly! And look how far we’ve come!”
Miku looked delighted.
“I like this.”
“Don’t encourage her,” Shiho said.
Too late.
Miku pulled Saki into a hug.
“Come here, my daughter.”
Saki practically ascended.
“MOM!”
Shiho put her face in her hands.
“I hate this band.”
“You don’t,” Honami said.
“I do.”
“You’d miss us.”
“I’d miss the music.”
“Sure,” Ichika said.
Shiho glared at her.
“You too?”
Ichika smiled.
“…I kind of like having another mom.”
Shiho stared at her.
“Seriously?”
Ichika shrugged.
“She brings snacks.”
Honami nodded thoughtfully.
“And she reminds us to rest.”
Saki pulled away from Miku just long enough to point at them.
“See?! They understand!”
“I didn’t say anything,” Shiho said.
“You’re the only one left.”
“I’m not participating.”
The door opened again.
Luka stepped inside.
She took one look at the scene.
Miku hugging Saki.
Saki looking triumphant.
Honami and Ichika smiling.
Shiho looking like she wanted to evaporate.
Luka blinked.
“…What happened?”
Saki immediately pointed at her.
“Luka!”
“Yes?”
“Do you want to be my other mom?”
Shiho’s head snapped toward her.
“Saki.”
“What?”
“You cannot just collect mothers.”
“Why not?”
“Because that’s not how mothers work!”
Luka laughed.
“Well…”
She crouched slightly so she was eye-level with Saki.
“I wouldn’t mind.”
Saki gasped.
“ANOTHER MOM?!”
Miku nodded.
“Looks like we’re a family now.”
Shiho looked horrified.
“No.”
Honami smiled.
“I think it’s nice.”
Ichika nodded.
“Yeah.”
Shiho pointed at them.
“You two are actually accepting this?”
Honami thought about it.
“…They’re pretty good moms.”
“I can’t believe this.”
Saki threw her arms around Luka.
“Mom number two!”
“I’m still your mom too,” Miku said.
“Of course!”
Saki turned around dramatically.
“Shiho, you have two moms now!”
Shiho stared at her.
“No, I don’t.”
“You do in your heart.”
“I swear to God, if you say that again…”
Saki grinned.
“In your heart—”
“Saki.”
“Okay, okay!”
Shiho sighed and went back to tuning her guitar.
A few seconds passed.
Then she quietly asked,
“…Did Miku bring those melon breads?”
Miku smiled.
“Yep.”
Shiho held out her hand.
“…Give me one.”
Saki’s eyes widened.
“See?! She’s accepting Mom!”
“I am accepting the melon bread.”
“Same thing.”
“It is absolutely not the same thing.”
Luka handed Shiho a melon bread.
“Here you go, sweetheart.”
Shiho paused.
Her face turned slightly pink.
“…Thanks.”
Saki immediately started laughing.
“HAHA! SHE LIKES MOM!”
“I’m going to kill you.”
Miku clapped her hands.
“Family bonding!”
“THIS ISN’T FAMILY BONDING!”
Honami was laughing so hard she had to sit down.
Ichika had already given up trying to maintain order.
And Saki?
Saki was beaming.
She had two moms now.
Life was good.
