Work Text:

Bunny doesn't want to be here.

It's something made obvious by the way he drags his feet when walking through the hallways, starting petty arguments , and interrupting the teachers constantly as they droned on and on about nothing. He even tried to start a fight with a teacher hoping that would be the straw that broke the camel's back; snide comments, cursing— making a fuss you will, but no. He was sent right back to class.

He has no one to blame but himself for his predicament really. Just what was he thinking getting into a fight at a private school? Not his brightest moment, but he won't ever admit to that.

"It's just a side school for students like you who need a bit extra...help," the principal had said with a strained smile, already wishing Bunny was gone. "You'll thrive more in an environment fit for you."

Bunny should have known better than to think he was off the hook. He had known better. But then he still let it happen.

Upon his arrival he had already managed to piss off some red-head. Something about being too full of himself, but who cared really? Bunny knew he didn't. Next was the bright eyed looking boy. He might have said his name was Isagi but Bunny didn't care. The joy on the boy's face was enough to make him disgusted. He had tuned out the boy enough to where he got the hint and left on his own, muttering about "just wanting to be nice!" Ugh.

Then it was his first class (he forgot what course) and truly he wanted to be amicable with everyone. Make friends even, but the world just wasn't on his side, was it? As soon as he responded to anything, everyone made the same face. Confusion, then frustration, and the best; agitation. He loved that warm feeling he got in his heart when he knew he was the cause of someone's anger. Seriously nothing could make him feel better.

All that to say though; Bunny was utterly friendless. Not one person had tried to approach him after his whole debacle with a teacher. He didn't mind the silence, but it made him bored. Too bored.

Nobody to talk to, nobody to bother, nobody to crush the dreams of. What was he supposed to do?

Obviously skip his classes.

So now he was here, on a too hot Tuesday afternoon, smoking on a rooftop of some shitty reform school, letting the nicotine chip at his throat.

He was enjoying the silence. How the wind made the heat just a bit more bearable, how the trees rustled quietly, even how the sun bore down on him ruthlessly. He enjoyed it.

That is to say until his peace was disturbed. The rooftop door groaned with use, the heavy things digging into the concrete floor like it was owed money.

What—or well who, he saw walk through destroyed the mental image Bunny was conjuring up in his head. A face too pretty, too calm, and hair too white. What was he supposed to do with that?

The boy glanced around a bit, seemingly making mental notes of everything before his eyes finally landed on Bunny. They made eye contact, but nothing happened really. No shock entered the boys face, no alarm, not even annoyance.

But then, just when Bunny thought the silence would stretch on until either of them looked away, the boys mouth started to move. Bunny wouldn't admit it, but it felt like the world had stopped right there.

"Oh."

Oh? That's all he had to say, really? Oh.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Bunny couldn't control his mouth today could he. He hated how desperate he sounded, or maybe the strain in his voice was just something he imagined. Yeah he would go with that.

The white haired boy stared for a bit longer before finally looking away as he spoke.

"Nothing," he spoke with almost boredom in his voice. Tone monotone with the clearest british accent ever.

"You're british?" Bunny had the biggest smile on his face he could muster. It didn't reach his eyes like it should, but his smiles never did nowadays— he was just glad he found a trait he could relentlessly pick apart.

Teddy's face scrunched lightly upon the provocation. "Yeah, so what?" There wasn't a change in his tone, but Bunny could tell he was getting irritated.

"It means nothing! Just wondering what you're doing all the way out here? Sun can't be good for your skin," Bunny teased, eyes glazing over to sweat trickling down the boy's neck. He was sure he would just roll his eyes then leave, or maybe scoff and call him annoying. But no.

To Bunny's chagrin, the other boy slowly looked him up and down and cocked his head a little to the right. "That was lame," he said and Bunny couldn't help but blank.

He never expected to be called out so directly and be called lame on top of it. Yeah it was light, but he was just testing the waters! I mean what if the guy was some maniac who swung his fits at some teasing. So Bunny did what he did best: he smiled harder. He couldn't— no he wouldn't let the embarrassment show on his face.

"Hah! You got me there didn't you?" Bunny stood up, his forgotten cigarette hanging limp between his fingers. He walked lazily over to the boy, swinging his arm over his shoulder. "Sooo, what's your name?”

“Teddy,” the boy— no Teddy said. He was just as calm as he was when he first arrived, his face endearingly blank.

“Alright Teddy! You are coming with me.”

“What are we gonna do?” Teddy quietly asked. He didn't seem to mind Bunny taking the lead so forcefully.

“I’m not sure honestly,” Bunny admitted. He did most things on a whim. Why think so hard when you can let nature guide you?

“It doesn't matter,” Bunny suddenly decided. “All that matters is that it’ll be me and you, you and me. You got it right?” He asked. He didn't really care for what Teddy had to say, but it would be rude not to ask.

Teddy moved his head a bit before a small nod. “Yeah. It can be you and me.”
