Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Pond always imagined that he would be growing old with her. That just seemed like the natural order of life.

Late and lazy weekend mornings. Rushed getting ready for office. Having small private dinners. Occasionally treating themselves to a fancy meal at some high-end restaurant. They were young newly weds. Life seemed sorted.

A bank loan and downpayment for a bigger house. Something to call their own. The one where they could have a tiny swing in the porch for their kids to enjoy. A garden alongside for her to explore her experiments with veggie garden.

Everything was perfect. The dream was there.

Phuwin lived a large life. It was during his early university days that he learnt that, not everything is in his control. Life is harsh. Life is unfair.

That led to his philosophy of "You only live once."

He was 28, entering his 30s. Everyone lectured that he should get married. Find someone to settle down with. That was the norm. That's what everyone did. That's what his best friends did.

Well, his best friend's ended up marrying each other. Now, one of them was dead. Leaving the other one to figure out everything by himself.

A PondPhuwin AU, where they are lawyers. Pond, a recently widowed single father, marries his college best friend for convenience. It is easy. There is just less legal mess. Phuwin who has secretly harboured feelings for Pond for years, does not believe that he will exit this marriage without breaking himself.

Amidst dirty diapers and visits to the grave, love follows them.
