Work Text:
“So, the political system of Inazuma can be described as…”
Alyosha, writing letter by letter, covered his mouth with his hand and yawned. He glanced out the window, watching the leaves—which had already turned green—flutter in the light spring breeze. Exam season was approaching, but at the same time, vacation was just around the corner, and on the one hand, Alyosha wanted to focus more intently on a topic he didn’t particularly like in order to pass his exams successfully, but on the other…
…he had an unbearably strong urge to escape the lecture hall for at least a couple of minutes. And preferably not to come back.
Of course, such a thought contradicted his established image as the “diligent student” whom “everyone else should look up to.” It wasn’t that Alyosha attached much importance to his status among the professors, but his position had left a certain mark on him.
For example, Alyosha simply couldn’t bring himself to leave the lecture hall in the middle of a very important lecture. Something told him that doing so would show a lack of interest. Although, of course, the professor knew Alyosha well… he wouldn’t have taken such an action as a sign of disrespect…
And what’s the harm in asking his classmates for lecture notes afterward? They’re always begging him for them!
“Alyosha,” came a whisper from the side, and Alyosha flinched slightly in surprise.
It was Vodyanitsa, his classmate, partner on their final project, and, incidentally, his best friend. Alyosha frowned slightly, caught off guard, and, running a hand through his hair, set the pen aside.
“What?” he asked just as quietly.
“Your phone’s vibrating,” Vodyanitsa nodded toward where Alyosha’s phone lay. “Put it on silent. Or just answer your boyfriend already,” she pouted, returning to her own notebook and continuing to take notes on the lecture.
“My bo—”
Alyosha sighed, leaving the sentence unfinished, and, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, placed his tablet in front of him and carefully turned on his phone.
beloved mini-Mendeleev
Lyosha
this is very important
Can you come out into the hallway on the second floor near Room 245? Please??
Pleeease
hey
Are you ignoring me???
Lyosha, this is a matter of LIFE and DEATH.
Of course.
Who else could it be but Mitya? No wonder Vodyanitsa guessed right. Alyosha rested his chin on his palm and looked out the window again. Then at his notebook. Then he shifted his gaze to the professor, whose tone had turned monotonous. And he glanced out the window once more…
The choice was obvious.
Alyosha started to get up, but Vodyanitsa, staring at him wide-eyed, grabbed his wrist and sat him back down. A couple of classmates cast quick glances their way.
Vodyanitsa quickly wrote something in her notebook and slid it over to Alyosha.
Where are you going?
Alyosha raised an eyebrow, but Vodyanitsa’s expression was very serious.
Just to the bathroom, quick, he wrote.
?! Just to the bathroom!! This is actually important information!! Every second you miss will cost you your life
“Are you serious?” Alyosha whispered, rolling his eyes.
Serious!! He even wanted to ask questions at the end of the lecture. ORALLY. DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE
“A couple of minutes,” Alyosha said, leaning toward Vodyanitsa, “and I’ll be back. A couple of minutes.”
Vodyanitsa snorted and waved Alyosha away with her hand. In response, he simply poked her in shoulder and then quietly left the lecture hall, trying to draw as little attention to himself as possible.
The university hallway greeted Alyosha with a pleasant coolness and silence. The sound of every step he took echoed off the walls and seemed to ring out too loudly. On his way to the second floor, Alyosha increasingly ran into other students who were on break between classes or whose classes hadn’t started yet. Eventually, he began approaching Room 245.
At that very moment, his phone vibrated.
you won’t even answer
you chose your studies over me
Alyosha smiled. Ahead of him, he saw a figure so familiar, so sweet, so dear to him. Mitya was frowning and staring at his phone with displeasure. He was wearing a khaki shirt adorned with a brooch featuring some chemical element Alyosha didn’t recognize, and cream-colored pants. A milky-white belt framed and accentuated Mitya’s waist, and he wore black sneakers on his feet. Overall, Mitya was dressed as always: in whatever he’d first grabbed that morning.
Finally, Mitya turned off his phone and was about to head back into the lecture hall when his gaze met Alyosha’s.
“Lyosha! Let’s go,” he exclaimed, smiling as he grabbed Alyosha by the wrist and pulled him into a dark corner of the hallway.
Once they were out of sight, Mitya wrapped his arms around Alyosha’s neck and pulled him closer, resting his forehead against Alyosha’s neck and breathing in his pleasant scent.
“Hi,” Alyosha smiled back and placed his hands on Mitya’s waist. “Did you want something?”
“Ooh,” Mitya pouted. “Can’t a student exhausted from studying suddenly just want to see his handsome, precious, best boyfriend?” He narrowed his eyes mischievously, now looking Alyosha straight in the eyes.
Alyosha sighed.
“So, nothing important?” he asked.
“Seeing you is important,” Mitya remarked, playing with Alyosha’s hair with his fingers.
“No life-or-death issues?” Alyosha continued.
Mitya arched his eyebrows and gently pulled Alyosha’s hair back.
“I almost died just now,” Mitya said grumpily. “Our professor got sick, so some guy is filling in for him… I never really figured out… I didn’t catch his name,” Mitya’s gaze darted across Alyosha’s face. “Anyway, I got bored. I went out into the hallway to stand by the window and get some fresh air… And then everything’s a blur,” he chuckled.
“I see,” Alyosha nodded, stroking Mitya’s sides with up-and-down movements.
Mitya tilted his head. His gaze fell on Alyosha’s lips, then returned to his eyes.
“A kiss?” he smiled. “Please?”
Alyosha sighed but leaned toward Mitya and touched his cheek with his lips. When he pulled back, Mitya’s eyes looked like coins, and he was both surprised and angry.
“What?” Alyosha asked, flustered, avoiding Mitya’s gaze.
“I didn’t ask for a kiss on the cheek,” Mitya emphasized, pressing his palm against the back of Alyosha’s head and framing his face with his hot breath. “I asked for one like this.”
The next moment, Mitya touched Alyosha’s lips with a kiss, and Alyosha exhaled, parting his lips slightly. Mitya smirked, gently grabbing Alyosha by the hair and touching his tongue to Alyosha’s, sending electric shocks straight to his head and down his spine. Alyosha, exhaling raggedly, clasped Mitya’s waist with his hands and pressed him harder against the wall, drawing a quiet moan of pleasure from him, his lips sensing how Mitya continued to smile like a contented cat. Mitya continued to murmur barely audibly, pressing his knee between Alyosha’s legs and biting his lips.
Alyosha immediately pulled away, hiding his flushed face behind his palms. Mitya unconsciously reached out after him, but his lips met Alyosha’s hands.
“What’s wrong?” Mitya asked with a hint of disappointment. His gaze darkened.
“N-nothing, just…” Alyosha swallowed, his voice sounding muffled through the palms behind which he was hiding. “Without a tongue…” he whispered.
“What?” Mitya leaned closer, wrapping his fingers around Alyosha’s wrists.
Alyosha remained silent. Mitya waited for a moment, then, clicking his tongue, slowly pulled Alyosha’s hands toward him, drawing him out of his makeshift “hiding place.” Alyosha’s cheeks were burning hot, his lips were bitten, and his eyes shone with excitement and fear.
“Please repeat what you said,” Mitya said gently, placing his hand on Alyosha’s cheek.
“I said, let’s kiss without using our tongues,” Alyosha mumbled quickly.
Mitya’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Why on earth would you say that!” he exclaimed. “Have you fallen out of love with me or something?” he asked with feigned sadness.
Alyosha looked Mitya in the eyes, then, grabbing his hand, placed it on his groin. Mitya froze.
“No, it’s just that… I can’t go back to class like this.”
“Oh,” Mitya looked down. “I get it,” he smiled, squeezing Alyosha with his hand. “Where’d all your courage go, huh?”
“Mitya…” Alyosha whispered warningly, grabbing Mitya by the wrist and then pinning his hands against the wall above his head. “I promised Vodyanitsa I’d be back in a couple of minutes. Are you happy now?” he asked, embarrassed.
“Nope,” Mitya shook his head, then planted a kiss on the corner of Alyosha’s lips. And then again, right in the center of his lips; he brushed his lips across Alyosha’s cheek, leaned toward his ear, scorching it with his breath and making Alyosha tremble softly, then moved down to his neck, grazing the tender skin with his teeth…
Alyosha’s grip on his arms loosened, and Mitya smiled slyly, wrapping his arms tightly around Alyosha’s shoulders and savoring his warmth. He rubbed his cheek against Alyosha’s shoulder and exhaled.
“So soft and warm,” Mitya murmured barely audibly, planting another kiss on Alyosha’s neck, and then along his jawline. “I don’t want to let you go,” he whimpered, as if he were a child whose favorite toy was about to be taken away.
Alyosha smiled and stroked his back.
“Just a couple more hours,” he began, “and we’ll head home.”
“You’ll be done sooner…” Mitya said sadly, winding a lock of Alyosha’s hair around his finger and continuing to cover his neck with dry, quick kisses.
“I can wait for you. Or make dinner,” Alyosha kissed Mitya on the top of his head. “What do you want for dinner?”
Mitya paused, playing with a button on Alyosha’s shirt.
“Wait for me,” he said after a moment, then pulled back, looking into Alyosha’s eyes. “Let’s go home together. We’ll order something.”
Alyosha planted a kiss on Mitya’s lips and ruffled his hair.
“Okay,” he replied, walking Mitya to his classroom. He looked tired and sad, but at the same time beamed with joy because Alyosha had made time for him.
When Alyosha returned to his classroom, the clock showed that fifteen minutes had passed, not just a couple of minutes, and Vodyanitsa shot him with a furious glare, writing in her notebook:
HE ASKED ME, YOU TRAITOR
