Out Of Place

Summary:

"Please get an easy one, please get an easy one, please please please," I whisper under my breath. I watch as the digital wheel stops and confetti shoots out. "Longing?" I ask aloud, quickly covering my face in embarrassment.

My classmates laugh. "Yes Jade, longing. What do you long for?" My teacher talks over their laughter.

I pause to think. She laughs, "don't answer me, write a poem."

Without a second thought I scramble to find my pen and paper. What do I long for?

A poem on what I long for.

Notes:

To me and my many years I've yearned to belong.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

On Earth, I am simply there

Walking, talking, living here

Human by Birth

Alien to Earth

During the day,

The humans ask why I differ

During the night,

The moon asks why I linger

I tell the humans, "I'm reaching for the stars"

I tell the moon, "my roots are buried in dirt"

With that they sigh, "what a shame"

And without a doubt, I feel the same

In which I can only pray

That hopefully one day

I'll find a place

Where I'm just enough for Earth and outer space

Notes:

I made this for school today! I like it a lot. It's still freeverse but I tried rhyming more. I really gotta try using rhyming schemes and meters soon, gotta get out of my comfort zone one day.
