Work Text:
Parrot was humming bored by Laufey, lying on his back, a ditch effort for some comforting entertainment in his life. As the song is titled- he felt bored out of his mind currently. Writing scripts and filming for unstable are not jobs for the weak that’s for sure. Actually while on the topic, because of Unstable recordings he missed his chance to buy the new Laufey album that he so dearly wanted. So you could expect his displeasure when he found out not long after. The ave complained to some of his friends about the situation and how he wanted to get the album so bad, but at last. That didn’t change anything.
His small melody reached the bridge of the song and the wings connected to his head fluttered slightly as they were also trying to sing along. But the before he knew it a discord message pinged at his monitor. The man stretched off his bed, and grudgingly forced himself into his chair. A sharp yawn relived his annoyance and he switched tabs onto discord. Of course, Derapchu was messaging him at this hour. Who else would?
Derapchu
yo man you should hop on call with us
Parrot began to type and Derapchu took that as his sign to invite him to some random call.
Parrot
Whos on the call????
Derapchu
uhhh
Me Wifies Avery
Wifies wants you to join
Parrot
Clip farmer
You streaming?
Derapchu
Nope we’re just yapping
Parrot dramatically sighed for the 100th time and went to go get a drink before joining. Thirty seconds later he plopped back into his chair while sipping water from his bottle. His fingers locked onto his mouse and he clicked the join button.
“HEYYYY X2!” Poor Parrots’ ears were violated from the git-go.
“HI PARROT ITS AVERY!” Gladly, Avery wasn’t as loud as Derapchu over there.
The avian chuckled to himself and greeted the two back. Soon enough the avian realized someone was on mute currently, “Hey where’s Wifies? He is the one who wanted me to join.” He asked curiously as he began playing with his headphones.
Avery scoffed, “Bro just disappeared after he asked Derapchu to add you on the call like 5 minutes ago. We don’t know where he went.”
Parrot nodded even though they couldn’t see him currently. “Whatever, join us on Minecraft man!” Derapchu added- brushing off Wifies.
_____
A sleek 10 minutes pasted, conversations about whatever filled Parrots ears now, instead of Laufey. In those 10 minutes Wifies still hadn’t came back. The three were all just messing around in some random Minecraft world Avery had loaded up. They were all playing with commands and creative, building horrendous things across the grass. Albeit everyone stopped when the sound of Wifies mic began to go off.
“L-aides, and gentlemen, *cough* I’m back.” Derapchu and Avery erupted into joking cheers and claps while Parrot sat and watched.
“Yo, you sound terrible. Are you sick out of nowhere or something?” Derap remarked, you could basically imagine his face even though he didn’t have his face cam on either.
Wifies laughed, somehow he hadn’t noticed his best friend in the call yet. Parrot assumed Wifies wasn’t looking at his screen currently. The sounds of a box being ripped open could be heard from his mic. “Massachusetts air quality sucks right now, I had to go get a package from my PO Box. But maybe… I’m also just sick of you guys.” Wifies laughed momentarily before Derapchu cut him off.
“Really? Even Parrot over here?” You could practically feel him grinning through the screen.
Parrot face palmed, even when Derapchu’s not on stream he is still as pushy as ever. It’s like the three knew something Parrot didn’t. Hmm, interesting, the ave wondered.
The Harvard student went silent for a second, the question probably throwing him off guard. Avery and Derapchu were hitting each other in game- snickering like little kids. The whole scene made Parrot want to laugh too.
“W-Well, uhm. Parrot just joined the call not too long ago- thus I’m not sick of him. Also, hi Parrot.” His voice was such a nice tune when nervous, Parrot thought but pushed the notion away. The bird smiled brightly before replying.
“Yeah- and hi back, Wifies.” He sung, placing his head on his hand. Finally his best friend was here, how neat.
“Nice one Wifies. Now can you JOIN US?” Avery yelled. You could practically hear Wifies fall into his chair. “Okay! Okay. I’m coming!”
___________
“And in Erased- if he didn’t save the girl he would keep going back in time again and again until he figured out who murdered her! The storyline in Erased was actually interesting for my mind to feed off of. You should definitely watch the show!”
Wifies was in the middle of one of his rambles about a new show he’s binged watched.
The call consisted of just them two now, the time being 1:16 am. The both of them had their face cams on for whatever reason, they were talking for sometime till now.
Idly, Parrot sat in his gaming chair. Head lying across his arms, calm, content, that’s how someone would describe him at this very moment. He was slowly drifting off to sound of Wifies radiant voice, it was like falling asleep to those rain sounds. Parrot didn’t notice it, but the Harvard student was observing him now like a bug. Watching his chest rise and fall, a rhythm that strangely soothed Wifies. He found that strange. He would study things often, but this felt different. Yet, he pushed those thoughts aside.
The bird grudgingly waited for Wifies next sentence, silence stretched to far in between them.
Another 10 seconds passed before Parrot began waking himself up. “Ugh, Wifies. Keep on rambling.” He muttered, shifting his head that still sat in the crevice of his arms.
The Harvard student hummed happily and started talking again, his voice filling the other’s headphones. Then Wifies prattled ended once more.
“Actually Parrot, before you fall asleep can I tell you something?”
The birds wings fluttered a bit before he hummed an ‘of course’.
His gaze met the screen in front of his tired eyes as he watched Wifies momentarily walk off screen and commenced talking. The light made him grimace at first of course, though his eyes began to adjust. “Well, you know how I was gone for the first couple minutes of the call not too long ago, Right?” The Harvard student asked quietly, the ends of his purple bandanna peaking out of the side of the screen.
The bird adjusted his headphones and mumbled “mhm” just loud enough for the other to hear.
The thought of laying in bed sounded nice right now, but he rather listen to Wifies.
“Well I might have got you something for next time I come in town!” He smiled and came back on camera with something behind his back. The bird scoffed watching the Harvard student’s behavior but curiosity still lingered gratefully.
“Actually? Thank you so much bro! What did you get?”
Parrot sat up straight, his hands dashing against his keyboard and mouse. The birds foot tapped in excitement- he couldn’t lie that he was fond of gift giving. It was his love language after all.
The Harvard student shimmied his way back on screen, hands behind his back. “Drumroll please!”
Parrot giggled and started drumming on his desk quietly just so he could save face with his neighbors for once. The two were matching with their grins, cheeky and sweet, young with pure energy powered with the thought of surprise.
Finally after all of the suspense Wifies revealed a green looking album.
Parrots eyes widen and he felt like he could fall out of his own seat. “W-WIFIES!” He exclaimed! His body shot up- hands gripping the desk in front of him. It’s like all the tiredness was sucked out of his own body and thrown into the void. “WIFIES YOU GOT ME THE NEW LAUFEY ALBUM?”
The Harvard student chuckled and nodded his head up and down, “Yep! Yes I did! You talked about how much you wanted it so I got it!”
Joy made Parrot want to swing his bedroom door open and run through his hallways at 1:30 AM- waking the whole town because that’s how big this gift felt to him!
Parrot stood there in utter disbelief- the good kind of course. His wings flapped excitedly, completely disregarding the whole ‘saving face towards his neighbors’ act. “How did you even get this off the store? It sold out in under 3 hours!?”
Wifies cheesed slightly, looking away from the camera. “Well because I bought it off of Etsy… the price was easily tenfold.“
The avian second guessed himself for an iota of a second, his hand reaching out slightly as if Wifies was in the room with him. “Wifies bro, thats a lot. I appreciate this a LOT, but you shouldn’t have-“ the bird was cut off suddenly by you guessed it, Wifies.
“Oh but I had too.”
He brought the gorgeous album closer to the screen, which made the bird move in closer to see. He squinted his eyes slightly, slowly making out words on the bottom of the record.
…
“Oh my goodness Wifies- is this signed?” He managed to get out, eyes wide and vibrant as the sun. His body fell back into the comfort of the chair. “For me?” A scoff filled the room and he pointed a finger at his chest.
Wifies removed the album off the screen, placing the valuable on the top of his desk. Finally you could see how hard he was smiling, it reminded Parrot of the first time he met Wifies in real life. The same plotting smile, like his world was just made perfect.
“Yep man, Just for you. I know you were upset about not being able to buy the ‘A Matter Of Time’ album off the Laufey store.” He paused sheepishly. “I also know how much you cared about this release. So it was plain obvious to me that I needed to get the album. Plus it wasn’t too much, SFAWTDE is doing really well. I’m glad people enjoy the video as much as I do.” He was plainly playing with his fingers like he was nervous that Parrot wouldn’t like the gift and reject the thought as a whole.
“Wow. I love you, you know that right?” Wifies head whipped towards the screen. “Like you’re literally one of my best friends. I appreciate you and- THIS! So much.” Parrots voice was sweet as sugar, lingering on words to make the sentence feel more sentimental. His arms rose up towards the celling as another attempt of showing his appreciation.
The room filled up with gratitude for Wifies that Parrot couldn’t possibly get out in word form- yet he knew Wifies understood.
“I love you too, I’ll try and come in your city in about 1 month or so before summer break is over so I can get this to you.” His eyes flickered to the album once again. He wondered how Parrots’ second reaction to his gift would be and feel.
Parrot took a last gulp of his water, rubbing his eyes afterwards with a smile. A yawn exited his body once more, dosing him in the familiar feeling.
“Now tell me more about the show you were talking about.”
His arms crossed on the top of his desk, refusing the offer of the bed right behind him. The ave laid his head in slowly as he waited for Wifies voice to send him off once again.
“I’d be glad to.”
And the room was filled the with noisy comfort all over again- the only difference being the album and the new found hum in the twos body.
__________
Sunlight peaked through Parrots blinds, a bolt of light hitting his neck. The world shoved him awake as usual. Warmth shot through his body and his eyes shot open. “Hmgh.”
He groaned, his back hurt from this position- falling asleep in your gaming chair is also not for the weak.
Though one thing stuck out when he first woke up. The sound of Laufey voice filling his headphones. His head stuck up and his eyes fell onto his computer; the brightness lowered down conveniently. That made him remember the events of the night before, red slightly tinting his cheeks. Parrot chirped, embarrassed with the involuntarily action, though he still took into account he should do something in return.
Wifies was sharing his screen on discord, a Spotify playlist titled ‘Parrot boi’ shown on the pixels. A small smile grew on his face as he saw artist like Laufey, Beabadoobee, Frank Ocean, Clairo, Faye Webster, new jeans, and more. A playlist just for him!? The red spread even more across the birds face as he admired all of Wifies consideration towards him. Again, gift giving was what he loved.
Wifies face cam still stood, sunlight already filled the apartment bedroom due to them being in different time zones. The edge of Wifies blanket peaked in the corner of the camera for a moment before being laid out across the sheets. Sunlight hit his eyes- blinding the avian, he grumbled a curse from under his breath and opted to sit up straight like before. If you listened closely to Wifies and not the songs; you might have heard the Harvard student humming a tune.
Parrot didn’t notice the fact but, Wifies decided to list humming on his daily routines after that night. It was the first thing that came to him- and who was he to fight such a wholesome urge?
“Wifies?” His voice came out sheer due to just waking up.
The Harvard kids head swiftly peaked out past the right cut off of his camera, a smile dashed against his face. Parrot never thought he’d be happy to see someone on a screen before. Especially considering this wasn’t even one of his favorite shows he loved watching. Yet here he was, 7 am cheesin’ like a fool for his best friend. For all good reason of course.
The night earlier Wifies made his year by bestowing him that signed album. He’d probably mentioned to Wifies once that he wanted the album- not less a signed one, yet he remembered and delivered.
The aves wings spread wide as he began to let out a yawn, he stretched his arms, attempting to drain the tiredness from his chest.
Parrot always noticed how he tended to notice small things like that. Some days he couldn’t separate the behavior as creepy and caring. Though the avain chose to see that factor of Wifies as a good thing. Notably, when it came to memory- Wifies was always an expert, especially when talking and helping people out. Plus, that made Wifies good with people and crowds. Parrot wondered if in another life Wifies became a therapist- gosh he’d make bank, Wifies is definitely in the wrong industry.
“Good morning Parrot! How’d you sleep?” The Harvard students tone was curious as a cat.
He made his way towards the computer and sat down happily. Then he proceeded to turn off the music so he could hear Parrot talk.
“I slept good, thanks for everything you know. I’m can’t wait to see you.” Parrot gushed, scratching the back of his head.
Wifies hummed in delight, the edges of his mouth raising. “Anytime.”
