Work Text:
Y/n sighed as they drove past the amusement park in the port. It wasn’t loud, just one of those defeated little sighs that slipped out when she wasn’t paying attention. Chuuya was paying attention.
“What’s wrong, love?”
“Nothing…”
“That did not sound like nothing, darling. Tell me what’s on your mind.”
She hesitated. “I’d love to go to an amusement park again.”
“What’s stopping us? We can go tonight if you want.”
“No, not this one. One like Walibi back home — you pay an entrance fee and you get the whole day to enjoy the rides.”
“Well, we can plan a weekend trip to Disneyland if you want. It’s not that far. Why didn’t you say something sooner, love? We could’ve done this ages ago.”
“That’s not it, love…”
“Tell me.”
“I can’t do it.”
Chuuya frowned. “What do you mean you can’t do it?”
She let out a bitter laugh. “Love, look at me. We just came back from a mission and I can’t even drive myself home. It was an observation mission! Not even combat! What am I gonna do in an amusement park?”
“We pace it. Rest at regular intervals. Hell, I’ll even pay for the fast lane if that makes it easier for you.”
“That’s too expensive.”
Chuuya smirked. “Must I remind you that we both have millions of euros in our bank accounts?”
Y/n laughed. He had started recalculating everything to euros after she forgot the value of yen one too many times.
“Are you sure I can do it?”
“One hundred percent sure.”
And the way he said it — steady, confident, without a single doubt — made her chest loosen just a little.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you sure you have everything? Meds? Water? Wallet? Phone? Suitcase?”
“Yes, mom. I have everything. Don’t worry.”
“It’s so nice that your friend asked you to come with them to the amusement park for the weekend. Just don’t force yourself!”
“I won’t, mom. Now I have to go or I’ll be late.”
“Bye, mieke!”
“BRING ME A SOUVENIR WILL YA?!”
Y/n blinked. “Did she literally just wake up to yell that I have to buy her gifts?”
“What would you expect? She’s your sister.”
“And your daughter.”
She stepped outside. Chuuya was waiting at the main road.
“Finally. I thought you changed your mind…”
Y/n kissed him. “Never. Sis started demanding souvenirs and I couldn’t escape.”
Chuuya laughed. “Sounds exactly like your sister. Now, let’s go have a fun weekend together.”
He kissed her again before starting the car.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
They arrived at the hotel bright and early. Chuuya headed to the reception to check in. He handed over the medical files for the disability aid, then returned with the key.
“Alright. Let’s drop off our luggage and then go to the park. The purpose of this trip is that you don’t use your brain and only enjoy yourself, alright?”
“Why are you like this?”
“I’m spoiling my brilliant girlfriend.”
Y/n laughed. “Alright, mister ‘I am spoiling my girlfriend’. Just don’t forget to tell me how much I owe you.”
“Suuuureee.”
“Chuuya…”
“Come on, let’s go to our room. It should be in theme of Beauty and the Beast.”
Y/n froze. “Is that by accident or did you ask for those characters?”
“Hmmm… who knows…”
“You are impossible.”
“And I love you. And your favourite character is Beast, so why not?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After dropping everything off, they headed to the park.
“I never knew you were so into Disney…”
“I’m not. I just have a few characters I love. I grew up with these movies.”
“So what other movies do you love?”
“Mulan.”
“Mulan?”
“Yup. She’s a strong character, and she needs no man. As it should be.”
Chuuya laughed. “Sounds exactly like you. What else?”
“Marvel. I’ve been a fan since before I moved here.”
“Any specific characters?”
“Hmmm… Loki, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Natasha.”
Chuuya smirked. “I’m starting to see a pattern. A strong independent woman and three brilliant minds.”
Y/n blushed. “Yeah, I used to say I wanted to become a scientist like Bruce Banner…”
“But you ended up becoming an engineer, like Stark.”
“Exactly! That, and I’m also rich. That was the second part I wanted.”
She laughed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
They continued walking until Y/n spotted a rollercoaster she wanted to try. No loopings, not too fast. Ideal.
They rode it, thanking the gods for a short line.
After that, Chuuya found one with multiple loopings. He tugged her hand. She froze.
“Y/n?”
“You can go. I’ll sit here in the sun.”
“You’re not hurt, are you?”
“No, no, not that. I, uh…” She looked at her shoes. “I’m terrified of loopings and rollercoasters that go too fast.”
Chuuya blinked. “You? A terrifying executive who can kill without a second thought? You’re afraid of rollercoasters?”
“Not ALL of them. Just the ones where you’re upside down or too fast. I like the family rollercoasters. Now go. You’re embarrassing me.”
He kissed her temple and headed to the line, laughing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half an hour later, he returned to Y/n, who was reading in the sun.
“Ready, darling?”
She nodded. He helped her stand.
“Your back still alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Next one!”
They stumbled upon a shooting‑style attraction. Y/n’s face lit up.
“This is like my favourite one back home! There it’s called ‘Le Challenge de Toutankhamon.’”
“I’m guessing it’s themed around the curse of Tutankhamon? Is that why you forced me to watch all those documentaries?”
“No, that was because I genuinely think it’s interesting. Now come, it’s our turn!”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two hours later, Y/n was limping slightly, trying to hide her strong pain medication. Chuuya noticed.
“What about grabbing some food? My feet are starting to hurt and my stomach sounds like a thunderstorm.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
They found a restaurant and waited in line.
“I’m taking the cheesy pasta.”
“What a surprise.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“If there’s cheese, you always pick it.”
“Cheese is good. What are you getting?”
“The burger and fries.”
Y/n scrunched her nose. “Oh, how I miss good fries.”
“You can have some of mine…”
“I said good fries.”
“You and your quality control on fries.”
“It’s part of my heritage.”
“Yeah, yeah. Go on, heritage. Order your pasta.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once they sat down, Y/n sighed. “A chair, food, a cold drink, and my medication. Everything I want.”
“Why am I not on that list?” he teased.
“Because that which is obvious shouldn’t be mentioned.”
He blushed.
“Itadakimasu!”
They ate. Y/n stole the last fry from his plate.
He gasped. “How dare you steal my fries!”
“I’m making sure they weren’t poisoned.”
“After I finished eating?!”
“Haven’t been poisoned yet.”
He laughed. “You’re incredible.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the day went smoothly. They sat down for drinks regularly. Y/n insisted on standing in every line because “half the fun is waiting in line with people you love!”
When she saw an attraction she wanted but the line was too long, she sighed.
“I’d love to do this one…”
“But?”
“I won’t be able to do much more if I stand in line that long…”
Chuuya smiled. “I anticipated that. Come on.”
He walked to the disabled line.
“Chuu, what are you doing?”
“Because of your illness, you’re eligible for the disabled aid. They write down the hour you can come, and then you can sit or walk around. I knew you wouldn’t want to use it, so… surprise.”
Y/n froze. “What? Oh god, you’re not happy. Did I overstep—”
She hugged him tightly. “What did I do to deserve you?”
“Nothing. I’m just being me. Now let’s go.”
An hour later, they returned. It took another ten minutes before they could enter. Y/n paced slowly, and Chuuya explained to the staff that she needed to walk for her back. The man relaxed immediately.
Once seated, they enjoyed the ride. They thanked the staff afterward.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Late at night, they returned to their hotel room. Y/n immediately curled up on the bed, groaning.
“Are you alright???”
“It huuuuuurts.”
“Can I do something to help you?”
“Nooooooo. I just need to relax, but that’s the part that hurts.”
His expression softened. He’d learned not to suggest anything when she forced her back to relax.
He looked around the room and smirked. “Wanna watch Beauty and the Beast?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day started fine, but after breakfast, Chuuya noticed Y/n rubbing her lower back more and more. She tried to hide her medication.
“So when were you gonna tell me you’re in pain?”
“I wasn’t…”
“Y/n…”
“I just want us to have a normal day. Like a normal couple. You already did so much to make me feel normal. Don’t deny it! I know you pretended your feet hurt yesterday because you saw me take my meds. And you made sure the disability accommodations were ready. I just wanted to do something for you in return…”
“You don’t have to do anything. Seeing you happy is what makes me happy. That’s how it is and always will be.”
“You say that now…”
“And I’ll keep repeating it until you believe me.”
Y/n shook her head.
“Now cheer up. Take your meds. We’re using the disabled entrance. The whole point of me getting it was so you could use it.”
“I hate that you’re fine with all of this.”
“I’m not. But what am I gonna do about it? I’d take the pain from you if I could. Since I can’t, I’m making everything that can be easier… easier.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Around the third ride, they heard a kid ask:
“Hey dad, why are that boy and girl waiting at the exit?”
“That’s for people who are disabled, son.”
“But they’re normal…”
“Some people fake being sick to get privileges. Don’t ever become like them.”
Tears of humiliation formed in Y/n’s eyes.
Chuuya’s executive side snapped awake.
“Sir, perhaps you should teach your son not to judge a book by its cover. His question was acceptable. Your answer wasn’t.”
“Oh yeah? You two are the ones skipping the line.”
“That’s not how this system works. My girlfriend can’t stand for more than forty‑five minutes without pain, so we get a virtual place in the line.”
“Yeah right. She’s what? Twenty? Too young to have something like that.”
Chuuya snapped.
“Wanna trade with her? See how long it takes before you break. Now leave us alone and mind your own business.”
He turned to Y/n, who had silent tears running down her cheeks.
“Hey, love… everything’s alright. You’ll be fine…”
A small tug on his jacket interrupted him. The boy.
“Did my dad make her cry?”
Y/n swallowed. “No, little one. My body just hurts.”
“But I don’t see anything that could hurt.”
“That’s because it’s inside my body. You know how gravity pushes you down but you can still stand?”
“Yeah! And it’s less on the moon!”
Y/n laughed softly. “Exactly. Well, in your body there are cushions and elastics that help you stand against gravity. My cushions and elastics aren’t strong enough, and that hurts me when I stand too long.”
“That sounds annoying.”
“It is. But there are people who help me have a great time despite the pain — like you’re having with your dad. That’s why we stand here. It’s to tell the people who work here that I need a bit more help.”
“That’s nice. Everyone should have a great time in Disneyland! Thank you for explaining!”
“And thank you for asking. If you ever have a question like that, don’t hesitate to ask. As long as you stay polite like you just did, people will explain it. You’re a very kind boy.”
“Thank you, miss! I hope you feel better soon! But I have to go now — it’s my turn! Bye!”
The kid ran off.
Chuuya looked at Y/n, who was leaning heavily on him.
“How you manage to stay so kind despite the pain… I don’t get it. When I’m hurt after a mission, I yell at everyone.”
“After a while you realise yelling won’t fix anything.”
Chuuya scoffed. “I disagree. Dazai leaves me alone if I yell long enough. That fixes 150% of my problems.”
Y/n laughed — a clear, happy laugh.
“There she is. My happy lady.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the end of the day, Chuuya used Upon the Tainted Sorrow to help her walk. She moved like an old lady, but she was smiling.
By the time they reached the car, she was rambling happily about everything they did.
Chuuya started the car. She suddenly went quiet.
“Hey, where did your rambling go? I love hearing you talk about how much you enjoyed it.”
“I… Thank you, Chuuya. Despite the little hiccups, I felt normal for the first time since this pain started. You made me believe I’m not broken. And I appreciate it.”
“Of course. You deserve it. Wanna do it again someday?”
“Yeah. I do.”
“Then that’s settled. We’re doing amusement parks more often.”
They talked all the way home. Chuuya stopped in front of her house.
“Well, my lady, we’re back. Take a good rest and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Chuuya. Truly. For everything. You have no idea how much this meant to me.”
“I might have gotten an idea…” he laughed.
Y/n smiled. She loved seeing him laugh so carefree. Before she could think, she grabbed his face and kissed him passionately. He made a surprised noise, then melted into it.
He broke the kiss with a chuckle.
“As much as I love kissing you, we’re standing in front of your home. If you want to keep us a secret from them, maybe making out at your front door isn’t the best idea.”
Y/n looked disappointed, but in a good way.
“You’re right. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“See you tomorrow. Bright and early.”
He gave her a final kiss before she left the car. She watched him drive away, then entered the house.
“Mom, dad, I’m home!”
