Work Text:
Dove entered her room dejected with her tomato red face buried in her hands.
"I did it again..."
Dove proceeded to throw herself on her bed in defeat before looking to her pet dove.
"I just don't get it. Cadence and I are great friends, why have I been so nervous around her?
She stared silently at her dove, as if it was about to give her an answer.
Dove let out a sigh. "I just try to strike a small bit of conversation, but then I say something that makes everything awkward!"
Dove's dove let out a coo in response.
Dove responded despite obviously not knowing what her pet said. "I know! I'm acting like a teenager talking to their cr-"

"N-no, of c-course not" Dove refused to even entertain the idea. "Me and Cadence might be a little c-close, but we can still be friends, r-right?"
Dove's dove responded with nothing.
"What do you know anyway? You'd be pooping on a skeleton before it killed you if I didn't take you in!-sorry that was uncalled for."
It's not like it was the case, but Dove thought about the microscopic possibility of the minuscule change that she just might have the smallest crush on Cadence. Not like she did or anything.
"Well I guess Cadence wouldn't be a terrible g-girlfriend or anything. She's r-really nice, a good protector, and m-might be a little p-pret-NO! Do you hear yourself Dove? You and Cadence? W-what a silly thought."
"Then again-"
The more Dove talked about Cadence, the more she realized how much she liked about her. And the more she realized just how much she liked about her, the less silly that silly thought seemed to be.
Eventually, the realization hit her like a truck. That thought became a lot less silly now. Dove's cheeks had become flush with crimson.
"Oh dear..."
