You're all I have left

Summary:

After a failed attempt to reclaim his planets, Sun returned to the solar system, dejected. Mars, Jupiter, and the others drifted aimlessly into the endless darkness, while Sun, Earth, and Luna didn't know what to do next

Chapter Text

Sun wanted to return to his planets and bring them back home with him, but Simp and the Rogue Planets combined their gravitational forces to pull Sun towards them. Wise pointed out to Simp that this would cause Sun to pass out, and that they would fall into him. They wouldn't survive it, but Simp didn't listen to him and continued pulling. Sun didn't want to give up and focused solely on his planets

“VENUS!!! MERCURY!!! NEPTUNE!!! EVERYONE!!! COME BACK!!! I'M HERE!!! I CAME FOR YOU!!! I...” Sun shouted as loud as he could, but none of his planets could hear him. Instead, they continued their uncomfortable journey into the darkness. Sun began to cry. “They... they can't... hear me...”

“KEEP PULLING!!! WE ALMOST GOT HIM!!!” Simp exclaimed, feeling confident of victory

“I-I can't lose... all of you. I-I can't!!!” All of Sun's memories from the past came flooding back. All the time he had spent on his planets, even though many of them weren't pleasant memories. As Sun clung to these memories, he charged up his solar flares

Simp realized right then that Sun was up to something. “Ugh, what is he doing!?”

“He's... PROBABLY GONNA ATTACK!!!” PSO called

“EVERYBODY, GET READY!!!” Simp shouted

At that moment, Sun unleashed the solar flare. It was the most powerful solar flare the galaxy had ever seen. This was meant to serve as a signal. Sun did this in the hope that Jupiter and the others would see it. But... None of them saw it. They thought a nearby star had gone supernova, so they didn't pay it any attention

“YOUR MAJESTY, WE NEED TO LET GO! WE'LL GET DESTROYED IF WE KEEP THIS UP!” Wise pointed out

“JUST... A LITTLE BIT..!” Simp still didn't want to give up and kept going

Sun continued to fire his solar flare as he was pulled further back. Wise watched it with concern

“SIMP!!!” Wise begs

Now Simp realized, too, that it was slowly getting too dangerous, and she had no choice but to let go. “EVERYONE!!! STOP!!!”

All the rogue planets stopped exerting their gravitational pull. Sun also stopped firing his solar flare. Completely exhausted, he collapsed and burst into tears

“Please... Come back... I'm sorry... I don't want to be alone” Sun said, weeping, after he realized that none of his planets were coming to him. “I failed... I failed as a star.”

“Huh. Took you long enough, Sun.” a voice said

Sun turned toward the voice and saw that it was Sedna and the dwarf planets. Even though Sun is glad that at least the dwarf planets found their way back, he is still very upset that Mercury and the others didn't notice his solar flare

“Sun? Where are Jupiter and the others?” Pluto asked

Charon just looked at the star with a sad expression. “So... they're not coming back?” she asked. Sun just shook his head, and that says it all

“HEY!!! You think you can barge into our kingdom and trying to take my subjects?!” Simp shouted angrily

Sun turned to Simp. Despite the tears in his eyes, you could see the anger. “Is this how you treat your subjects!? Sending them into the empty darkness and isolating them!?” Sun called back

“Says the fool who treats his own planets like dirt!” Simp fired back

“With this reckless plan, you're no better leader!” Sun fired back again, his eyes turning red

For Wise, the situation was starting to get uncomfortable. “Simp, we...”

“Ugh... I know...” Simp said simply. “Fine… If you want your dwarf planets back, then have them, because they were a thorn in our side anyway. And go, if you must. We won’t stop you... But remember one thing. You’ll never see Jupiter or your other planets again, and from now until the end of time, you’re Public Enemy Number 1 in our kingdom! And if you ever show your face here again, we’ll show you no mercy!” Simp added

“Same goes to you if you enter my solar system again!! I also still have Earth, and I'll protect him with my life!!” Sun called back

“Fine!!”

“Fine!!”

With those words, Sun and the Rogues went their separate ways. Ogle went back to Simp and tried to explain the situation, but she just said that he had been manipulated. She also said that they would build their kingdom somewhere else. Sun, feeling downcast, made his way back to the solar system with the dwarf planets

“Sun...” said a voice behind him. Sun turned around and saw that it was Planet X. “I'm sorry... that it came to this.”

“X... It's not your fault. I alone am responsible for this loss. That is the punishment I must now carry with me for the rest of my life.” Sun simply said

“I think we've both lost something.” Planet X said

“X... Don't you want to... come back with us?” asked Sun, hoping that at least X would go with him

But X just shook his head. “I'm sorry. Even if I wanted to, I can't go back with you. I'm going to stay with the Rogues. I see their potential to do good, and I'm also going to make sure that no more families are torn apart in the future.”

Wise, who had been watching the whole thing, was surprised that X still wanted to stay with the Rogues after all that. But he smiled because he knew he could count on X. He could also make sure that X could visit the solar system from time to time without Simp noticing. Sun was disappointed by X's answer, but he understood. “I see... But take care of yourself, X. I hope... that we'll see each other again somehow.” he said with a sad smile

X smiled back. “I hope so, too... And Sun... Take care of the dwarf planets and... especially Earth and Luna.”

“I will.”

And with those words, Sun and Planet X said their goodbyes for now. X and Wise returned to the Rogues, while Sun and the dwarf planets set off

Meanwhile, it is quiet in the solar system. Earth, Luna and Ceres are the only ones left. Earth is freezing, because life on his surface is slowly but surely dying out unless Sun returns soon

“It's been a week since the Sun left. How are you holding up, Earth?” Luna asked, worriedly

“Well, the oceans have begun to freeze, the atmosphere is becoming dense, all plant life is slowly dying and... Ceres is staring at me, probably waiting until I get distracted to attack.” Earth replied as he looked toward the asteroid belt, where Ceres was staring at him and Luna with a big grin and a crazy laugh. “Well... I'm not doing so well right now.”

Luna can't stand seeing his planet and brother suffer like this anymore. “Ugh! We need the Sun now!”

“I know... I think we may have to accept that the Solar System is over, Luna...” said Earth, defeated

“Earth! You can't give up now!” Luna said

“I'm trying to be realistic. Everyone's gone! The Sun, the planets... After everything that's happened, there is no way, wha- huh?” Earth couldn't finish his sentence as the solar system began to shake. Shortly thereafter, Sun arrived with the dwarf planets at the speed of light. But as Sun passed through the asteroid belt, his gravity pulled some asteroids toward Earth. Drawing on years of experience playing Asteroid Dodgeball, Earth was able to easily dodge the asteroids

“Oh... I'm sorry, Earth. I didn't mean to bombard you with asteroids.” Sun said

Earth looked around and saw that only Sun had returned with the dwarf planets. He burst into tears when he realized the worst had happened

“Mars... Venus... Mercury... All of them... They're all gone and will never return.” Earth wept to himself

“Earth...” Luna said, hugging his brother to comfort him

Sun wanted to go to Earth and comfort him as well, but first he unfroze the entire solar system. And then he summoned Earth, Luna, and the dwarf planets to him

“Earth... Luna... I'm sorry... I did what I could... But Jupiter and the others didn't see my solar flare.” Sun said, with tears in his eyes

“So Mars and the others are gone?” asked Earth, weeping bitterly

Sun just looked down. “Yes... I'm so sorry.”

Earth just kept crying to himself. Luna continued to comfort his brother, and Sun couldn't do anything about it

“Sun... Earth, and I will now return to our orbit, and we will remain there.” said Luna, and he and Earth wanted to return to their orbit

Sun was about to let them go when he remembered what X had said

“𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒇 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅... 𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒖𝒏𝒂.”

As soon as Sun remembered, he called out to the two of them. “Earth... Luna... Wait!”

Earth and Luna stopped and turned back toward Sun. “You don't have to stay in your orbit.”

Earth and Luna are confused. “What's the point, Sun? If there aren't any planets left here?” asked Earth

"I still have you and Luna, Earth. And of course, the dwarf planets, too. We may have lost Jupiter and the others, but I don't want to make the same mistake with you. You need me now more than ever, and from now on, I'll be by your side. Come to me anytime you need anything from me. I failed, but I'll do my best to make it up to you. I’m so sorry. I won’t let you down again.” Sun replied, and then began to cry again

“Sun...” said Luna, who now also had tears in his eyes

“Sun, I... I don't know what—” Earth was about to say, but Sun pulled him and Luna toward him and hugged them both. He had lowered the temperature on his surface to avoid causing either of them any harm, especially the life on Earth’s surface

“It's okay... I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere.” Sun said

Sun, Earth, and Luna shared an emotional group... no, a family hug, while the dwarf planets looked on. Pluto and Charon were moved to tears, while Sedna and the others just managed a small smile. After a while, Sun, Earth, and Luna broke apart from their embrace. Sun looked over at the dwarf planets

“Pluto... Charon... Sedna... All of you. From now on, you dwarf planets will live in the inner solar system.” Sun said

Pluto was shocked. “What, really!?”

“But, Sun! We—” Charon began to say, but Sun cut her off

“You've been cut off from the rest of the solar system for far too long, and you're all alone in the Kuiper Belt. Here in the inner solar system, you'll have more company now that it's just me, Earth, Luna, and you.”

“Well... Since we're the only ones left, we'll have to stand together, after all.” said Haumea

“That's fine with me.” said Eris

“Now more of you can join our game Dungeons and Dwarf Planets!” said Makemake

Sedna turned to Gonggong and Quasor, and they both just nodded. Sedna turned back to Sun. “We don’t mind, but it might still be a good idea for one or two of us to keep watch in the Kuiper Belt from time to time, because you never know if the rogue planets might attack us again.”

Sun nodded. But he noticed something in the asteroid belt and used his gravity to pull it toward him. It was Ceres

“Oh, right... We can't forget him either.” said Sun

“But, Sun. Ceres—” Luna began to say, but Sun cut him off

“The dwarf planets and I will make sure Ceres doesn't do anything stupid. Can I count on you, Pluto?” Sun asked

Pluto felt a brief pang of nervousness as he remembered the last time Ceres had lost his temper like that, but as long as nearly all the dwarf planets were here and Sun himself was keeping an eye on things, it was a lot safer. “You can, Sun.” he replied

“Okay.” said Sun, looking at Earth and Luna. “So, Earth and Luna? Should the three of us do something together? Maybe play Solarcards?”

Earth and Luna looked at each other. Earth saw Luna staring at him like he was begging him to say yes. “I don’t mind. Are you in, Luna?”

“What do you think, Earth?” Luna said with a smirk

Earth, Luna, and Sun then unpacked their decks and played Solarcards together. Meanwhile, Pluto and the dwarf planets played Dungeons and Dwarf Planets. Even though Earth misses his friends deeply, at least he still has Luna, Sun, and the dwarf planets

Meanwhile, Mars, Jupiter, and the rest continued to wander aimlessly in the darkness. Their eyes and those of the moons have now turned completely black. They have now truly become rogue planets and rogue moons. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune still have their moons and are therefore not alone, while Mercury and Venus are all by themselves

While Phobos and Deimos followed their planet and father everywhere he went, Mars was completely lost in his thoughts. All he could think about was his best friend, Earth. He is now alone in the solar system. Luna is with him, but he apparently still thinks that Sun is an absolute tyrant, though he doesn’t know that Sun has now become a completely different star. Mars shed a tear

“I miss you, Earth. I wish I had stayed with you.” Mars simply said

Jupiter was also lost in his own thoughts. He was thinking about the time when he first opened his eyes and Sun welcomed him with open arms. Back then, he had been afraid of the dark, and Sun had offered him light and protection. But then things just went downhill. Sun became stricter, turned into a tyrant, and treated his planets like dirt. He couldn't help but wonder where those days had gone. Jupiter's eyes welled up with tears

“I had tried to be strong... But in the end, I'm still afraid of the dark.” said Jupiter, as he gazed into the darkness. “I miss the way that you once were, Sun. Why can’t things be the way they used to be?” he just asked to himself

Ganymede, Europa, and the other moons could only look sadly at their planet. They, too, miss the solar system, but there’s nothing they can do about it. They could find their own way back, but that would leave Jupiter completely alone, and they couldn’t do that. Callisto, on the other hand, could think of nothing but Triton, her secret crush. She just hoped that one day she would see him again

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed it 😊💙

Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Jupiter and the other planets hadn't seen Sun's solar flare? Well, here's my take on how it would have turned out

I actually wanted to try my hand at a slightly longer story again, but I was lacking either the energy, the motivation, or just that little something extra to make it happen. So instead, here's something shorter again

But hey, just like with birthday or Christmas gifts: Better something small than nothing at all

Thank you and see you next time! 💙💙💙
