Work Text:

It was a nice spring day in New York, perfect for a picnic or perhaps a game of baseball, yet Marvin, Whizzer, and Jason were all inside their apartment. Marvin and Whizzer were playing their 3rd game of chess that day, and Jason was in his room, leaning halfway off his bed playing on the Game Boy that Whizzer had bought him the previous day, in an attempt to become closer with the kid who almost seemed to spite his very existence.

“Andddd checkmate!” Marvin jeered, slamming the Queen piece down on the chessboard, causing a few pieces to topple down.

“Oh come on!” Whizzer folded his arms in an angry pout, "That's the third time in a row! You could've let me win at least this one!”

Marvin laughed, and got up from his chair sitting perpendicular to Whizzer and sauntered the few steps to sit next to him on the couch, promptly placing an arm around his shoulder as he sat down and tilted his head so he could be looking up at Whizzer.

“But that would mean that I wouldn't win” Marvin made a sad, puppy dog face, causing Whizzer to chuckle, quickly giving up his sad and angry facade, and plant a small kiss on the top of Marvin’s head.

“I was thinking. Maybe we could take Jason to the park before it gets dark! Me and you could have a bit of a picnic date and Jason can run around the baseball field!” Whizzer thought aloud, thinking of another option, “Or we could play baseball with him and he could get some practice in. Not to be cruel or anything but he really needs practice.”

Marvin sat up smiling like a little kid.

“That… Sounds like a splendid idea!”

“Right! Do you suppose we should head out now? It's going to be getting near dark by the time we get to the good park and not the one with trash littered everywhere.”

Marvin nodded happily, “I’ll go tell Jason to get ready.”

Marvin retracted his arm from around Whizzer’s shoulder and stood up, practically skipping to Jason's room.

“Jason!~” Marvin yelled, knocking on the kid’s door, “Wanna head to the park with me and Whizzer? We can play baseball or you can just run around, either works.”

The faint sound of a Game Boy turning off could be heard from the room alongside some scrambling that slowly got louder before the door swung open, revealing Jason.

“Yes please!” Jason looked thrilled. He loved going to the park with his two fathers even if they were just being lovey-dovey the whole time.

“Alright! Get your shoes on and we’ll head out!” Marvin threw an arm in the air in a punching motion.

~~~
The trio arrived at the park, walking their usual path to get to the big maple tree with a large shaded area. It was located directly next to a baseball diamond which meant the two fathers could watch their kid run around without the worry of someone scooping him up and taking him away.
Jason was rambling on and on to Jason and Whizzer about how much fun he’s been having in baseball alongside rambling on about his new gameboy, to which Whizzer couldn't help but feel happy inside at how excited Jason seemed about it.
“We’re here!” Marvin cheered, “Jason, kiddo, me and Whizzer are going to set up the picnic over here, you can feel free to run about the baseball diamond!”
Jason nodded to which he promptly ran off towards the diamond, leaving Whizzer and Marvin alone with each other’s company.
The two slowly began to set up the picnic. First the red and white checkered blanket, then the plates and food, and finally, then the cups and drinks. They made sure to bring some toys and extra snacks along for Jason as well.
Once they had finished setting up and sat down, Marvin cracked open a bottle of wine for Whizzer. As much as Marvin wanted to get absolutely wasted with Whizzer right now, it was daytime and they would need a DD to get Jason back home safely.
“So~ What are we planning on doing here~” Whizzer crawled the two feet distance between them towards Marvin, trying to mess with him.
To Whizzer’s disappointment, the subject of his teasing simply put a hand to his face and gently pushed him away.
“At most we can hold hands and give quick and simple kisses. For Christ’s sake Whizzer we’re in public.” Marvin groaned.
“Ah. yes right. Forgot about the whole, ‘gay people are demons’ propaganda here in public.” Whizzer sighed, “I just seem to always forget about that when im with you~”
Whizzer reached his hand out, slowly and gently caressing Marvin’s chin before Marvin swatted him away.
“Whizzer.” Marvin growled through his teeth.
“Fine, fine, fine. I'm sorry dear.”  Whizzer sighed.
Whizzer and Marvin sat on the picnic blanket holding hands as they watched Jason run around by himself on the baseball diamond. In Whizzer’s free hand, he held a glass of wine, and was casually sipping at it.
“Say… Wanna go play with Jason?” Marvin suggested, nudging whizzer’s shoulder
“Ha! I’m already deep into 2 glasses of wine. I think I’d fall over within a second Marv’.” Whizzer responded with a chuckle.
Marvin shrugged, “Suit yourself”, and did an awkward half-run over to Jason.
Whizzer watched alone as Marvin and Jason chased each other around. He couldn't fully make out what they were arguing about but he assumed it was Marvin trying to convince Jason to practice baseball with him.
Eugh. It's not even 3 pm on a Tuesday and I'm already multiple glasses deep of wine. I really need to cut back on this stuff. Whizzer daydreamed, I wonder if I can find some juice that tastes as-
His day dreaming was cut off by Marvin throwing a baseball in his general direction.
“Sorry Whiz!!” Marvin yelled.
“Sorry Whizzer!” Jason yelled.
Simultaneously. Jason really was Marvin’s son.
Jason sprinted over to Whizzer to retrieve the ball, “C’mon Whizzer! Come play with me and Dad!”
“Kiddo I told your father this already but I am currently 2 glasses deep into wine and I can feel myself falling. If I tried playing I'd wipe out within seconds.” Whizzer chuckled, despite making no jokes at all.
A look of disappointment spread across the kid’s face.
“Ok fine…” Jason started to trudge back to the diamond before being called from behind.
“Jason!! I'll play next time! I promise!” Whizzer yelled.
A look of happiness spread across the kid’s face before running off to the field.
Whizzer fell backwards, staring at the tree's leaves. They were absolutely stunning. Very big and pretty and… calming. Before whizzer knew it, he was asleep on the picnic blanket.
As Whizzer awoke, he found himself smiling and grasping onto something as well as something moving on his… head?
“Oh good afternoon dear! Sleep well I see?” Marvin removed his hand from whizzers head, which he was just playing with.
Whizzer drearily sat up and yawned. He didn't even realize he had fallen asleep and was surprised to be woken up.
“Yeah I did thanks Marvin.” Whizzer would say before gently grabbing Marvin’s hand and kissing it.
Jason made a disgusted face, “Ewwww!!!” he’d snicker.
Whizzer hadn't even noticed that Jason was there. He just assumed that he was still playing on the field.
Marvin grabbed 3 sandwiches from the picnic basket and handed them out among the 3 of them.
And they all lived happily ever after yayyyy.
