Work Text:
It was a long day at the church, handling sermons to listening to confessions and the occasional baptism from time to time as a child was born into this world. Ever since that day where Itsuki's mentor passed away, birthdays were just a oversight to his duties towards his faith. The memories are nothing but a blur, just a representation of the passage of time.
Itsuki's home is not that far from the church, just a walks away. Ever since Luka came into his life, things started to look a bit different. His antics of looking through different thrift stores and flea markets had brought a bit of life in some way, whether that's a small little decoration on the table or a cute dress he got for Itsuki's very monotone wardrobe. He would just come home, relax and unwind and prepare for another day. Just a normal chill evening. Unfortunately for Itsuki, Luka has plans.
Steam fills the room as a bunch of colorful lights, with Luka blasting music on loud speakers.
"Itsuki! Happy birthday!" Luka greeted him as he scrambled around before rushing to hug him.
Itsuki stood there not knowing what to do as Luka graciously hugs him.
"Y-you did this all for me?" He tears up, no one has treated him well on his birthday before.
"My dearest priest, this was such a effort to pull off I had to ask some of the regulars that attend your sermons when your birthday is so I rushed and set this all up for you, even a cake!"
A cake stood at the dining table with sloppy handwriting in icing said "Happy Birthday".
"I admit it doesn't look great, but I tried my best.. honestly I wasn't sure if you like it." Luka looks at Itsuki.
Itsuki felt loved in a way, it brought back to the days where his mentor would celebrate every milestone, from his first baptism to celebrating his birthday as his mentor would give him a day off from his studies.
They both sat down as Luka prepared to light the candles up as he sang happy birthday to Itsuki.
"Well now, my dearest priest it is customary for you humans to make a wish right?" Luka asked him.
Itsuki was still unsure what his actual wish is but in the heat of the moment, he blew out the candles and drags Luka into a kiss.
It feels like a sin for him as a priest to kiss a man, but a birthday comes only once a year so who not sin for self indulgence?
"Does this count as answer for your question Luka? Itsuki asked him as he cuts a slice of cake and puts it on a plate.
"Hahahahaha, my dearest priest you never cease to entertain me after all." Luka laughs.
They both sat at the table, sharing that slice of cake. Maybe just maybe, to Itsuki… Birthdays can be memorable after all.
