Work Text:
The day was peaceful, the sun was shining, the birds were doing their evening screaming, and all was right on this rotting planet! nothing could possibly ruin this beautiful, perfect day—
"WHY DOES PROFESSOR ROS HATE ME?!"
Araz fixed their gaze upon Vesper with a deadpan look, raising one of their eyebrows as if to say ‘Really? You don't know why?’
“That was their fault! They shouldn't have scared me!”
“So, they scared you, and your first response was to,” They pause, reaching into their bag to grab a stack of papers, flipping through them until they find the page they need.“stab them in the eye with…with a pencil?”
“In my defense—” Vesper starts, only to get cut off by an elbow hitting his ribs causing him to start coughing like a wet cat.
“Vesper, you have no defense here.”
“Not you too Peregrine! I thought you would always defend me!”
Peregrine rolls her eyes, very maturely sticking out his tongue at them.
Vesper pauses, slowly turning to look at Peregrine.
Araz looks between Peregrine and Vesper and takes a step back. They know when Vesper is going to try and fight Pere, and it usually ends with him failing or an ungodly amount of property damage that usually make the elders pray to the time gods for them to calm the fuck down. Every. Single. Time.
Peregrine watches Vesper lunge at her, right before he hits them, she steps to the side, which in turn now makes the new thing he's going to hit the fucking STAIRS.
Both Araz and Peregrine lunge forward to grab him before he takes a tumble down the horrible, horrible stairs. In their haste, however, they instead collide and all go tumbling down the stairs like some kind of fucked up snowball.
“Is—is everyone still alive?”
“Yeah—I think so.”
“Um, did Ves pass out?”
“....it seems like it.”
Araz and Peregrine grunt at the weight of the person suddenly standing on top of them, both of them turning to look and seeing the apparently not passed out Vesper standing on them and yelling “I LIVED BITCHES!!” before suddenly pausing and stepping off of them.
“We're going to have to go to the nurse now, don't we?”
“Yup. we do Vesp.” Araz responds, helping Peregrine up.
“Aw. Fucking Baloney.”

Which is how they find themselves in the nurses office twenty minutes later, arguing over the morality of cannibalism.
Araz smiles to themself.
All of them might have problems, but as long as they have each other, they might just be fine.
(They knew there was no chance of that. But it was nice to hope.)
