Work Text:
Sprout was cleaning up after a long day of helping Cosmo teach Boxten how to cook. The place was a mess and he didn't want to get another lecture from Tisha.
He was scrubbing the floor humming some song he heard at the circus troupe’s act a couple days ago, when suddenly Looey walked in and started scatting the same tune.
“Do, do, do, do, do, do, do! Ba, ba do, do, do! Wow, you're right on key!” Looey exclaimed, “not a lot of people can be so good.”
“Oh… oh! Thanks..!” Sprout took a while to register that Looey was right there. He looked into a cabinet where the cleaning supply and sugar was kept, the sugar was gone so he just grabbed the cleaning supplies and put it into the counter. Then he realized Looey was seeing him scrubbing the floor and probably looking stupid so he got up and dusted himself off. He was also wearing the stupid pink apron Dandy gave him because it was ‘his week to shine. Sprout made a face inwardly. “Darn, we're outta sugar… anyways, what brings your fine self here this evening- I mean..- What brings you here this fine evening?”
“Ah yes, that's why I came actually… You may have noticed your sugar supply draining consistently every day for the past few, hmm… months?” Looey paused and looked at the ground, “I came to apologize on behalf of Yatta since she's the one who's been sneaking into the kitchen to eat your sugar…” Looey looked up at Sprout with a guilty expression even though he did nothing wrong.
Sprout sighed, “Tell her it's fine but it's really unhealthy, everyday for months?”
“Yep.”
“Oof, she should go see Arthur about that…”
Looey nodded, then looked around the kitchen, “uhm, do you need any help with anything?”
Sprout thought for what felt like a while, but in reality was only about five seconds, he didn't want Looey to have to help him but Cosmo always tells him to accept help from others. “Hmm… yeah, I guess I could use some help with uhm, sweeping?”
Looey got the broom and swept all the mess from the floor and then Sprout scrubbed it and then Sprout did dishes while Looey drank an extra juice box from the fridge.
It was eventually done and Looey was about to leave till he said, “hehe, by the way, that apron looks cute on you.” Looey smiled a bit and Sprout began to turn more red than he already was, it wasn't very noticeable since he was already always red though.
“Oh haha, you're funny Looey!..” Sprout said, thinking this was some mean joke Looey was trying on him. Since he was wearing the dumbest outfit he'd ever worn.
“No, no, I'm being serious! I think the pink looks great on you.” Looey said the last part quieter than the rest, almost afraid but not quite.
“Oh! Well then thank you!” Sprout said quickly, almost as if he didn't want to mess anything up, “goodnight!” Sprout waved as Looey walked away.
“Goodnight Sprout!” Looey adjusted his overalls on his way to the elevator, he got in the elevator and it closed. Sprout sighed out of relief. He did not want to say something that would reveal just how much he cared about that clown's opinion.
Sprout didn't sleep much that night, too many dreams about a certain balloon performer.
For the next few weeks, the only apron Sprout would wear would be the dumb pink one he suddenly loved overnight. Cosmo and some of the mains found it a bit suspicious and word spread to only the mains that Looey told him the apron looked cute and that's why Sprout wears it so much. They all tease him now, but Sprout got used to it and doesn't mind much anymore, just giggles at the thought of Looey thinking he looked cute in something.
