Work Text:
The Kamuatari district is the south ward for one of the Hell Guards academies across the ground. It is one of the most popular districts for recruiting potential Hell Guards; its most powerful Guards came from the south ward. The Nijikus.
******* Nijiku.
****** Nijiku.
Kyouka Nijiku.
Goka Nijiku.
And an upcoming Golden Throne Hell Guard, Zanka Nijiku.
The Nijikus ran the south ward district for decades, every person recruited at their academy was deemed for success. Despite Goka and Kyouka not taking the throne themselves, Zanka Nijiku was deemed to succeed to the Golden Throne. His grades, fighting skills, doing everything 'flawlessly,' and always staying on top of the board were proof of that.
Classmates have tried learning Zankas's ‘secrets’ to reaching the top, asking how he did certain moves, how he got good grades, and how he can do everything with no problem. Teachers have told him he was a natural at anything they threw at him and that they were impressed, praising him any chance they got.
Did he deserve it..?
Absolutely not.
He was such shit, picking up a stupid ass stick because he tried to ‘play the system.’ That certainly backfired on him; the system somehow played his ass, and now he was sitting in his room with said stick.
Zanka was currently taking care of it, he had found some polshing oils that his parents used for the training wood that they had in the training area. It’s not like he cared for the stick that much, it just needed a little shaping is all.
It had been about a week since Zanka had purposefully put himself in a well. Being down there made him feel useless, holding onto the stick like a lost child clinging to it’s toy like it was their only friend.
His lips quivered at the word ‘useless.’ He tightened his grip around the stick, making it crackle. This stick was not useless, maybe he was, but not this. It had something lovely about it. He didn't know exactly what it was, but after getting out of that hole, he’d seen the stick in a different way.
He suddenly heard heavy footsteps outside his door.
That made him jump, making him lose his train of thought. He quickly dropped and kicked the stick away from his side, sliding into an area where you couldn’t see it. He started adjusting his appearance quickly to look presentable to the best of his abilities, just to make it look like he didn’t get ran over and cried about the pain after he got home instead of looking for a doctor immediately.
“Zanka.”
Zanka took a deep breath, turning his head around slowly. He knew that voice and given her nature he expected the worst to come.
He looked at the person behind him.
There stood his older sister, Kyouka, arms crossed and looking at him with a blank expression on her face, but Zanka knew she wasn't pleased to see him, let alone speak to him.
It wasn’t very noticeable to most people, but with Zanka, he knew her well enough—despite the fact she was his sister—to know that blank face she was making wasn’t neutral whatsoever. No matter how hard she tried to hide it from others.
“Yah?” He squeaked out. Yikes..
“Goka says he was informed you haven't been showing up to the academy. Want to tell me what that’s about?” She stood closer, hovering over him like she was observing some pet on the floor.
Zanka froze, he knew he was gonna get asked this eventually. After he was stuck in that well for 3 days—and only got out because of a man’s speech, not even out of his own will—he decided not to go back, mainly because of embarrassment but also because of what that guy had told him.
“Can’t you just be an average Joe that's better than a genius?”
Even though he himself didn’t believe it, he wanted to try. To try and at least prove he’s better than a genius. To prove to his classmates the stick was actually a good weapon, that it was placed there for a reason, maybe to prove he was still worthy of the NIjiku name. But then again, he wanted to go on his own. He couldn't bear looking at the competition awaiting him if he went back. He knew it’d bring him down even more after getting out of that well, the disappointed look on everyone's faces as he would walk down the halls with his—not so—stupid stick.
Just the thought of getting those mean and ugly disappointed looks from his classmates—especially his old acquaintances and teachers—made him shiver. The amount of praise he received from them made those looks look even worse than they were in person, he didn’t want those looks. But he knew he was gonna get them regardless.
He gripped his hand shakily. How was he supposed to tell his sister—the upcomming commander of the Hell Guard—that he basically dropped out of school like some all-F ’student? She’s trained him practically since birth for him to join the Hell Guard like the rest of his family.
Zanka knew she meant well, to some degree.
For some reason, it seemed wrong to even go back to the Hell Guard at this point. He couldn’t even tell himself why. Maybe it was because anytime he thought about it, he would feel the stick hum lightly. it was interesting to say the least but he always pushed past that.
Zanka tried to speak, but only a huff of air came out from his mouth. He was shaking; he tried his best to hide it, but she probably caught on already.
“I-”
“Zanka. Have you been skipping school?” Kyouka interruptedly asked. The look in her eyes already told him he was cooked like hell.
Maybe he could just lie? He’d seen his classmates constantly do it to their parents, teachers, and friends.
But, unfortunately for Zanka, he was an extremely bad liar. He’d get all sweaty and fidgety whenever he lied—which was a rare case for him to even need to do—But he could REALLY use it right now.
He stared right into her eyes, mouth open, but nothing could come out. Like, no matter what he said, she’d get mad regardless. He couldn’t lie, not like he wanted to. Sure, he was an average, mediocre, plain guy. But he’d never bring himself to lie, especially to his sister.
Could he even tell the truth about what he wanted to do? How would he even say it?
‘Oh, sorry, my teacher put out a bunch of weapons for our training, and I picked a stick that wasn’t even supposed to be there, got too embarrassed, hid in a well for 3 days until some guy came by and told me I could do great things with said stick, and now I see that the stick was actually pretty cool and I now want to drop out of the academy and do things my own way.’ Seemed too complicated to understand—in his words—but seemed about right. He just took some strangers’ advice and decided that’s what he wanted to do. Oh the great sky, he was stupid.
Taking advice from someone who could’ve probably kidnapped or done something way worse to him when he came out of that well, was extremly stupid. If he told this to Kyouka, she’d definitely get mad at him WAY more than she already was.
A big sigh came out of Kyouka, snapping Zanka out of his thoughts. “I don’t care for your excuses, Zanka, just get back to what you were made to do.”
She turned and walked away, leaving Zanka by himself.
Zanka was left frozen. “Huh..?”
What...? He doesn't remember that. She’d never- No. Not to his face..
“What you were made to do.”
Zanka opened his eyes but quickly shut them as they slowly started to burn; everything was too bright right now. His head was pounding, his abdomen was shouting to his brain that it was in pain. Causing a low groan to escape his mouth.
He opened his eyes slightly, the bright light blinding him once more. catching a glimpse of a ceiling that was all too familiar, the Cleaner HQs’ infirmary ceiling.
That’s weird; he could've sworn he was at the doll fest.
The doll fest..
Memories of the doll fest flooded his mind. Everything was a little blurry, but he could make out most of what happened. He and Team Akuta went there to find some ‘White Crow.’ Rudo kept muttering that under his breath the whole time about it, Enjin and Riyo wanted to get Zanka a mask, which he obviously declined until he saw the Hell Guard..
Then they went to see Too Silly or whatever her name was. Enjin and Riyo were pretty excited about seeing her. Rudo was confused on who she was, kept asking questions about her and if she’s related to a White Crow.
Then the raffle started.
Rudo ended up getting called onto stage and then came back wearing an oversized bra, gross.
Turns out their news reporter had been a bad guy trying to become someone higher than everyone else.
Mymo had sent his sidekick to fight them while one stayed back in some type of circle force-field, which the fight, he doesn’t remember much of.
What he fully remembered was some weird-looking thing without a mouth. He remembers hearing gunshots, but the thing didn’t even go towards the active threat. It just went to him.
As soon as Zanka blinked, a sharp pain went through his stomach. Right before he could fall, he attacked that thing with Assistaff, leaving a big scar on its face.
Assistaff..
ASSISTAFF!
Zanka quickly shot his eyes open, looking around the room desperately to find his jinki. He turned to his sides to find that she was set up against the wall beside the bed he was assigned to. Zanka had let out a relieved breath he didn’t know he was holding.
He reached over and grabbed Lovely, his stomach aching as he reached. He rubbed his fingers against the smooth wood carefully, checking for anything that could’ve been a sign she was hurt. Luckily he found no cracks or any damage, good.
Zanka took a deep breath, everything was fine, somewhat. His jinki was ok, he was at HQ, he was recovering from his injury. His exhale was a bit shaky, and his grip on Lovely tightned every so slightly.
“Glad you’re okay Lovely..” he whispered as he rubbed his thumb against the smooth wood.
The staff hummed lightly against his fingers, telling him she was glad he was ok too.
Zanka chuckled, what would he do without her.
He did it again, he got injured and had to have someone pick up after him. Like what Riyo did in the trash beast. Picking him up and dragging him because of how average, weak, and more idiotic he was compared to Jabber. It sickened him.
Now he needed to train harder, get back on top. Prove he's worth something more than a mediocre backup whenever Rudo or someone with more natural talent than him wasn’t avaliable. Not that Rudo was a bad Cleaner, he just hated seeing him be picked first on a job that was clearly better suited for himself.
He’d be lying if he said he didn’t have some type of jealousy towards Rudo. As soon as he came to the Ground he got his anima power, got accepted into the Cleaners, and was a natural at anything he was put up against. Zanka was just there to lend a hand from time to time.
In recent events, Rudo had two broken arms and still fought. Zanka was once again, deadweight for the team.
Zanka smacked his hand on his head.
Dude, what was he doing? Instead of moping he could be training! He needed to get up right now, lock in, and train!
He’ll just ask Enjin or someone else when he gets the chance, everything after the hole that was punched through his stomach was a blur to him. Whoever he saw first, he’d ask, doesn’t matter to him.
Zanka was snapped out his thoughts when he hears the door in the front of the room open, followed with footsteps coming his way.
“Oh! You’re awake! Thank goodness..”
A familiar voice said from what seemed to be his right side, it was soft and filled with slight concern and relief, leaning more into relief.
He looked up from his lap, only to be met with the Cleaner's healer, Eishia, looking at him with a slight smile.
“Hi, Zanka..” She said, putting her hands to her chest.
Zanka’s lips were brought to a smile, her presence comforted him in a way, given his prior thoughts.“Hi, Eisha—”
“ZANKA, GOOD MORNING TO YOU, MAN!” August—cutting Zanka off— jumped from the left side of his bed, startling both Zanka and Eishia, though Zankas mind was elsewhere. ‘When the hell did he get here?’
“August, please...he just woke up..” Eishia said softly, grabbing onto her elder brother’s shoulder. “It’s early, and the others are still asleep...” Her lips quivered slightly as her finger was put up to her mouth, indicating that August needed to zip it.
“AW COME ON, DON’T BE LIKE THAT! HE NEEDS TO GET HIS BLOOD FLOWING WITH ENERGY!” August exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air.
Eishia sighed, “I appreciate you looking after Zanka, but he needs bed rest August…”
“WELL HE NEEDS TO GET BETTER FAST, CAUSE I JUST FINISHED ROUND TWO OUTFITS FOR THE CLEANERS!!”
Before Zanka could even process Augusts’ yelling about the new Cleaner outfits, the door to the infirmary suddenly flings open with a harsh ‘BANG’. A very sweaty Enjin stands with his hand on the door. Everyone fell silent as they watched Enjin catch his breath.
Enjin runs a hand through his hair, “WHEW! Man! I really got to lay of the cigs more..” he said with slight pants, wiping sweat off of his forehead. “So..” he coughed, “I heard my boy Zanka was awake! How you feelin’ man?” Enjin clasped his hands together, looking at Zanka with a soft smile.
Eishia stood confused, “Uh..how’d you hear that he was awake..? He just woke up..?”
"Heard August yelling.”
"Oh..”
Zanka, on the other hand, was a bit taken aback, I mean Enjin, THE Enjin looking out for him? Asking him if he was ok?
He felt the slight blush on his face appear as he opened his mouth to say something, “‘M fine..” Zanka quickly looked away to hide the blush that was getting more red on his face.
Enjin snorted, “Ay! That’s good!” he put his hands in the air, Eishia raised her hand slightly with him. Which caught both of the blonde’s attention.
“He should be fine as long as he…gets proper bed rest..!” Eishia got out, way more nervous than she intended. Zanka let himself frown, he wasn’t very pleased with the bed rest stuff, he needed to train more if he wanted to get better, but a couple of days of rest should be fine. Not that big of a deal.
Eishia gulped before continuing, “I couldn’t do much because of how big the hole was in his stomach, so he needs to rest for about,” she paused for a second, holding up two of her fingers. “at least two weeks until he can start doing simple jobs..”
Excuse me..?
Enjin hummed, “That shouldn’t be so bad, you’ve on bed rest longer Zan-Zan so-”
“Does Enjin have to be here?” Zanka interuppted, looking at Eishia. His glare running shivers down her spine.
He had to wait two, TWO, weeks to even start doing the small simple jobs. Eishia explaining that to him wasn’t the issue, it was Enjin. He couldn’t bare the look his mentor might have on his face while Eishia explained he was gonna be useless for two weeks. All because he wasn’t good enough, he wasn’t quick enough. He sometimes wished his sister shot him with more than just bullets, maybe he would’ve moved out of the way faster, he wouldn’t be in this condition if he actually put his traning into action.
Damn it.
Eishia started sweating, “Oh..! Well…That’s up to you! You don’t have to have him in here if you don’t want him to..” She stated, fidgting with her fingers.
Zanka took a deep breath, “I..” he paused, lips almost quivering in hesitation. He did want Enjin to be here, but.. “I don’t want him in here.” He can’t see him, not like this.
Enjin was a bit taken aback, he knew Zanka liked his alone time but he usually didn’t mind when Enjin visited after he woke up. He even remembers Zanka telling him he enjoyed his company, though he was embarassed to say it.
“Ay, c’mon just tryin’ to be here for support—”
“Enjin..” Eishia softly interrupted, “Could you..? uh please..”
Enjin sighed in response, “Alright..but,” he raised his hand “before I go I gotta say somethin’ to you both.” he continued.
“Corvus said whenever Zanka got better enough to start doing the missions, he was gonna tell everyone in the cleaners some type of announcement.” The blonde scratched the back of his neck, looking at the two teens in front of him.
“That it?” Zanka said, a bitter tone filling his words.
Enjin opened his mouth, “Uh…yea?” he arched his eyebrow.
Zanka hummed, “Cool, then go.” His tone was more flat this time, but his previous tone still lingering behind.
“Zanka, maybe lay down on the tone..?” Eishia suggested
Zanka clicked his teeth angrily, “Whatever…” Zanka looked away from the two people in front of him to look at the window. Gosh, did it really need a deep clean.
Eishia furrowed her eyebrows, quivering her lips, “Alright…” she said softly—but you could tell there was some type of bitter intent in it—turning her head away from Zanka.
The room once again fell silent, not that Zanka didn’t like silence every once in awhile. He loved the quiet moments he had in the infirmary when he was healing, gave him time to think about what to do after his injuries were healed. Along with polishing Lovely and meditating with her.
But right now the quiet seemed too awkward. The amount of small movements Zanka could hear the people in front of him make, made him feel like he had super-human hearing. It was irratating. Being too aware of his surroundings didn’t leave a good feeling in his stomach.
Despite the Hell Guard teaching him to always be on high alert, the silence that came with it was gut wrenching for him. He hated it. He couldn’t relax, he was always too paranoid. The other Cleaners always told him he was safe enough to not be on the look-out all the time, but anytime he actually tried to ‘relax’ when things were a little too peaceful, he’d bounce his leg or fidget with anything he could get his hands on.
He feared if he let his guard down once he’d get jumped or worse, the Cleaners would get jumped themselves. Someone HAD to be on the look-out, even if they did have or did find someone who could look over everyone at the same time, Zanka still wouldn’t feel safe.
Enjins cough broke the slience, a snort following soon after.
“Y’know Zanka if you need me—”
“Enjin why’re you still here?!” The teen barked out, clenching his hand in his lap. “Do you just not know the concept of leaving someone alone? Or do you just like fuckin’ around with people like you do outside of Cleaner HQ?!” Zankas voice cracked a little bit near the end, almost yelling at this point. Which Zanka soon regretted doing as pain started filling up around his lower stomach, he clenched his own body around his arms leaning himself more down on the bed.
A small groan escaped the teens lips as Esihia quickly came over to his side, “Zanka try not to yell or do something to make your muscles tense..!” She moved Lovely back to the wall, “I-I’m sorry..! I should’ve told you as soon as you woke up, I messed up I’m sorry..!” Eishia started rubbing cricles on Zankas back to try to ease the pain.
Zanka looked up at her, “Don’t worry about it—” He coughed “—not your fault, August is one hell of a distraction sometimes..” He reassured her.
Enjin stammered around before opening his mouth, “Hey—what the hell?!?”
“Enjin.” Eishia looked at him, giving him a stern stare. ‘Don’t make shit worse than it already is’ type of look.
The elder furrowed his eyebrows, staring at the scene in front of him. Then let out a big sigh, “Alright..I’ll go.” Enjin waved his hand before stepping out.
As soon as Zanka heard the door shut he let out a shaky breath, the pain started to die down but definitely still hurt to move around a little.
Eishia soon started to notice Zanka stopped shaking as much, he trembled here and there, but it was a sign for her to stop rubbing his back.
“Are you alright..?” She asked him, tone being cautious as if trying not to trigger a trap that could set off if not careful. She didn’t need to do that, she was fine, but Zanka understood why she was being cautious.
Zanka groaned, “Yeah..a lil’ bit but I’ll be fine..”
Zanka looked around the room, to try to distract himself from the pain—which slowly started getting worse since he yelled—in his stomach. He noticed Eishia and August were gone already, they must’ve left a while ago. He kinda wished August came back so he had someone louder than his thoughts to distract him. But how the hell did August leave so quietly?!?
His lips soon turned into a frown, he REALLY hated being on bed-rest. He got bored way too quickly.—even though he said he could handle it—Zanka could be doing something fun right now, like: Training, or polishing and talking to Lovely.
What’s crazy to him is the fact it hasn’t been a day, what’s even crazier is the fact that it hasn’t even been thirty minutes since he woke up!
He let out a displeased groan as he let Eishia do a quick check-up on him. This was going to be a very long two weeks.
Enjin shuts the door quietly to Zankas infirmary room, and heads down to the dining hall.
What the hell was that?!?
He knew he shouldn’t have expected Zanka to be in a good mood when he woke up, but he didn’t expect him to lash out on him. Zanka was never once mean to anyone after he would come back from a mission injured, he always told everyone he was fine, he did it to himself and how he just needed to work harder.
Now Enjin was REALLY starting to get worried.
Ever since Zanka met that Jabber guy he’d been more hard on himself with training, Zanka would sometimes skip meals with the team to go train. Gris had tried telling Zanka meals are very important for training, but Zanka brushed him off saying ‘I already ate.’
There was one time Riyo had went to Enjins office saying she found Zanka passed out on the training grounds, she told him she tried picking up but was way heavier than she expected. Which was weird since she’s carried him before.
He didn’t wanna believe her a first, Zanka sometimes did go overboard with his training but he wouldn’t actually go to the point where he’d harm himself again, especially after the talk they had together after he had caught Zanka cutting himself.
When Enjin had got there Zanka was in-fact passed out on the ground, poor kid did really overwork himself to exhaustion.
He really hated seeing Zanka upset, and he knew he wasn’t going to get any answers out of him if he asked questions. Whether he waited for him to come up to him or not, he still wouldn’t say anything that was actually bothering him.
All Enjin could do was sigh,
When he opened the doors to the dining hall, he saw Gris and Follo at a table together. Why not join them? That’d probably make him feel better, or to get his thoughts off of Zanka for a while.
He walked over to the table with a smile and waved as he slid himself into the chair next to Gris,
“‘Sup..” Enjin said, placing his hand under his chin.
“Hey Enjin!” Follo greeted with a small wave, which Enjin recripricated with a soft smile.
Gris chuckled, “So,” he started “How’s your mornin’ been?” he looked over at Enjin, before taking a bite out of his sandwich.
“It’s been ight’, for the most part.” The blonde sighed, making Follo and Gris raise an eyebrow.
“Oh? How come?” Follo asked, eyebrow still raised.
Enjin leaned back in his chair, he could tell them Zanka was in a snappy mood. Then again, he didn’t..HAVE to. He could just have someone else figure out Zankas attitude and have them complain to him, boy would that be funny. But, he was the adult so he has to be responsible. He really didn't want someone coming into his office complaining about Zankas attitude. But he was nice to Eishia so maybe it was selective..?
Semiu would still get on his ass for it, since he was basically Zankas current guardian. Gris ESPECIALLY would get on his ass, when it came to any kid in the cleaners being upset, Gris was always trying to make them feel better. And he knew Gris would press him for answers. Man this sucks ass.
“Eh, it’s just Zanka being in a pissy mood since he woke up.” Enjin itched the inside of his ear, “Got mad at me, nothin’ too crazy.”
Follo scoffed “What?”
“Zanka got mad at…you?” Gris butted in, confused. “Are you sure he got mad? Or are you saying that cause of how he talks to you when you give him ‘life lessons’.” He contuinued, putting up air quotes.
“WOW, ok. First of all, he does give me some type of attitude when I give him pep talks. Second of all, yes. He was upset, but I’m sure he’ll be fine..” Enjin rubbed the back of his neck, lips almost turning into a pout.
“He usually doesn’t say anything that’s bothering him so you don’t know that for sure.” Follo added.
Enjin groaned, wow Follo thanks. That helps.
Gris hummed, “Did you ask him if he was alright?”
“No. I didn’t, he kept pressing me to get out.” Enjin tapped his fingers onto the table, looking away from Gris who was practically trying to eyeball him for answers.
“He kept pressing you out?” Gris’ voice was low, but it was loud enough for Enjin to look at him.
Great, now Gris was going into dad mode.
He tended to eyeball Enjin hard whenever Enjin wasn’t really being fully honest, it’d be a lie if Enjin said it didn’t creep him out. He wasn’t a big fan of being watched.
“Enjin. Answer-”
“Follo! Buddy, you got your cleaner uniform on! Got a mission today?” Enjin quickly interrupted, he wanted to at least save this conversation for later. Cause he did not feel like debriefing..whatever Zanka had going on currently, THIS early in the morning.
Follos eyes lit up, then his face went into a panic, “OH SHIT!” he started to scrambled with the stuff he had brought with him to the dining hall. He quickly started cleaning up his breakfest, shoving whatever was left of his food into his mouth.
“Fogot I had a mission this morning!” He spewed out, trying not to let food spit out of his mouth, “Let me know what happens wif Zanka!” Follo waved before disappearing behind the double doors.
“Be safe!” Gris waved back.
Great. There goes Enjins ‘escape the worrysome conversation with Gris’ scape goat.
Now it was just him and Gris, sitting alone. Together. In silence. Why the hell were there so many silent moments today!?! The day just started!
“Now,” Gris started “Do you wanna tell me what’s actually on your mind about Zanka, or do you wanna push that aside for later and forget about it?” The elder man looked at him with worry, practiclly pleading him with his beautiful baby blue eyes that fit his blonde hair and well-built body so well.
Enjin rubbed his temple, then ran his hand down his face. He was tired, hungry, and really needed a cigarette.
“I really don’t want to talk about it this early..”
“Well..alright..”
Breakfast went…ok for the most part. Enjin talked about a mission he was supposed to go on to in a couple of hours, but the image of Zanka yelling at him really stuck with him. Anytime he wasn’t distracted by Gris, he kept hearing that bitter voice in the back of his head. Gris somehow snapped him out of that thought immeditely after.
Zanka was just, never the type to yell. At least when it came to Enjin anyway. He always was happy to talk to Enjin, but still tried keeping his ‘nonchalant’ act around him. Enjin found it adorable because of how hard he really tries to hide it.
Even when he complimented him or praised him after a mission, he would notice Zanka getting red in the face, even giggling when Zanka thought Enjin was far enough to not hear it.
Again, Enjin knew he shouldn’t have expected Zanka to wake up in a good mood. But he always finds a way to blame himself and not get mad at others, so what changed? He wanted him out of the room, but why? Was it because he was embarassed? If so, what was he so embarassed about.
Did he want alone time with Eishia? No, that wouldn’t make sense, he’s never seen Zanka interested in a relationship let alone women in general.
There were times where he has tried to get Zanka to go out and find somebody, but he always declined saying training was more important to him.
Enjin’ll figure out soon, he just had to wait it out.
“Enjin, did you get that?” Semiu arched a brow, holding a paper.
Enjin coughed, “Yeah of course..” he clasped his hands together.
Semiu just gave him a look, telling Enjin she knew he did infact, NOT get all of that. But she decided not to make the team wait any longer so she just hummed and sent them on their way.
On the way to the car though, he could feel Gris and Riyo’s stares eyeing him as they walked.
He knew Gris would do it but Riyo? She practically knew everyones buisness, somehow. She was like Semiu but without the glasses. He was surprised Riyo didn’t figure out what had happened yet, given her and Eishia were good friends. He’d thnk Eishia would’ve told her by now.
Enjin turned to look at his team, Riyo immediately looked away acting like she was looking at something else, Gris was deadset on eye contact with Enjin to no surprise, Rudo was adjusting his uniform, Tomme was looking over notes she got from Semiu, and finally Fu—somehow—looking around nervously, maybe itching around for an order?
Enjin wasn’t exactly untrustful with Fu, but he wouldn’t say it was the opposite either. He had—mixed feelings to say the least. Fu was an interesting kid, he followed anyone around who’d give him orders. Amo was one of the main people he followed around, but since they weren’t on missions much she’d order him to do ‘girly’ stuff instead—in Enjins words.
Semiu had looked over him a couple of times after they got back from the south-ward cleaners, she said he had no hostile intetions as far as she looked, told Enjin he was just some kid with a switch if you gave him a certain order. Okay, that could work for Enjin. A little bit.
Enjin turned back around, stopping in front of their car. He had no idea where they were going or what beast was supposedly there, but what trash beast needs to be beaten by bare fists?! This was so infurrating, his mind was still on Zanka and now he had no idea where to even go for the mission.
“Gris you drive.” Enjin said tossing the keys to him.
Gris catched it confused, “Thought you said you were gonna drive?” he headed to the drivers side and opened the door.
Enjin and the rest of the team followed suit and got into the car, Enjin was the first to fasten his seat-belt. “Gonna be an honest man here,” the blonde sighed “was not listening to a thing Semiu said.”
The driver side door was slammed shut and later followed by an, “ENJIN!” from Gris. Which later turned into a scolding about how it was very important to know everything about missions so they can go smoothly with no one walking away with serious injuries.
—END— where I stopped writing.
