Work Text:
Eggchan had a secret, he held for a long time. Every morning, where all the people of Unstable, Eggchan made food.
That was not the secret. Not even close. But each morning, he talked with a person. This person wasn't exactly loved by everyone, and was average height and had a scary appearance.
Eggchan didn't really mind, he was nice to the face and seemed kind. The only thing that was surprising was, the person never expected food, and was extremely underweight.
Eggchan always handed him food, and sometimes they talked over the counter. It was never something too personal, but they chatted.
Overtime, He learned his name, Wifies.
Eggchan soon saw him as a son, someone to guide through this difficult place. The thing was, Wemmbu didn't exactly "love" Wifies. And Eggchan knew that Wifies was a bad person, and he really didn't care. Everyone around him was or is a bad person.
And soon enough, Wifies called Eggchan "Father!".... Which, for a second, it felt like Eggchans world collapsed as it came back in color.
They talked, they travled while Wemmbu was busy, sometimes they exchanged poison. It was just how they got together and it wasn't anything special.
One day, Wifies sat by Eggchan, on the porch of Wemmbus house.
"Dad.."
"Yes Wifies?"
"Don't you know I'm a bad person truly. I kinda deserve whatever Parrot would want to do to me."
"Everyone around me is a bad person Wifies."
"So why are you around them?"
"Good question.."
Eggchan got lost with the question, digging somewhere deep into his brain for the answer.
"They all just.. it's complicated Wifies."
"Then tell me."
"We all aren't really 'good people' you know?"
"yes."
Eggchan got the truth on the tip of this throat, and had to explain.
"It's really because... These people, like Wemmbu, You, and even Flamefrags, the truth is.. you guys never had real love. Not the type of love where you see them romantically, but where you have someone to hold to. A parent, a close friend, a sibling."
Wifies stared at the dirt under his boots. He knew it was true, but he never knew someone could tell. And in all this time, he finally understood why he felt lighter.
"ummm.. you good Wifies?"
"I'm good dad."
Eggchan handed Wifies a cup of hot chocolate, warm with toasted marshmallows on top.
"Dad..?"
"mhm?"
Wifies slowly, and if not trembling, sat in Eggchans lap. He didn't know how to ask for a hug. He didn't know whether he deserved a hug.
Eggchan gently wrapped his arms around Wifies, placing Wifies head on his shoulder.
"It's gonna be alright." Eggchan mumbled softly.
Wifies felt the soft warm tears in his eyes, the ones he held back no matter what.
But this time, he allowed it to rolled down his face, to his chin.
Eggchan just hummed a soft lullaby, rubbing Wifies back.
Wifies sobbed into his shoulder, biting Eggchans suit top and struggling to breathe. He felt like he was at a loss for words, like he lost the ability to think the aynltical way he always did.
Eggchan continued humming, now stroking his hair.
Wifies just sat there, hands wrapped tight around Eggchans waist, half lost. He didn't know why he felt this way, and he just wanted to stay like this for a little longer.
"You okay now?" Eggchan exclaimed.
"just a little longer.. please." Wifies muttered raspy, weakly.
Eggchan didn't reply, and kept rocking the chair as he adjusted Wifies scarf.
"Do you understand now?" Eggchan asked.
"I.. I get it." Wifies straightened out his voice.
The snow fell softly, the air somehow warmer between them. This moment didn't need to be perfect, it just was enough.
Wemmbu stepped out on the porch, watching Eggchan hold the thing Parrot swore was the most violent and cruel thing on that planet, and he nodded and sat in the other chair.
Eggchan just hummed. Somehow, in this cold cruel world, he had indeed so many friends. He could tame the worst of them all, but it wasn't that he needed to, or he saw them as puzzles...
Eggchan saw them as humans.
