Work Text:
“Guys guys!” Rinku yelled out, barging through the door like she just won a marathon.
Maho nearly fell out of her seat, feeling startled from the sudden yelling “What!?” She asked in a panic tone “What happened Rinku!?” She stood up and ran up to her, grabbing Rinku by the shoulders “Say something!”
“There’s a new music festival happening today!” Rinku exclaimed, shoving a flier into Maho’s face “See!?”
Maho felt taken aback, all of that yelling just for a music festival? Rinku made it seem like someone died! “Let me see-“
“I’ll take that!” Muni snatched the flier out of Maho’s hands, inspecting it closely with a look of judgement “Hmm…” She looked at the date written in the corner.
It’s happening today.
In a few hours.
“Rinku you couldn’t have told us earlier!?” Muni yelled out “How do you expect us to get there on time!?”
“I forgot!” Rinku raised her arms in defeat “I was gonna tell you guys yesterday, but then I came across a new food market that just opened!” She started explaining “The food looked to go for me to just walk past it. And then three hours passed, then the whole night passed… And I just remembered to tell you!”
Muni got up and grabbed Rinku by the shoulders, shaking her violently “YOU IDIOT-“
But thankfully, before the fight could escalate Rei spoke up “Guys, stop!” She said surprisingly loudly “We’re not going get anywhere if you two keep on fighting like cats.” She stood in-between them, separating them “Calm down, we’ll figure it out.”
“Guys forget about the time problem!”
Everyone turned to stare at Maho, as she continued speaking “We don’t have any way to get there. We can’t drive!” She reminded them. None of them had a drivers license, or anyone to drive them.
“Says who?” Muni retorted, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow as if challenging Maho.
“Are you insane!?” Maho cried out, looking at Muni as if she just suggested recreating Chernobyl “We don’t have a license and we’re too young to drive!” She tried reasoning with Muni “What if the cops see us, huh!?”
“We’ll outrun them!” Rinku added, siding with Muni
“YOU’RE NOT HELPING-“
But when Muni had a plan, she will go through with that plan. And soon enough, the four of them found themselves in an old car Muni and Rei rented. Well Rei paid for it, Muni’s just the one driving it. “Buckle up!” She said, starting the car. It took a few attempts but she managed to get it to start running.
“How did you even learn how to drive?” Maho asked skeptically, hesitantly taking a seat and buckling up.
“I watched a few YouTube tutorials.” Muni said as the car made a sound that DEFINITELY wasn’t normal.
“Yeah no we’re doomed.”
Rinku meanwhile had no problem trusting Muni. She took a seat next to her at the front, fastening the seatbelt while her legs were kicking back and forth from excitement. “Ooh, this is so exciting!” She exclaimed, raising her hands up as high as the car roof allowed. “I trust you, Muni, that you will get us to our destination.”
Muni blushed at the praise, but she didn’t mind it all that much “Yeah, yeah, now lets get going!”
“Woah!” Rei yelped out when the car suddenly jerked forward, before jerking back and hitting the curb. “M-muni be careful!” She said while fixing her hair “And watch where you’re going…”
Muni groaned and turned around to stare at Rei “Well then why don’t you drive, huh?”
“…”
“Exactly.” Muni unfortunately didn’t notice that the car was still moving, leading to the car slamming straight into a light-pole. She grabbed the wheel as fast as her body allowed, turning the wheel as she backed away from the pole and onto the road.
“Muni!” Maho yelled out “Watch it! You could’ve gotten us seriously hurt!” She scolded her, it was as if she was the only sane person here “Seriously, this is a bad idea.”
“Cry about it.” Muni spat, before slamming her leg on the gas pedal. The car speeded down the road at a definitely illegal speed “Look at all these losers behind us. They’re so slow!”
“MUNI THIS SPEED IS ILLEGAL!” Maho screamed, gripping her seat desperately as she prayed to God that they wouldn’t crash.
“Muni slow down!” Rei yelled out, although quieter than Maho “We could crash at this speed!”
“THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!” Meanwhile, Rinku was acting as if this were a rollercoaster. “Don’t slow down Muni, this is so much fun!”
Muni looked at Rinku at smirked, shifting gears and speeding the car up to what seemed like an impossible speed. Before driving down the rockiest, bumpiest, most uneven road ever. “W-w-w-woah!” The car bumped up and down, shaking them up and down which definitely wasn’t good for their health.
“WOWOWOWOWOWO!” Rinku raised her arms up again, grinning widely “This is so much fun!” She turned to look at Muni “It’s like a rollercoaster ride, except you’re driving us. It’s a Muni-ride!”
“I think I’m gonna puke!” Maho groaned, and leaned back against her seat, swallowing down her nausea.
Rei was quick to grab a random bag she found “Here.” She gave it to Maho “Just in case…”
“Thanks…” Maho sighed but gratefully took the bag, opening up a window to get a breath of fresh air. Maybe that will help her nausea.
But lucky for her the bumpy road came to an end, and now they were in a creepy forest… “Did I forget to mention this festival is in the middle of no where…” Rinku sheepishly asked, pressing her finger to her cheek in a cute manner. “Whoops!”
“W-what if we get eaten by bears!?” Rei said in a panicked voice, her eyes widening at the thought “O-or worse… By a wolf!” She clutched her bag, her breath speeding up in panic.
“Relax,” Muni said, not even turning around to look at her “We’re in a car, the bears and wolfs can’t get us.” She continued driving the car with no worries, humming one of their songs because the radio had no signal in the forest.
“Do you feel better Maho?” Rinku asked, turning around to look at her friend.
“Y-yeah, I’m better…” Maho replied with a small smile, grateful that Rinku cared about her.
Rinku shot her a toothy grin, before turning back to Muni “I wonder where else this trip will take us? What if we come across cute animals!” She said, barely containing her excitement “Like Nyochio!” She moved her finger to poke it, but Muni quickly pulled the plushy against her chest.
“Watch it!” She glared at Rinku, turning her attention away from the road “Don’t just poke it like that…”
“Sorry!” Rinku quickly apologized “I’ll admire it from afar.” She corrected herself, smilingly at Muni apologetically
“Eyes on the road Muni.” Maho reminded, earning a groan from Muni.
While the two at the front were lost in their own world, Maho turned towards Rei to start a conversation:
“I swear those two will end up crashing the car…” Maho whispered, a look of exasperation on her face. “Who let Muni drive again…?” She asked, shooting a glance at their very unprofessional driver.
Rei shrugged, turning to look at Maho “Let’s just stay optimistic and hope this all ends well…” She whispered back.
“I can hear you, you know.” Muni suddenly said, catching them both of guard.
Rei jumped in her seat, eyes widening as she quickly backtracked “Oh no, we didn’t mean it like that! We uhh…-“
Muni sighed “You two are clearly bored…” She reached into her bag “Rinku, keep your hands on the wheel for me.”
“Oki doki!” Rinku grabbed the wheel and kept in steady, just like Muni told her to. “Like this?”
Muni gave her a thumbs up without even looking at her, digging through her bag and pulling out paper and pencils. She turned around and gave them to Rei and Maho “Here, to entertain yourselves.” She threw two pencils and an eraser at them. “Draw the scenery outside, or whatever.”
“Why are you even carrying this with you?” Maho asked, tapping the pencil against the paper.
“I’m an artist, I don’t leave the house empty handed.” Muni deadpanned, as if it were the most obvious answer ever.
“Like how I have the piano app on my phone,” Rei said, clapping her hands together “I could draw my piano!” And with a sudden burst of inspiration, she picked the pencil up and started drawing.
Maho also started doodling, random birds she saw out the window. The road wasn’t as bumpy so it was definitely easier to draw this way. Plus it would calm both her and Rei from the stress of letting Muni drive.
“Can I have one too, please!” Rinku begged, giving Muni her best puppy dog eyes.
Muni didn’t even hesitate as she reached into her bag and gave Rinku paper and pencils, plus a few colored pencils in all of her favorite colors “Here, now where’s my thank you-“
“Thank you Muni!” Rinku said, booping her nose. She picked the pencil up and started sketching, using all the art knowledge she learned from watching Muni draw.
The difference in paper quality was very obvious, as Muni gave Maho and Rei paper so thin it might as well be printer paper. Meanwhile she gave Rinku, although not professional grade, a higher quality paper. Saying Muni had a soft spot for Rinku was an understatement, despite all their arguments Muni still cared about her just how Rinku cared for her.
Eventually they were out of the forest and onto the highway, and just when they thought nothing else could go wrong…
WEE WOO WEE WOO
“Are those sirens!?” Rei cried out, staring out the window.
“Yes they are!” Maho responded in panic “Muni, pull over! Now!”
But Muni didn’t care at all, instead she started racing against the cops “Only if they catch me first!” She gently kicked Rinku’s leg “Help me out here!”
Rinku nodded and slammed both feet onto the gas pedals, while Muni started driving across the whole road to confuse the cops.
Muni drove straight down the road and into a ditch, the car was effectively stuck. “Oh c’mon!” She tried moving the car but it was definitely not budging “Stupid hole!” She slammed her fist against the car horn. “Everyone, get out. We’re continuing on foot.” Muni got out and Rinku followed.
Maho groaned “Well this is great…” But she also got up, Rei following after her.
“How long until we get there?” Rei asked, straightening her clothes out to make herself look presentable.
“We’re almost there!” Rinku said in excitement “I can hear the music!” She pointed in the direction the music was coming from “Let’s go!” She took of running, the others quickly running to catch up to her.
The cops were also running after them, turning this into a chase on foot.
“They’re still after us!?” Muni said in exasperation, rolling her eyes “Don’t they have anything better to do!?”
“Just keep running!” Rei said, panting as she ran as fast as she could. “We can lose them if we run far enough!”
“It’s the music festival!” Rinku yelled out, grabbing all of their attention “Look!” She pointed at it.
They somehow managed to lose the cops, getting lost in the crowd and hiding amongst the other people at the festival. “Well, I call this a success.” Muni said, crossing her arms proudly.
“We almost died and got jailed!” Maho reminded her.
“But we made it, that’s good right?” Rei said
“I agree with Rei!” Rinku added

The festival eventually came to an end, and the four were back on the road. Luckily the cops didn’t go after them this time… Probably gave up.
Rinku turned to look at Muni, grinning widely as she showed her the drawing “I drew us!”
Muni blushed as she took a glance at the drawing, quickly looking back at the road and avoiding eye contact “It’s nice, I guess…” She was definitely hanging it up on her wall when they get home. But then the car came to a sudden and harsh stop…
“Guys…” Muni said, her voice dangerously serious
Rei straightened up in worry “Yeah?”
“What’s wrong?” Maho asked, feeling a pit of anxiety pool in her stomach.
“We ran out of gas.” Welp, looks like they’re not getting home anytime soon.
“Ooh! Camping trip!” Rinku exclaimed, opening the door and leaping out.
Maho followed Rinku out of the car, the other two watching “This isn’t a camping trip, we’re stranded!” Maho yelled back at Rinku.
“Well, we still had fun. And we made it to the festival on time! And it was the best festival we’ve been to yet! So I call this trip a success!”
Maho sighed and backed away, already knowing what was coming.
Rinku twirled around and jumped into the air
“Happy around!”
