Work Text:

“I'd come to hate it all. Now, by your side, I earnestly said ‘I want to see heaven soon’ with a smile.”

I’ve always loved the way she would talk. Her voice always managed to make me smile. Whatever it was, I've always cherished those small moments. Whenever I talked to her, I would get this strange feeling in my heart. I don't know what it was but all I knew was that it wasn’t love. Well, it may be love but it felt more platonic than romantic. She never hesitated to comfort me in times of trouble and despair. She brought up my mood even during the middle of the night. I'm supposed to be the one who saves but.. she was my savior.

Her name used to be Mizuki, Akiyama Mizuki. I used to call Mizuki by her online alias, Amia. I used to repeat that name in my head all day long. Amia, it felt soft to pronounce and had a ring to it. I loved that name. I loved her. Plantonically of course. That name fit her. If the name Amia had a definition then it would be ‘Something pretty and soft on the outside but understanding and compassionate on the inside’.

Mizuki was good at everything. She was amazing at singing, designing, drawing, decorating, and writing. It was as if she was blessed by the heavens themselves. Who could be that perfect? No one except her. Every word and every note that came from her completed something in me.

She taught me to enjoy life, to be grateful in the little things that we miss in our lives. She taught me how to laugh with all my heart and she taught me to cherish every second of my life. I never thanked Amia enough. I wish I could give her the biggest hug as a “thanks for everything you’ve done for me”.

…

“I never really got into series or movies or even dramas. I never paid  attention to what was happening on screen. But after I met her, I started to enjoy them more.”

It was another normal evening. Since Mizuki hadn’t responded to my texts in a while I got a bit concerned. So to keep my mind off of the fact that Amia hasn’t been responding, I decided to lay down a bit. I let my worries go while thinking of what to do next. Sooner or later those blissful thoughts lead me straight to sleep. In my dream, I was with her. I was with Mizuki. She was so pretty not even the stars could compare to her. I held her hand and we flew to the ends of the universe.

But.. all good things must come to an end. I awoke in bed, it had already been 5 hours since I had fallen asleep. I quickly got into my chair, almost tripping in the process and logged onto Nightcord. Everyone was there except Mizuki. I asked the others if they've seen her but no one answered.

“Yuki, Enanan, please respond. I’m worried about her. please”

“What kind of savior can't even save their friend? Wake up. You need to move on”

…

Kanade woke up, slouched over her desk while her hair was spread across the synthesizer. She looks at the calendar. Today marks 1 year since Mizuki died. That very faithful day still haunts her. The balcony, the message, her tears. Kanade had failed to save her. Kanade had failed to move on.

She looked at the clock, “1:03 AM” It said. A normal person wouldn't be up so early but she isn’t a person anymore. A mere husk of what used to be a human. A husk of someone who used to be able to smile and laugh with all their heart.

Kanade slowly padded her way out of the room. The same room where her heart would pound in her chest whenever she had gotten a text from Mizuki. No one would care if she disappeared all of the sudden. Nightcord had already gotten tired of Kanade and her ramblings about Mizuki. Her head started pounding and throbbing, the sharp pain in her head wouldn’t go away. So the white haired girl went onto the balcony to get some fresh air.

…

High up in the sky, I saw her. Those white wings and the same smile I saw countless of times. It was Mizuki. It was my angel. I went to hold her hand. My soul stayed with her as my body crashed onto the ground. I felt like I was made out of pure air. No one would come looking for me, no one cared anymore. Except her. She led me into the light, the last light I would ever see.

…

Enanan: Hey, has anyone seen kanade? I know we’re on somewhat bad terms with her but I'm

worried.

Yuki: Sorry but I haven't heard from her in a while actually.

Amia: Let’s just get started with our work, she’ll join eventually.

“I'd come to hate it all. I felt that now, I earnestly want to

be with you for just a little longer

I hugged you without looking to the dark”

This was the end of Kanade Yoisaki, a girl who’s fate was sealed after being blinded by the false promise of

“I’ll never leave you”
