It takes years for him to stop dreaming about the taste of black blood on his tongue.
He still sees her, sometimes. In shadows, in corners, on busy streets and reflections in dirty mirrors. He dreams about her body against his. He wakes with her name on his lips.
He never mentions it to anyone. It's not their business. Ruby was Sam's sin, and she'll die that way with him, again and again.
He doesn't miss her. He didn't love her. At the end, he didn’t even want her.
If he says it enough, maybe it'll start to be true.
