Work Text:

She wheeled her chair over to the desk once again as she heard the familiar ringing of the bell, only to pause at who she saw. Through the thickening haze of green fog, she saw the Animal Corporation's hazmat team, meaning that the green goo within the hospital had grown to become a threat.
Auburn listened impatiently to the masked man before quickly stamping his form once he set it upon the counter. She stood almost instantly and bolted out of the office, running down the halls in a panic.
"Fuck, where did they go," she muttered to herself. Auburn called out nervously, "Cody!' To which the tan-and-white colored rabbit was nearly thrown from room 7, hitting the floor with a grunt of pain as she forced herself up. They had a heavy-looking limp, and as she looked closer, a sickening bite was visible on their calf. The wound was oozing with a mixture of blood and slime, exposing muscle.
"What the hell happened!?" She cursed, hurrying to Cody's side and supporting them easily. They were barely able to open their mouth to form a response before flinching back as a roar was heard from within the room they came out of.
Slimebert emerged, droplets of blood soaking into his foul-smelling slime from the attack as he emerged from within. Cody froze out of pure instinct and fear as they stared into the mass of green and yellow. They weren't sure whether the attack or the fact that his face was melting in half terrified them more. Auburn, however, reacted almost immediately, shaking Cody out of it and fleeing to the front desk with them as the hazmat team rushed past with their equipment.
She locked the door behind her before carefully laying the rabbit down as they grunted. Their voice was husky and breathless as they spoke, "Thank you.. Fuck!" Cursing in pain as Auburn ran her palm over their calf with a feather-light touch, wincing sympathetically at their pain. "I'm sorry, thumps. I'll call one of the nurses up." In truth, they trusted Rascal more than the main nurse as he wouldn't be terribly rough, but she knew better than to call Cody's cousin up while she was injured like this.
Grabbing the pillow off of the desk chair, Auburn propped Cody's head up before grabbing Security's radio and asking for one of the nurses to come to the front, hoping it was Fuschia over them all. Thankfully, it was, as the cocker spaniel pushed the door open with an air of curiosity. Once she took in the scene, she set to work immediately, rolling their pant leg up and cleaning the area. The nurse assessed the area of injury with laser focus while sifting through supplies. Thankfully, it didn't seem deep enough for significant damage, but looked like it had a high probability of infection.
She numbed the area and stitched up what she could before placing gauze and wrapping the wound with a bandage. "Okay, it should be able to heal on it's own, but keep an eye out for infection. Make sure to file for workers' comp if you can. I'll ask for Sean to delete the video evidence of me treating you so you aren't charged. I mean, I'm sure Harlow wouldn't make you pay, but I wouldn't be surprised if the corporation makes him take it out of your paycheck. Call me back up if it gets worse, okay?" Auburn nodded for Cody as the rabbit unfortunately seemed to be in a daze.
Once the nurse left to find the security guard, Auburn returned to working as she still had patients to check in, but she glanced down at Cody every few minutes to make sure they were doing okay. They slowly came out of the daze, but their sanity must have been dangerously low, as their eyelids were drooping quite a bit.
In the middle of checking a patient in, Auburn felt a weight on her foot. She sent the patient on their way before peeking under the desk to see what it was, only to smile in amusement at the view. Cody had, of course, fallen asleep under the desk, but their head was rested over Auburn's feet. She reached down and adjusted their hat to rest it over their eyes before returning to checking patients in, being careful to not wake them up.
Maybe this should become a little routine.
