Work Text:
Mabel pines is an…interesting girl with one thing on her mind, romance. It’s all she was looking forward to when the summer began, a perfect summer romance!!
She wanted a boy to like her back! She tried all summer and none of her plans worked.
First she gave a boy a ‘Date me!’ note without a no option, then she popped out from behind things to give guys a friendly fright in hopes that they’d see how cool she is, but they’d only run away…. Hell she even kidnapped a cloned boy group from their owners and kept them hostage until her friends had to intervene!..
Anyway… The point is that she’s tired of waiting around for a boy in Gravity falls to come to her, not like it was much better back home in California.
But regardless, she was going to get a super special summer love no matter what! Even if her brother keeps trying to rain on her parade….

“Oh come on Mabel, you don’t even know this kid! He could be a…weirdo. Or an old man!” Dipper grumbles as he scrambles up from the floor after losing the shove match they were having. Rubbing his back as he looks up at her with a frustrated expression.
Eyes narrowed on the phone she now holds in her hand, their shared phone…. The phone that usually sits at the bottom of his bag. It’s not like they need it anyway, there’s adventures to be had instead.
”Dipper, this is important to me! A guy finally likes me back, and you can’t even be happy for me? You have to do all that overthinking dork stuff.“ Mabel replies in a little huff. A small pout on her typically grinning face.
Standing over him with the phone held over her head like she’s a victorious leader. Her ruby red sweater sleeves swallowing her hands. Her eyebrows furrow as she slowly lowers the phone… Letting out a sigh as she plops back down on her bed.
“I just….really like this guy, dipper. He’s not like the gnomes or Mermando. And he’s definitely not like Gideon.”
Dipper stares at her silently as he slowly stands back up. Hands clenched at his sides as he lets out a loud sigh. Before finally caving as he lets his head fall back, staring up at the ceiling, replying in a low annoyed tone.
“Fine… fine. You can talk to him. But if he ends up being a weird little freak like Gideon—” Mabel immediately intercepts that thought, her voice back to its joyful charm as she jumps up from the bed. Holding the phone against her chest. “He won’t! I promise. No more weirdos in my love life! Morty's… different.”
Her head tilts to the side as she says this and dipper swears she looks like a dog…. But he guesses it’s a product of puppy love and decides just to roll his eyes.
Sure, he’s happy that she’s happy. But the internet isn’t just puppy’s and rainbows… And she somehow found this guy on Snapchat of all things. He can’t help but be a little protective of his twin sister, she is the only twin he has after all.
“Okay just…. try to remember online safety, yeah? There are a bunch of creeps on there.” He says in a blunt yet caring tone, one usually reserved for when Mabel’s doing something that he wouldn’t do. Which is… a lot of the time.
Rubbing his hand down his face before turning his attention back to her. And who would’ve known that she's already lying on her bed. Stomach down as she kicks her feet in the air, typing away on their shared phone.
He just rolls his eyes and sighs again before grabbing his journal off the side table and stomping out of their room. Still salty about losing in their shove match…. Meanwhile, Mabel focuses in on texting Morty back.
They’ve been messaging for about three days now, and she’s already sure they’re made for each other! They might even… FaceTime tonight!! That thought alone makes her giddy, a big grin on her face.
Showing off her braces as her eyes squint, and a giggle erupts from her throat. Letting out a sigh of joy as she rolls back over onto her back. Her pink sheets shifting under her. Her fingers moving as fast as lighting as she types up a storm. Not caring about ‘social cues’ or whatever her parents always yell at her about. She’s happy and this boy hasn’t ghosted her yet! That’s a win in her book….
