Work Text:
These head canons are written as if Moon is the second daycare worker with Sun.
Also, some of these are VERY similar to each other. Just go with it PLEASE
General
- Moon is usually better with quiet kids, only because he’s okay with sitting next to them and just. . . coloring. Or doing nothing. Like, by the end of the day, he has a squad of quiet kids (and some Big Kiddos) in a corner with pillows and paint and they’re all just having quiet time.
- He usually lets Sun set up for naptime, but he’s the one that always makes sure everyone is safe and sleeping well.
- He loves painting. Whenever they’re doing drawing or painting, he’ll always participate and help with technique
- He bakes. If it’s somebody’s birthday (kiddo or staff), he’ll bring cupcakes or cake or cookies or SOMETHING for them. His favorite part is decorating, so he’ll make sure the desserts are “tailored” to whoever they’re for.
- Kinda the same thing, he’ll usually draw or paint something for a kiddo’s birthday. Especially if it’s an older kiddo who doesn’t like sweets.
- Same thing as Sun, the reason he has bells on his hat, wrists, and shoes is to make sure vision impaired kiddos can still find them easily.
- The stars on his clothes glow in the dark.
- Sun has magic and puppet shows, Moon has acrobatics and gymnastics.
- Moon single-handedly “cures” a lot of the kiddo’s arachnophobia. Like, whenever a kiddo finds a spider (or really any bug), he never lets them kill it. He always tells them the importance of every innocent living thing. And he goes on a spiel about how they’re just trying to live too, and even if they’re scared, they still shouldn’t kill out of fear. (Really deep life lessons in disguise is his forte, I think).
- I think if he notices a kiddo in trouble he ALWAYS says something or confronts it head on
- Kiddo isn’t eating much? He’s sitting next to them at lunch and gently nudging them when they pick at their food. Afterward, he probably pulls them aside and just checks in with them. Makes sure everything is okay. If he notices they only eat certain things (whether they’re picky, it’s a safe food, or they just prefer certain foods/snacks), he tries to make sure they always have it available. He hates the idea of a kiddo not eating enough at the daycare. He also thinks eating disorders are WAAYYYY too normalized in youth (and not properly addressed as self harm), so he does everything he can to combat it.
- He notices a kiddo wearing long sleeves/consistently covering up? He’s checking up on them. Asking about their home life. Just letting them know he’s there. After he notices this, he always observes the people who pick up the kiddo. Just tries to get a feel for how their family is. If he suspects ANYTHING, he’ll tell Sun and/or ask the kiddo if everything is ok. He refuses to just watch while he thinks something is going on with a kiddo, and he takes mental health VERY seriously.
- Overall, he just thinks mental health in youth is so neglected, so he gives the kiddos talks every now and then. It both warms and breaks his heart when a kiddo will come up to him at the end of the day and thank him for the talk or confide in him.
- Similarly, he never hesitates to put in overtime to help a kiddo out after hours. Like, finding a place to stay, finding dinner, waiting for a guardian to pick them up. Often, he’s the one who helps after hours (as Sun helps set up early in the morning before Moon gets there). This is so much more than a job (to the both of them). He loves these kids, and he genuinely wants them to grow up knowing they’re cared for and worth it.
Teens and Up
- During meal time, Sun is usually dealing with the young kiddos, so Moon will always chat with the volunteers or older kiddos and keep them company.
- Since the majority of his time is spent with the older kiddos, he always tries to come up with fun activities that don’t always require talking (because he knows teens just want to keep to themselves sometimes). So, he does quiet reading a lot with them. Like, they’ll go in a big tent and get flashlights and read. Or, if they want, he’ll read to them.
- I bet one day, there’s a new kiddo at the daycare who’s on the older side, and they’re unsure of what activities they should do or who they should hang out with. Moon notices and he sits with them and offers to color or read with them or just talk. So they color and talk about books (best of both worlds). So, from then on, the kiddo always follows Moon around. They’re also one of the kiddos that return to volunteer/work at the daycare. They never let Moon forget that he was their friend when they needed one.
Younger(?) than a teen, Idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- He loves when little kiddos talk to him. Typically, only older kiddos talk to him (as the younger kiddos think he’s cold), so when the younger kiddos talk to him, he tries his best to be sweet.
- People think it’s Sun that gives the younger kiddos candy and stuff, but it’s Moon. Since he doesn’t take care of them as much as Sun, he is W E A K when it comes to their insistence.
