Work Text:

Kai raised his hand against the door, ready to knock when a loud sneeze erupted from the room behind it. Yeesh.

“Jay? Can I come in?”

Silence.

Worried that he had somehow suffocated on snot, he held the bowl steady in one hand as the other made its way to the doorknob. Turning it, he pushed forward before stopping as a voice carried out a weak protest.

“No! Don’t–” The voice began, interrupted by a cough. “I look like shit.”

At that horrible and pathetic excuse, Kai pushed the door open the rest of the way.

To say Jay looked like crap was putting it lightly.

His pale skin was somehow paler– seriously, he looked like a ghost– the corners of his nose reddened. Kai felt a little guilty for thinking it made him look cute. Sue him.

“Hey,” He started out, inching forward.

Jay grumbled a greeting back, reaching for the tissues Zane had so lovingly set on his nightstand. Someone had moved his garbage can to the edge of his bed, probably due to the massive amount of soft paper being blown into it.

“How ya feeling?”

“How does it look?”

Kai smiled, pushing the garbage can further down as he sat on the messed up covers.

Jay pushed himself up more, sitting up straight. He was wearing a hoodie, some stupid gag gift Cole had gotten him a few years ago prior. “You look great.”

The other man rolled his eyes before they darted to the bowl in hand. “What’s that?”

“Well,” Kai began, suddenly feeling sweaty himself. “I called your mom and asked her for that soup you like when you’re sick. She told me how to make it.”

Eyes looked back at him, and Kai could swear there were hearts floating around in the sea of blue. “You..”

“It took longer than usual cause I had her on the phone the whole time. She walked me through it, step by step.” He explained, reaching forward with one hand and guiding Jay’s own palms to open up.

Placing the bowl down in his hands, he leaned forward to press a kiss against his cheek. “I hope it’s good. Cole said he liked it, but I hope you do.”

It was the truth, as the brunette had spent more time than he liked on the soup. Cutting the carrots a certain way was already hard enough. Zane had offered to help, but he had refused. Usually when the nindroid offered, it turned into him bearing most of the responsibility.

And Kai wanted the credit for this one.

Jay took a sip, and almost immediately his eyes lit up. “This is perfect,” He whispered, sounding a little groggy.

The brunette bit back his bragging, settling on a humble nod and ‘Thank you’

He sat on the covers as Jay inhaled the liquid gold, watching every twitch of his mouth for any signs of disgust. Kai was grateful when none appeared, and the soup vanished like it was never there.

Jay placed the bowl down on his nightstand, and Kai moved to pick it up.

He was stopped when a hand darted to his wrist, and the other man shook his head. “You hafta stay.”

Laughing, he turned fully to Jay as he hovered. “I do?”

“I’m cold.”

And with that– and no further protests, he was so weak when it came to his boyfriend– he shimmied under the covers. Making himself comfortable, he let the other cling onto him like a koala.

“Thank you. I really appreciate it.” Jay mumbled, burrowing his face into the crook of Kai’s neck. The brunette was so thankful he didn’t get sick (usually). Growing up alone had strengthened his immune system beyond belief.

As much as it was selfish to admit, he took a little bit of giddyness when Jay got sick. Pampering his boyfriend and watching his reaction to every small thing Kai did was so addicting.

Kai nodded, pressing a small kiss to Jay’s frizzy and messed up curls.

“Of course.” He mumbled, rubbing circles into his skin. “Feeling better?”

“Much better, with you here.”

He laughed, the action no doubt jostling the boy in front of him a little. “Good, ‘m glad.”

Jay hummed, his fingers tightening against warm skin, sucking up all the warmth he could possibly get.

They laid there in peace for a moment, the sounds of slightly labored breathing emitting from the body in his grasp. It was nice, until Jay jerked back, sitting up like lightning.

Kai moved up, snapping out of his tired haze to wonder what the issue was when his question was answered without verbal confirmation. The other reached over for the nightstand, covering his nose with another hand.

The brunette beat him to it, grabbing the tissue box just as fast and handing it to him. Jay ripped a tissue out, letting himself sneeze right as the paper touched his skin.

Kai placed a hand on his knee, drumming his fingers against the bone as Jay blew his nose.

“Don’t–” He mumbled, his stuffy nose preventing his speech from sounding how it usually did, “Don’t look.”

Smiling, he closed his eyes as Jay blew one last time, reaching over his shoulder to place the tissues in the bin beside his bed. Kai peaked an eye open, grin still evident on his face.

“Done?”

Grumbling, Jay nodded and pulled him back into bed. His grip was tighter than before– if that was possible– and Kai relished in the feeling.

God, Kai loved when Jay was sick.

He loved it so so so much.
