“Ede… ede are you awake?”
Shion was practically whispering, tugging at the arms wrapped around her waist. She craned her head back, trying to look at whether Kaede is ignoring her or actually fast asleep without snapping her neck in two. That day was the last before Shion left to open a bakery in her hometown. It was a dream of hers, but her dear girlfriend could not come along, she had to stay, to study. It wouldn’t be long, in a few years time they’d be together again.
“Kaede, I have to get up.”
She still didn’t budge. Instead, she pushed her face deeper into Shion’s hair, squeezing her stomach in the process from holding down so hard.
“Today’s the last day you know? We still have hours before I go… Do you not want to make the most of it?”
The older still kept her grip, this time pressing kisses onto the back of her neck.
“I’m not falling for your antics again”
“Just once…” Kaede sounded tired, yawning in between words.
Shion managed to somehow break free from the older girl’s grasp, turning to face her. Kaede looked just as tired as she sounded, eyes half open. Still so adorable…
“You can kiss me all you want later. Right now you need to wake up.” She stood up from the bed, leaning to open the window. “I’m gonna go shops, just so you don’t have to the first few weeks, do you want anything now?
Kaede stayed silent, she probably didn’t want anything. Shion looked at her from the door, hands resting on her hips, before blowing her a kiss and walking out the door.
The shopping didn’t take long, it was only buying the absolute essentials. By the time she came back, Kaede was on the couch, staring at a TV turned off. She placed the bags carefully on the ground before walking up behind her. “Sulking are we?”
The older girl turned around, the most unnoticeable pout on her face. “Why do you have to go… Could you not just stay here with me?”
Shion sighed, before walking over and sitting right beside her, patting her lap.
“You know I’m not going forever,” She murmured, holding Kaede and ruffling her hair. “I’ll come back home before you even know it.”
“But I don’t want you to go…”
“Maybe there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to either, but you know, I can’t stay in one place forever, It’ll be better in the long run. And anyway Ede, I can buy you anything you dream of, wouldn’t that be fair?”
Kaede looked up, this time the tiniest smile plastered on her face, covering the Korean's neck with her arms. “Fair.”
“Now will you stop sulking?”
“I can’t confirm that”
For the rest of that day, they mostly sat on the couch, talking about everything and nothing, and obviously quick kisses here and there. The only times they weren’t sprawled cuddling they were in the kitchen, Kaede either watching Shion cook or kissing her wherever. From the outside, they looked like newlyweds, or at least two who had just gotten into a relationship.
It all went by in a blur, and the next thing they knew, it was 2 AM the next day, and Shion was getting ready to leave. Her bags were lined up by the door, and the only thing left was to put on her outfit. That day she decided to wear a simple white blouse and black shorts, with tights and ballerina flats. Kaede lay, half asleep because when the younger was pulling away, she was kind of rough and woke her in the process. She was whining every few minutes, sticking one hand out, trying to grab Shion anywhere.
“Don’t go… Ten more minutes… Please…” Kaede basically begged, finally grabbing onto a piece of Shion’s shirt.
“I’m sorry my love,” The Korean kneeled in front of the bed, her hand tracing patterns on Kaede’s cheek. “I’ll be back soon, just trust me.”
She kissed Kaede’s cheek, and then a second time on her forehead before standing up to go.
“I love you Ede, you know that.”
“I love you too Shionnie. Stay safe.”

The first year was brutal, for both of them. Kaede earned her first role in a musical drama, constant practicing draining her. Every first year of a business is harsh, Shion was working tirelessly every minute of that day. Whether it would be marketing, baking, or selling with the few friends she managed to hire. But even then, they still video called at least once every day. Their relationship was still as strong as ever, even with distance trying to stop them.
Still, as Shion promised, she visited her after a year. It seemed like an eternity, but that was the first time she had enough money and built trust with someone to manage it while she was gone. Kaede had no clue about this visit, she thought that the younger just had a really busy day and couldn’t call.
Nothing really had changed since she left. Kaede still lived in the same flat, actually nothing in the flat was moved around. It was like she had left the previous day. She moved around mechanically, trying not to wake her, before creeping into the room. Light managed to seep in, radiating perfectly off of her resting irresistibly cute face.
“Good morning, beautiful.” Shion whispered, giving Kaede a small peck on the cheek.
Kaede turned to face the wall, rubbing her eyes. “Whoever you are, stop pranking me.”
“Ede did you already forget me??”
The older finally turned around, opening her eyes slowly. When she saw who was looming in front of her, her heart did a double take.
“Shion?!” She shouted, reaching to turn on a lamp, making sure that what she was seeing was real. “Since when did you come back?”
Shion sat on the edge of the bed, watching Kaede sit up and grab her chest.
“At least I’m here.” She flicked Kaede’s forehead, watching her wince.
