Work Text:
The warm sun hugged Tobi as his eyes blinked at the sprawling brightness around him, a rare feeling for someone who spent so much of his time in the Underground Toyko. His pale eyes slowly adjusted to to the brightness of the sun reflecting off tall orange flowers, Gladiolus, if he remembered correctly from one of Fuchi's ramblings. Tobi slowly rubbed his eyes before they locked onto a distant figure. A familiar one.
"Brother...?" The word escaped Tobi with his permission, his legs starting to move on their own as he made a full sprint to Seki, the older brother he lost years ago. He stumbled slightly as the stems of the flowers beat his legs, but kept his eyes on Seki.
Seki's expression was calm, painfully so, as hew turned to face Tobi, holding his arms out to catch his sprinting brother, who ran into his chest with a soft thump. Tobi's fingers tightly gripped the back to Seki's shirt, making the older lift his hand and lightly stroke his brother's short, beige hair as he looked down, his only exposed eye, a bright blue, greeted with the sight of the top of Tobi's head. "You've grown so much... Last I saw you, you barely reached my hip."
"Brother, I-" Tobi's words were cut off but a choked sob, tears and mucus already beginning to stain Seki's shirt. The fingers lightly stroking his hair was somehow both soothing and upsetting at the same time. Tobi could hardly even remember the last time he hugged his brother like this, only when they got torn apart...
Seki smiled down at his crying brother, squeezing him tighter with his free arm. "It's okay to cry."
"You don't have to hold back."
"You can cry as much as you like."
...
...
Tobi shot up in his bed, wide awake and gasping for air.
In his bed.
His bed at the institute.
The institute he now lived in because his brother was gone and never coming back.
