Work Text:
Coy hated the beach and everything about it.
It was too hot, the sand got stuck in his toes and ruined his hair, the water was too cold and he did not want to be shirtless in front of a huge amount of people.
He can’t believe Hanbon and Will managed to convince him to come to the beach.
Coy was hating it.
Will and Hanbon were making hot chocolate with the sand while the sun burned his shoulders.
“C’mon Coy! Make hot chocolate with us,” Hanbon whined, pulling Coy’s arm repeatedly.
“No Bon! I am not making sand-chocolate.”
Hanbon gasped in mock-offence, “how could you!”
“I bet he just came here for the hot guys-” Will started before Hanbon shut him up with a punch to the side real quick.
Coy did not want to be here.
He loves Will and Hanbon, they’re his best friends ever, but god did he regret his decision to come here today.
“Coy!” Hanbons voice called out.
The youngest just hummed in acknowledgement while turning his head.
“Come with us! We have something to show you!” Will said, Hanbon standing next to him jumping with an insane amount of joy and excitement for someone at the beach.
Coy grumbled a response getting up and dusting the sand off his knees cause of fucking course there’s sand on his knees.
They both led him by the ocean and led him to the lifeguard post.
“Why did you guys bring me here-” Coy was halfway through his sentence when Hanbon shouted up to the lifeguard above them.
“Anthony!” She shouted, with no regard for the people around them.
The lifeguard, whose name was Anthony, Coy assumed, looked down lifting up his sunglasses.
“Hm? What’s up Bon?”
“Meet my friend Coy! He finally came to the beach with us, you know the one I told you about!” Hanbon yelled up, her hands cupped around her mouth.
Coy looked up at this poor man that Bon was harassi- holy fucking shit.
He had soft abs and the prettiest blue eyes he’d ever seen.
The softest and fluffiest hair, he wonders what would it feel like to run his hand through-
“Coy!” Will hissed beside him, pulling him away from his thoughts, “say hi!”
“Hi, I’m Anthony!” the man in front of him said with a smile, extending his hand, did Coy mention how fucking beautiful his smile was, his knees were weak.
“I’m Coy!” Coy said, grabbing the hand and shaking it, immediately plastering a smile onto his face.
“And I’m Will!” Will said, before getting harshly elbowed in the ribs by Hanbon.
Coy would’ve gone to the beach every fucking day if this was the sight he got to see everyday.
“Hi Coy, nice meeting you, you’re pretty cute!” The lifeguard said with a smile that made Coy’s knees feel like they had been hit in the back with a hammer, “I have to get back to work though,” he continued, exaggerating a frown at the end of the sentence.
“Nice meeting you too!” The shorter stumbled over his words, coming out jumbled on multiple different occasions.
“Bye Ant!” Both Will and Hanbon called.
The group walked away from the lifeguard post and the second they were out of earshot Coy started rambling.
“Bon, you have to give me his insta-” Coy pleaded, “I’m sorry for ever being mean to you and not coming everytime you asked me to come to the beach I will never do that again-”
Hanbon did want to give him a hard time but she was so excited seeing Coy in such a lovesick state.
“Fine, here” Hanbon sighed, handing him her phone with Anthony’s page pulled up.
Coy started scrolling and holy shit.
He was so hot. He immediately pulled out his phone and followed Anthony without hesitation which admittedly was pathetic as fuck.
“Bon, you are my favourite person ever.”
“What the fuck!” Will shouted, grabbing a handful of sand and throwing it at Coy, “did the HVAC convention and cool stranger hunting together mean nothing to you?”
“Did you introduce me to a hot guy?”
“No, but I was the emotional support!”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought”
Coy suddenly realised he needed to get Anthony’s attention immediately.
And Anthony was a lifeguard.
And they were at the beach.
Will talking brought him out of his thoughts.
“We’re going to make the sand-hot chocolate” Will giggled walking away from Coy, Hanbon not far behind.
“Bye Coy! You know where to find us!” Hanbon screamed from halfway across the beach.
Oh so his friends planned this beach trip to make a mockery out of him, clown him even, watch him flop around for a man’s attention. They were right, he would flop around for a man's attention.
Well fuck, he was gonna clown himself anyway, why stop now?
He walked into the ocean with the full intention of getting the hot lifeguards attention.
He tripped over his own feet in the ocean, mumbling something about, “help I’m drowning!”, when he clearly was very much above ground.
“Cute guy over there, stop stumbling in the water!” the lifeguard spoke through the microphone.
He looked up at the lifeguard post and saw Anthony smiling at him, giggling to himself.
He was embarrassed as fuck. The entire fucking beach was looking at him stumble around in the ocean.
He was bright red.
But Anthony’s smile and giggle was intoxicating.
God, Coy was whipped for this man he met at most 20 minutes ago.
He went up to the lifeguard post and looked up, “hey, you come here often?”
“A lot, considering it’s my job”
“Haha, you’re so funny and interesting and do you like men?”
“Some of them”
“Is one of them me?”
“Not yet, maybe soon”
Coy huffed and walked away. He was even more embarrassed. Who goes up to someone and just says that shit? Him, apparently.
Adding to his embarrassment, he did not expect to be engaging with banter with this man he has spoken to once before.
The banter was good though.
Hot, cute, beautiful hair, eyes and smile, and he was funny? It’s like Coy hit the jackpot.
Giving up on his romantic endeavours for a little while he headed back to find Will and Hanbon, instead finding a note clearly written by Will because for some reason he writes like he texts.
‘Sellimgn hot sand chocolate come fimdn us!’
What the hell, sure.
Coy walked under the blazing sun for about 10 horrendous minutes until he heard a group of two harassing people (with joy) to buy their hot chocolate.
“Hi guys!” Coy said as he approached, hearing Will say, “You can either get 1 for 500 dollars or 2 for 2 dollars.”
“Hi Coy!” Hanbon waved, a box holding hot chocolate slung around her neck.
“So we’re selling the sand chocolate?” Coy asked, gesturing to the hot chocolate selling set-up.
“Yup!” Both Will and Hanbon replied cheerfully. God, their joy and whimsy sickened him.
They walked around the beach a bit more, the blazing sun hitting Coy’s shoulder giving him a slight sun burn.
They ended up in front of the ocean, Hanbon went up to a few people, holding up a cup in her hand, , “Do you guys want hot chocolate?”
No one really wanted the hot chocolate, so she trudged back pouting, “No one wants hot chocolate!”
“It’s okay Bon, do you think the lifeguard wants some?” the youngest said, pulling her to the lifeguard post.
“Of course his gay ass wants to give some to the lifeguard,” Will joked, “this is why I said gay people don’t deserve to live.”
“Will, be nice!’ Hanbon scolded, “Yes, he is gay and pathetic, but he can only grow from there”
They weren’t very far from the lifeguard post and the second they were under it, Coy yelled up, “Hi up there! Do you want hot chocolate?”
“I would, but I don’t have my wallet on me!” Anthony shouted down.
“On the house for you handsome,” Coy said, immediately regretting the words as they came out of his mouth, “Never fucking mind! Ignore me!”
He handed the hot chocolate box to Hanbon and walked the farthest he possibly could away from the lifeguard post.
He was so fucking embarassed.
Eventually Hanbon and Will returned from their conversation with the lifeguard and Coy was taken home.
Usually he’d be happy about this but this time, not so much.
He couldn’t figure out why.
(He absolutely knew)
Next morning Coy sent a text in their groupchat

Who knows?
Coy hates the beach.
But the opportunity to see Anthony shirtless dwarfed anything else he could possibly care about that moment.
Also, he’d listen to anything a beautiful man tells him to do.
His phone buzzed with another text which reminded he can’t just leave Anthony on seen.
anthony

ok!!!
Coy got ready in record time, putting on his clothes over his swim trunks and getting in his car he was shaking from excitement.
He sent a quick text in the group chat about him going on a date before starting his car.
He got to the beach 5 minutes early and he sent Anthony a text saying he was on his way.
He got a response within seconds that read, “I’m here, wya”
They eventually met up by the ice cream cart and oh my god Coy was a goner.
Anthony had his shirt off, he had sunglasses on his hair and he had a beautiful, wide smile, and dimples the younger did not notice earlier, and Anthony’s bright blue irises and his abs.
Coy was about to drool on the spot.
“Hi Anthony!” Coy said, a little awkwardly, he did not want to make a bad impression in front of the love of his life.
“Hey Coy!” the other smiled, “you’re so pretty”
Coy short circuited 19 times hearing those words, “well you’re hot so that uhm- I don’t know- fuck”
They talked for a bit while setting up a spot to lay down.
Anthony was just so funny and so interesting to talk to and the way he saw the world was just so intriguing.
He’d never been so intrigued by someone he’d just met, and you could say originally that he was entirely in it for looks, but now he knows that the other is so funny and interesting.
“Coy, what the fuck?”
Coy tilted his head, he didn’t know what Anthony was complaining about, “What’s up?”
“Your fucking shoulders! They’re bright red! Did you not wear sunscreen?” Anthony scolded, already grabbing sunscreen from the pile of stuff he brought.
“Oh they got burnt yesterday, so like there was really no point if you think about it-”
“No point? Coy just, come here” Anthony huffed, mock annoyed.
He pulled Coy onto his lap, which Coy did not expect, letting a yelp out at the sudden movement.
“Well hi there handsome,” Coy joked, vulnerably sitting on Anthony’s lap., He was nervous as shit and maybe found this situation hot as hell.
“You need to start putting on sunscreen like regularly. I can’t save you all the time, as much as I want to,” Anthony sighed, rubbing sunscreen onto Coy’s already sunburnt shoulders.
“You wanna save me all the time?” Coy said, batting his eyelashes, when he was off of Anthony’s lap.
“Yes- but that wasn’t the point of the sentence, that’s not what I said-” Anthony started before being cut off.
“Well no, ‘cause that’s exactly what you said just now so… you want me?” Coy batted his eyelashes harder, if that was even possible.
“Well obviously I fucking want you, I’m on a date with you!”
Coy flushed so hard at that statement.
White boy gets red easily part 1 billion.
“Aw, you’re blushing!” Anthony teased, with a voice so high pitched that Coy was cringing.
“Nevermind. How do I leave this date?” he mumbled.
Despite his words, Coy felt a non-sun related heat creeping up the back of his neck to the tip of his ears.
He was so whipped.
He felt like a folding chair because goddamn, any words that came out of Anthony’s mouth would make him fall harder.
Even if they were cringe.
Yes they met one day ago.
Coy still did not care.
People say that you know when you find ‘your person’ and Coy genuinely thinks he found his person on a beach of all places.
Ironic, his person in one of his least favourite places.
His least favourite would be a knocked down used porta potty he guesses.
Sorry what is this fic about?
“Hey Ant, would you hate me if I said something?” Coy asked, genuinely twiddling his thumbs.
“Probably not,” Anthony responded, looking at Coy.
“I fucking hate the beach- I’m sorry so much sand and so many people and it’s so fucking hot-” Coy started rambling, “You probably hate me now sorry.”
“Why would I hate you? Everyone has their things they hate and who am I to police you?” the older said, clearly confused on why the other apologized.
“You love the beach and I don’t, surely you want a partner that loves the beach too”
“Compromise is a thing, and I enjoy doing that thing,” Anthony said, poking Coy in the side.
“Really?”
“Of course! Why would I want to build a relationship where only one person was happy and comfortable all the time and the other was suffering?”
“Wow okay,” Coy said, his eyes practically becoming cartoonish love hearts, “so, like, I’m sorry, can we skip every other stage? I think I’ve found my soulmate.”
Anthony just laughed, “Do you wanna go somewhere else? We’re losing daylight here,”
“Can we? I fucking hate this place,”
Anthony smiled, quickly picking up his stuff, getting up and extending a hand to Coy, “Where d’you wanna go?”
“I wanna get ice cream, and not the kind from a shitty moving stall on the beach,” Coy said decisively, clearly he planned this ahead, Anthony thought.
Coy put the clothes he had in the car over his trunks, Anthony just watching.
“Are you just gonna stand there and watch?” Coy asked, eyebrows raised.
“Well… yeah?”
“Okay fag,” Coy joked.
“Ah shit” Anthony cursed.
“What’s up?” Coy asked, struggling to get the shirt on.
“I didn’t bring any clothes cause I live 5 minutes away, lemme go change and come”
“I’ll take you-” Coy squeezed out, winning the battle against the shirt but actively losing the battle with the jeans.
“No, Coy, don’t worry about it I live 5 minutes away,”
“Anthony, we are going to be getting in this car later anyway, stop fighting, now get in the car so I can drive you around like a chauffeur.” Coy said, a tone of finality heavy in his voice, especially since he won the war against both his shirt and pants. He was so talented.
Anthony realised there was no winning this and got in the car.
The drive was decently quick, Anthony telling him the directions in the passenger seat.
Coy could get used to this, instead of Will messing up a coin flip for the 40th time.
They parked in front of his building and Anthony led him inside, insisting Coy come with and not wallow in the car alone.
Coy agreed.
He was a little curious to see how Anthony lived, call him the curious monkey or whatever.
The apartment was quaint and definitely had a homey vibe to it, random posters covered the walls, along with tapestries that added a sense of humour to it.
Coy sat on the sofa in the living room waiting for Anthony to return.
He spotted a decent video rig, as well as a bunch of other random trinkets.
Anthony finally came out in a little sweater vest type thing and jeans.
He looked so fine.
“Wow okay is it a make Coy fold challenge today?” Coy regretted the words when they came out of his mouth.
It’s a common occurrence for him honestly.
Anthony replied with a joke Coy could not process because, wow, did Anthony’s arms always look this good? Or did the sweater show it off?
They went to the nearest ice cream place and talked about whatever they could think about for the duration of the car ride.
On arrival, Coy bought cookies and cream, only to be criticized by the man next to him.
The man next to him bought some triple chocolate cancer inducing ice cream, so honestly, he has no right to speak on the issue.
They started walking outside, finding a little park bench to sit on.
“Why do you like the beach so much?” Coy asked, in between licks of ice cream.
“I just like the community. Ever since I was young I always wanted to bring people together and have people make memories and friends and have fun in unexpected places, and there aren’t a lot of places where community exist. Beaches and parks are the main places you find hordes of people willing to interact.”
“So why do you prefer beaches?” Coy asked, he was intrigued, Anthony always had such a unique way with words.
“I don’t, it’s just a job that was more accessible to me than, say, a park ranger. I love community more than anything. We’re in a time where human interaction is based on screens and I want to exist in places where it doesn’t, you know?”
“Wow, you’re so well spoken and I’m just me”
Coy felt so small and stupid in this conversation.
“No, don’t say that, you probably have a lot of profound things to say, you just haven’t found a way to say them yet,” Anthony comforted him.
They talked for what felt like hours which in reality was probably 10 minutes.
Anthony had been done with his ice cream long ago more engaged with talking.
Coy just finished his ice cream, when Anthony pointed at him, “hey, you got something over- wait I’ll just get it,”
He swiped at Coy’s bottom lip and Coy felt heat rush into his face.
Their eye contact felt a lot more intense than what it was 5 seconds ago.
The same second Coy decided to move up and chase Anthony’s lips was the same second Anthony came down to kiss him.
Their lips crashed together and it was the most perfect kiss Coy ever experienced.
Their lips slotted together like puzzle pieces and it felt right.
“Woah, I think I’m into you or something,” Coy said the second they pulled apart, red faced with his lips spit-coated.
“You think?”
“I’m not sure, I think we’ll have to kiss again to be sure,”
Anthony smiled, leaning down for another kiss.
