Work Text:

"Huh, it's raining again." Silhouette commented, looking out the big window from the castle. It was an odd habit Licorice had grown used to, his husband randomly staring outside sometimes. Especially when it rained. Silhouette always seemed interested in the rain, as if he was surprised by it. The demon had grown far used to the rain, it rained often in Ne-No-Kuni when he was a child. It wasn't until years later that he learned his father's mood was responsible for the rain.

"You aren't used to the rain, even after staying in Ne-No-Kuni for six years?" Licorice finally spoke, he was monotone like usual.. but perhaps there was a little judgment laced between his words. He watched as Silhouette turned around with a gleeful grin.

"Oh I'm used to it, just makes me happy when it rains here." He hummed out. Licorice didn't understand, rain was associated with sorrow in his own perception.. but to this odd man, the rain was something of happiness? Silhouette was already odd enough.. but sometimes.. he was more odd than Licorice could comprehend. The demon stayed quiet for a few moments, trying to comprehend his husband's odd brain. "..happy..?" Is all he could manage out. The hybrid merely laughed and nodded at the others puzzled expression.

"Are you judging me!?" Silhouette spewed out dramatically, knowing damn well he was. He couldn't help but laugh at his own dramatics. Licorice's annoyed yet flustered face certainly didn't help either. The demon looked beautiful as he always did.. hair up in a bun, wearing some sweater and cardigan combination. Ever since their daughter was born.. he'd been wearing less formal attire in day to day. He looked comfortable on the couch too, buried into a book yet clearly not reading it.

Silhouette couldn't help but smile to himself, he loved the comfortable atmosphere they'd created. The hybrid walked over to the couch and sat down, leaning a little to look at the book he certainly wasn't going to read either. "I wish Sylvie was around, she loves the rain just as much." He then sighed dramatically once again, resisting the urge to smirk as he watched Licorice close his book entirely. Looking over slowly, the demon's left eye twitched. "You mean our daughter, who loves to play in the rain until she's crying due to the cold. You feel horrible.. and worse when she gets sick. After I warned you." He deadpanned, even looking a little annoyed.

The little princess didn't get sick often but both her parents hated it when she wasn't feeling well. Silhouette smiled sheepishly, instinctively going up to rub the back of his neck. "Maybe it's a good thing she's with your parents.." he mumbled back. They both missed her, even though it had only been a day. Sylveira was spending the weekend with Satanick and Ivlis, it happened more often now that they resided in the gray garden. Both remained in silence for a moment. Licorice missed her as well but he was (attempting) to be stotic and not admit it. His maternal instincts were either a blessing or a curse. Both some days. Silhouette remained bored, thinking about what they could do.

It felt weird.. the entire castle to themselves. No chaotic six year old. No neat freak angel nagging them. Or his parents around to hear their teasing. Everyone was either away or busy. His mind slowly went to dirtier places.. but then again. Licorice preferred to keep that around nighttime. So those plans were filled. It was just the weird quiet time to themselves. It was almost like when someone had a job.. and outside of that job they don't know what to do with themselves. Looking around once again, Silhouette's eyes widened with an idea. He nudged his husband gently.

"Hey, Lico." The demon didn't look up from his book. He hummed out a quiet acknowledgement, letting the other continue. "What if we made a cake!? Wodahs isn't around to yell at us for making a mess-" his voice became quieter at the next words, almost a little embarrassed. "And it's fend for ourselves dinner wise without him..." Licorice merely gave his husband a look. He knew how bad he was at cooking. Although it was oddly convenient. The hybrid was good at cooking when no one else was around and Licorice was feeling too sick or tired to do it himself. Silhouette grinned wider, he hadn't said no yet. He stood up from the couch and grabbed the other's arm.

"C'mon! We can make cake and dinner, maybe watch a movie too~" Licorice groaned a little as he was pulled up forcefully. He didn't fully respond yet before being dragged off into the kitchen. Abandoning his book and soft blanket. "I didn't say yes, Silhouette!" He protested. Knowing it wouldn't get far as he watched the over begin to gather ingredients for chocolate cake. However.. as he was grabbing ingredients, Licorice though about it. He watched this man burn waffles in a toaster for their daughter.. he'd gotten far too distracted. There was no way he'd manage a cake entirely.

The demon wasn't exactly a master crafter in the kitchen.. but he helped often as a child. Usually helping his mother with cooking and baking alongside Emalf and Poemi when they were. "I.." He started quietly, taking a deep breath. He walked over to his husband and grabbed his wrist. "I'm.. feeling too tired to make things, Sil." He started once more, still soft. "Why don't.. uhm. We just go out..?" Silhouette turned his head slowly, adjusting himself. He pulled Licorice into a hug, burying his face into his neck out of nowhere. "Oh thank gods.. I was waiting for you to say that.." he removed his head from his neck and smiled sheepishly once more.

"I know you don't really trust me to cook and I didn't want you to do all the work." Licorice couldn't help but groan to himself once more, how did he not expect this. Of course this idiot knew. Silhouette was dramatic.. not stupid. "Just say that next time." Is all the demon managed to grumble out. Escaping the hold and going to grab coats. He didn't want to get sick. The hybrid took that at his sign to grab umbrellas as well. There was a cafe nearby they liked to frequent. It had sweets galore and a few.. normal items. They didn't even have to discuss location.. they both knew it would be that cozy cafe. Even the walk there had little words.

They each held an umbrella and held hands, walking through the rainy atmosphere. Silhouette loved it, he was entirely relaxed. Licorice couldn't bring himself to relax entirely due to his interpretation of the rain.. but his husband made it easier. The two entered the cafe not long after leaving the castle. "Go sit down, I'll order for us." The hybrid said. Smiling softly at his husband and pointing at a table. Licorice nodded, going to sit down.

He was glad there were umbrella holders in the front of the cafe. It would have been a pain to get water everywhere, especially for the workers. The idea of being an inconvenience to a world he didn't exactly belong in felt.. worse. Licorice knew he was welcomed by its rulers.. he was married to their son after all. However it was hard for some residents to approve of him.. give the similarities he had to his mother. He didn't enjoy the stares some would give.. but if they ever happened when Sylvie was around.. it was a different story.

"Licorice?"

Ah. The demon looked up again, he'd gotten lost in his own thoughts. Silhouette had a tray of items, two sandwiches, a bowl of soup and two slices of cake. Along with drinks. He set the tray down, putting out each item. "You okay..?" Silhouette asked carefully. He always hated that sentence.. not in a literal sense. He merely hated it because his husband was worried about him.. even if that was technically apart of his 'job.'

"I'm alri-.." Licorice paused, noticing the bigger slice of cake had gone to him. He blushed almost immediately. Refusing to look at the other that had sat down smirking. "Thank you, Silhouette." Licorice mumbled, trying to sound stotic as if he didn't care about the bigger piece of cake in front of him. Although his tail gave him away as it typically did. The hybrid didn't comment, regardless of wanting to. He grabbed his drink and took a slow satisfying sip as he watched the demon take a bite of the cake.

The way he smiled through each bite, tail wagging far more fast than before. "Sweets and rain.." Silhouette said softly, looking out the window that was next to them. "Seems like a pretty good day~ wouldn't you say, love?" He looked back at Licorice who had been savoring another bit of chocolate in his mouth. Eyes wide he set his fork down quickly and looked away, blushing in embarrassment once again. "Yes.. a good day." The demon agreed, noticing the rain was easing up. "Let's.. make sure we take something home for Sylveira."

...

"Probably should, the princess wouldn't be happy without her own treat awaiting when she comes home tomorrow." Both hybrid and demon smiled to each other at the comment. Silhouette didn't even have to think about it. He knew how their daughter was with sweets. Just like her mother. Licorice took another bite of the cake, satisfied by its sweetness. "You're right, today was decent. Rain.. nice food, the castle to ourselves." Most of their days were nice.. they seemed to be more peaceful in the garden, ones Licorice grew to appreciate more than he expected. He enjoyed living in Ne-No-Kuni but if their plan was going to work.. they needed advice from Etihw and Kcalb as well after they'd gained enough knowledge from Satanick and Ivlis.

"One day we'll have a world of our own and all of our days will be peaceful like this." Silhouette agreed. Still smiling as he grabbed Licorice's hand. Rubbing his knuckles absentmindedly.

"But.. for now. Let's enjoy our time here, okay?" Licorice nodded in agreement, more than happy to comply. Knowing the future was going to hold much more for them. He had a feeling it was more than either of them could ever expect.

Notes:

I planned so many things for the summer event and sadly wasn't able to finish most of them D:
I'm glad I got one out at least and unsurprisingly it's LicoSil!

I have another I'm attempting to work on with Satanick and Ivlis but no promises that it'll be posted, regardless of that!
This fic does have mentions of what I plan for the future in Sylvie's story! To which I need to start chapter 4.. but I will do that soon enough!

Thank you so much for reading as always! I hope you all had an amazing summer now that we are close to the end of it! <3
