Chapter Text
Mellow was starting to get used to his new normal, of not being hit by bottles, or told to do a bunch of scary stuff, or having to beat up random people.
Most of his days were doing “homework”, playing with his new toys, or sometimes going out with Mirianne or Ticketa to the store.
But despite everything being drastically different and new, he still got bored. A lot.
Usually when Mellow was bored and alone, he would find someone to talk to. Also known as ask a million questions until THEY get bored.
He always tried one person first.
“Tip, I'm bored.”
Nothing happened. He must be asleep.
Alright then time to see whose downstairs then.
Well... no one was in the living room. Except Diana who was asleep on a chair. Better not wake them.
Mirianne was in the kitchen. She was counting groceries. Dejavu of the first night here hit Mellow.
“Watcha doin“ Mellow asked plainly.
Mirianne glanced up, then back to her clip board. Seemed like she was busy.
“Some of the food went missing recently.” Mirianne explained, anxiety lacing her voice.
Which confused Mellow... That's how food works. It goes missing when people eat it.
“Isn't that how food works? It goes missing when people eat it.”
Mirianne sighed, but stayed patient. “Yes, but... Despite the number of people in this house, everything in the cupboards disappeared. Over night.”
Mirianne started writing faster, her face turning even more anxiety filled at the reminder.
“Oh” Mellow responded simply.
“Its fine though, we got more food! No need to worry!” It sounded more like she was trying to soothe herself, and not Mellow.
“Ohkay.”
Mellow stood there, watching her silently. Until Mirianne glanced up at him again.
“Are you bored, Mellow?” She asked, lowering her clip board fully so Mellow knew she was listening.
“Uyeah... Do you know where everyone is?” Mellow shuffled his feet and looked down. He felt a bit bad about interrupting her.
“Yes, most everyone is out right now. Tickta and Ticketo are on a date. Boone and Boon are at an art show. Ms. Mania, Harry, and Urchin went to a spa. Whiskers said he saw a pond nearby so he's probably there. Debbie and Paisley I'm not sure.... Cathews outside in the front yard.”
Mellow still didn't leave, pondering what to do next.
“Are you still busy?” Mellow knew the answer, but wanted to make sure.
“Yes, Mellow. Cathew is probably just as bored as you. Why don't you hang out with him for now and we can hang out when I'm done, alright?”
Mirianne's anxiety faded slightly, giving Mellow a soft reassuring smile.
“Okay... Bye Mirianne.” Mellow waved
“Bye Mellow.” Mirianne gave a small wave back, then quickly went back to what she was doing.
Mellow went back into the living room, and opened the front door-
He blinked at the sight before him, hand paused on the door knob in surprise.
The Surgeon... Lying on his back. Covered in blood. Arms splayed out to their side. His expression was completely neutral as always. Mellow wasn't entirely sure if they were even alive.
Well only one way to find out.
Mellow lightly kicked his head. They made an “oof” noise, but otherwise stayed the same.
“You good?” Mellow asked curiously.
“No.”
“Is that your blood?” Mellow leaned in closer, to see if the Surgeon had any open wounds or anything.
“No.”
“Do you want to come inside?” The surgeon didn't respond to that question, staying silent.
Mellow took that as a yes, but since they didn't move he decided he could move them himself.
Mellow put both hands under the Surgeons arms, and pulled with all his might.
It didn't work, and the Surgeon didn't budge.
Mellow tried again, but this time the Surgeon suddenly got up, startling Mellow as he hung off the Surgeons arms.
The Surgeon simply grabbed him then put him back down onto the floor.
Mellow blinked at him. They simply turned around and started walking.
“Where are you going?” Mellow asked.
“Back to God.” The Surgeon responded, not looking back.
Mellow felt disappointment. He wanted the Surgeon to stay, at least a little longer. He was interesting.
Then Mellow remembered he was coming out here for someone else.
“Have you seen Cathew?” That made the surgeon stop in their tracks.
“...No... Sorry, Mellow.” The Surgeon said, getting ready to start walking again.
“Isokay... Can you help me find him?” Mellow held his hands together rather politely.
The Surgeon sighed, putting his head in his hands. Then they turned around to face Mellow, one hand out in a silent gesture to hold it. “Of course, Mellow.”
