Chapter Text
Megumi’s POV
Yuji died one week ago, it was time for bed. Megumi walked to his dorm quietly. Geto stopped him, since Gojo was on a mission overseas.
“How are you doing?” Geto asked.
“I’m fine.” Megumi mumbled.
“No. No you’re not. Be honest.”
“I am being honest.”
Megumi rushed to his dorm and slammed the door and locked it to stop Geto from talking to him. Geto sighed and walked away.
Inside his dorm, Megumi walked to the mirror by his closet. Oh boy. He looked like an absolute mess. He didn’t think that Yuji’s death would get to him this much. He knew the guy for a month.
A month.
…One month too long.
Megumi quickly changed out of his uniform into his pajamas that insisted of an oversized t-shirt and sweatpants. He turned back to the mirror and ran his hands through his hair, sighing.
“God… what is wrong with me?” Megumi mumbled under his breath before looking down and backing away from the mirror.
Megumi walked to his bed and practically fell onto it. His face instantly buried itself into his pillow, and he fell asleep.
—
Yuji was there. Standing right in front of Megumi. He was looking at him like he was worth something, though he’s not worth anything. Megumi tried to move away, but his body wouldn’t let him. Yuji stepped toward him and it’s as if Megumi’s hands naturally found themselves on Yuji's waist. Yuji’s hands snaked up Megumi’s body and set on his face.
Megumi didn’t understand what was happening. Yuji was dead, yet he was there. Holding him. Megumi’s eyes closed and he leaned into Yuji’s touch.
All of a sudden, there was rain. Megumi opened his eyes and blood poured onto his feet from the hole in Yuji’s chest. He looked up and saw Yuji smiling. God. That smile. Yuji was always smiling.
“I hope you live a long life.” Were the words that came from Yuji’s mouth. Megumi had heard those words before.
“Itadori!” Megumi yelled, his grip on Yuji tightening.
Yuji suddenly disappeared. The smile on his face was the last thing to leave.
—
Megumi woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. It was a dream, he thought. He sat up, the sunrays from his window painting his face in warmth. What he wanted was to stay in bed for the day. He debated on texting Geto that he didn’t feel good, but he knew Geto would come and act like an overprotective parent if he did that. Ultimately, he decided to just get up and ready. He had training with the second years anyway.
One thing Megumi didn’t understand was why he and Yuji were holding each other like that. And why was thinking about it making Megumi flustered? His mind was filled with Yuji-centric thoughts, and it was a weird feeling for Megumi. Yuji was his best friend, and he is dead now, so these thoughts are completely unnecessary.
Megumi stood up and grabbed his uniform from his closet. He could’ve sworn he saw Yuji standing in his room when he exited. As soon as he blinked, however, Yuji disappeared. Megumi quickly changed into his uniform and adjusted his hair enough that it would look fine for the day. He walked out of his room and was instantly met with Maki.
“Training started an hour ago.” Maki firmly said.
“I just slept in.” Megumi replied, grumbling.
“Geto was worried.”
“He always is.”
“Well, he said you’ve been acting strange ever since Yuji died.”
Megumi froze at the mention of Yuji’s name. Could Maki read his thoughts or something?
“This is not about Itadori.” Megumi said through his teeth as he walked away from Maki, needing to get away from this conversation.
“Yeah sure, lie to me and be late for training.”
Maki tried to catch up to Megumi, but he was walking quite quickly to get to the training grounds, where Nobara was sparring with Panda, and Inumaki was resting.
“Kelp.” Inumaki noticed Megumi coming down the stairs.
Megumi simply waved at Inumaki and continued walking to see if Nobara and Panda were actually sparring or fooling around. Turns out they were just fooling around.
“FUSHIGURO! YOU’RE LATE!” Nobara yelled at Megumi when she noticed him.
“Yeah I’m aware.” Megumi crossed his arms.
Panda, who was holding Nobara up in the air, dropped her and hurried over to Megumi.
“Are you ok? From my experience, you’re never late for anything!” Panda asked worriedly.
“I’m fine, I just forgot to set my alarm this morning.” Megumi replied, which wasn’t a lie. He really didn’t set his alarm.
Megumi didn’t notice, but Nobara walked over to him and kicked him harshly in the space between his shin and calf. He winced and buckled over on the ground.
“That’s for forcing ME to do your drills!” She screamed.
“SHIT. You didn’t need to!” Megumi screamed back, standing up.
“She offered to do them!” Maki called, who was sitting next to Inumaki.
Megumi turned and glared at Nobara, who had her hands up apologetically. That’s when Megumi decided he’s had enough and marched back up the stairs to get back to his dorm room.
“HEY MAN I’M SORRY!” Nobara yelled, but Megumi was too tired of all of the shit that happened today to care about it and continued walking with his eyes glued to the floor.
He made it to his dorm room and slammed the door shut once he entered it. He took off his uniform jacket and shoes and laid down in his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Unfortunately for Megumi, now without distractions from people, his thoughts were Yuji-centered again. He thought about how Yuji would help him through this with soothing words and a smile. He pressed his wrists to his eyes to attempt to block the thoughts from coming, with no success. He groaned and took his hands from his eyes to turn to his side and closed his eyes.
Megumi thought about the day he and Yuji met. 1 month ago. He thought about seeing Yuji throw the weight and thinking how incredible his strength was. He thought about when Yuji ran past him and he sensed the cursed object.
Megumi continued thinking about the situations he and Yuji went through together that day. One thought in particular caught his eye. And that was when Yuji ate Sukuna’s finger. He ate that finger to save Megumi. Both of them were in danger, and Yuji just ate the finger to save someone he didn’t even know existed until the hour prior. They saved each other that night, and something about that made Megumi think some more.
Yuji probably thought Megumi was crazy. Cursed objects? Curses? What normal person would say stuff like that? Yuji trusted him, though. Trusted him enough to save him.
Megumi opened his eyes and turned again to lay on his back and stare at the ceiling. The ridges on said ceiling seemed to form Yuji’s face. Megumi groaned and closed his eyes again. Now all the thoughts that seemed to form were Yuji’s face, most of the time Yuji was looking away and Megumi was staring at him. Megumi didn’t even know he was staring at Yuji. Ever. Then, the thoughts moved to when Yuji said his name. The kind way he said “Fushiguro!” rang in Megumi’s mind. Megumi caught himself smiling like an idiot and clasped his hand over his mouth in realization.
Megumi was in love with Yuji Itadori.
