Chapter Text
Damian spun threw the air, slashing at the villain with his katana. Raven stood beside him, blocking a shard of metal hurtling towards him with her magic. That particular joy was courtesy of a hulking, silver skinned woman roaring at the top of her lungs.
“I could have easily blocked that. There was no need for you to waste your energy.” Damian ‘tsk’ed.
“You also could’ve easily been injured.” Raven snapped back. “What is your problem with help?!”
“I-”
“Would you two kindly either get a room,” A crackling of coms interrupted, “or DO YOUR F*CKING JOB AND HELP US!” Garfield screeched. He and Jaime were cornered, and could barley hold the villains off without seriously hurting them, something neither of them wanted to do. Damian however, had no such reservations. Flipping over their heads, Robin appeared in front of Beast Boy and Blue Beatle, slicing with his swords and nearly severing the arms of the closest, oddly shaped criminals.
The first, a tall, lanky male with shark-like features, laughed as Robins sword simply bounced of his rubbery skin.
“Ha! Silly child. Watch ya’ gonna do? Go crying to your ma-” his voice cut off as his eyes rolled into the back of his head, and floating behind him, green eyes still slightly glowing from using her starbolts, was Starfire.
“Beast Boy, Blue Beatle, with me. Robin, assist Raven.” She ordered, and the three followed her with ease. The battle was quick after that, the rest of the villains disorganised without their leaders. However, there were injuries.
Raven had hit her head after being slapped away like a bug by a massive sludge-like criminal, likely having a concussion. She was helped up by Beast Boy, who had a ripped uniform and slightly grazed stomach, but was otherwise unharmed. Blue Beatle had a gash on his arm, though thankfully it wasn’t to deep. Starfire was mostly unharmed, but there was a small chunk of her hair, already starting to regrow, missing from where a criminal with knives had cut it. Robin, however, had been stabbed in the stomach, and had a slice across his back near his spine. He was helping the others, and hadn’t even realised he was injured until Jaime pointed it out after the bug had scanned him automatically when he had brushed against it, and warned its carrier.
“Hey dude…” Jaime trailed off as he gulped and asked “… are you ok? Your like… more hurt then the rest of us…” he kept trailing off, as if he wasn’t sure how to word his next sentence. Kori and Raven both whipped their heads around, narrowing their eyes at him.
“Robin.” Kori said as gently as she could. “ Are you hiding injury’s again?” Robin glared at her, and folded his arms, wincing slightly when the action jostled his injuries, but not enough for it to be noticeable.
“I am completely operational, no need to worry. I can hand-”
“Damian,” Raven hissed, not as honestly kindhearted as Kori and definitely not as patient when her frie- when Damian was hurt. “I can heal it. Just show me!”
“No.” Robin deadpans. The two bickered for some time, Damian finally agreeing to getting healed when they were back at the tower.
………
*back at the tower*
After ensuring everyone else was healed first, Damian finally agreed to let himself get healed, but only if he and Raven were the only ones in the room and Raven promised to keep her eyes closed. He didn’t want her to freak out if she saw all his scars. The main two being glaringly obvious against his pale skin. There was one cutting diagonallydown his chest in four, evenly spaced claw marks, each starting from a little bit lower on his body, from where he fought a traitor to the league who made his kills with his long, metal nails. Then there was the one from… never mind. The point was, a straight, red scar tissue going from the nape of his neck all the way to the bottom of his spine in a obviously-not-from-fighting-or-training-surgical-precise-line, and would definitely raise some questions that he would not could not answer.
Raven gave him an odd look, but agreed nonetheless. The wound wasn’t that bad, only needing about a minute of healing.
“Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” Raven chanted. There was a long, awkward pause of them both staring at each other. Robin seemed to take that as his queue to leave, about to go out the door before
“Are you sure you’re ok Damian?” The half-demon inquired.
The only answer she got was a glare, as Damian left the room to shower, change, and wash his uniform. The rest of the night was mostly usual, except there were a few worried glances sent his way. Damian was unsure why exactly he was getting those looks, he was wearing long sleeves, long pants, he even made sure to use his make-up to cover the scars on his face!
Still, he sat on the couch next to Garfield and Jamie, crossing his arms and glaring at the screen as the two boys played some game called ‘hell divers’ . Apparently, you have to ‘kill the enemy’s of super earth and defend humanity’ according to Beast Boy, whereas Blue Beatle described it as ‘love democracy, liberty and freedom, hate aliens’.
Damian was definitely NOT confused. At all.
Overall, it was a pretty regular evening, at least until Kori burst into the room, waving something in her hand around and grinning like a maniac.
“WE’RE GOING TO FRANCE!!!!!” She yelled.
Oh no. No. Nononononononono-
“I GOT PLANE TICKETS!!!” While everyone else cheered at the top of their lungs, (except for Raven who cheered quietly as she did not feel like shouting, there was one silent figure, who nobody had noticed had gone even paler then normal. Because in the corner, eternally panicking, Damian al Ghul Wayne, Son of Talia al Ghul and Bruce Wayne, son of Batman, grandson of Ra’s al Guhl, heir to the league of assassins thrown, and the vigilante known as Robin felt his heart drop.

Korand’r was worried about the newest member of her team.
Dick had told her how Damian had had a- less then savoury childhood. Or rather, no childhood at all.
She had thought after they had defeated Ravens father, Lord Trigon, together as a team, that they had all began to trust each other. She had thought Damian had been getting better, trusting them more. But lately had had been going backwards, regressing, curling back into his shell of loneliness and away from their circle of friendliness.
She sighed into the camera, head in her hands as Dick attempted to console and reassure her, to no avail.
“Come on babe, don’t worry! The Baby Bird just gets like that sometimes! He’s not meaning to worry anyone!” He strained, as if the fact that he wasn’t ‘meaning to’ was important. Which it was! Obviously. Just maaaaaaaaaayyyyybe not the most important thing.
“He just, well….. Just give him space. He’ll come around eventually. I’m sure. And if he doesn’t, well.” He paused, as if unsure what to say as they made eye contact through Kori’s slightly separated fingers over her eyes.
“Just give me or the bat a call.”
“But what should I do Dick! I mean, it’s not like I can force him to be friendly with us! Maybe I should try to cheer him up or something! What did I do last time again? Oh right! FUN!!! That got him out of his funk! But what can I do this time…..”
“Ugh…. Maybe keep it on the down-low honey? I mean, you don’t want to overwhelm him or som-” he flailed, trying to convince her not to do anything too extreme, but was cut off when Starfire suddenly sat up, gasping, and exclaimed,
“I know! We’ll catch a flight to somewhere! A nice, relaxing trip after a long flight will be sure to cheer everyone up! I’ll be sure to book the tickets right away!” Dick started to protest, waving his hands in the air, saying how that was a really bad idea! But his cries fell on deaf ears.
“Thanks Dick! You’re the best!” She blew him a kiss, hanging up before he could reply. He was acting really odd at the end there… like a holiday was that bad an idea! Anyway, she quickly looked through her computer, trying to find one of the soonest flights that would still go to some place, ya know, exciting, because no one wants to go on a plane just to end up at a place like Middlethetton or something, not that she’s ever been there, but she’d heard it’s really boring. So where to go…..
.
.
.
Aha! That’s it! They’ll go to France! Long plane ride, beautiful sight and lots of other fun things to do and taste! Oooooooooooo! Like GELATO and BAGUETTE’S!
The rest of the team will be so excited! She quickly printed off the tickets, and ran to the common room where the rest of the titans were sitting around and relaxing.
Raven was reading while meditating in her dark corner, while Beast Boy and Blue Beatle played some game that Kori still didn’t understand, no matter how many times they explained it to her. Damian sat in between them, glaring at the screen and obviously not paying full attention to it.
Starfire wasted no time, telling her team about the trip.
If only she had noticed on member of her team had frozen as she said the second bit. The bit about the plane.
How he stopped moving.
Stopped breathing.
Not daring to move even an inch.
Paling even more then he was naturally.
Emerald eyes widening as they stared at her.
If only she had paid more attention.
She might have been able to cut the disaster at the bud before it had time to bloom.
