Summary:

Companion fic to "Somewhere to Call Home". Roxanne can tell that something has been weighing on Wayne's mind - though she's not sure what, exactly, he could be so anxious about bringing up with them.

Notes:

Okay, so: originally when I wrote Somewhere to Call Home, I imagined that the third part would be a slightly goofy conversation between Wayne, Roxanne and Megamind about Roxanne and Megamind 'moving in', where he psychs himself up to ask only to find out they already thought they'd moved in with him - or that they hadn't considered it, but were happy to make things 'official'.

But I found it hard to write in less than 200 words, and I was really taken with the idea of a 100-200-100 drabble series xD Then I thought, why do I need to show them having a big conversation about it, anyway? What if they just went on with things as unassumingly as they'd always been doing, because they're happy and that's all that matters? This gave rise to the idea of Wayne's conversation with his mother, and I really enjoyed bringing in that perspective and adding detail to Wayne's relationship with Lady Scott.

However, I still also really wanted to write the dramatic conversational build-up, which fits in quite nicely as a "mid-way fic" between parts 2 and 3, so I decided to make it a bonus story :D Originally it was going to be from Wayne's POV consistent with the other fics, but then I thought of telling it from Roxy's amused perspective, and the fic basically wrote itself. It also gave me a chance to address Minion, since I kind of left him out of the original series apart from a brief mention, and I wanted to show that he's on board with the change in Sir's circumstances.

Work Text:

“Got any fives?” Roxanne asks Megamind.

“Fives are ee-vil, Miss R- Roxanne,” Megamind replies. He’s getting better at the name thing. “Proceed to fish.”

Roxanne is pretending she hasn’t noticed Wayne hovering – not literally, although he does that sometimes – for the past ten minutes. At this rate, though, he’ll never spit it out, so she sighs and sets her cards down.

“Wayne. Did you want to ask something?”

“I- n-no! I’m just-” Wayne deflates, and then in a rush, asks, “Willyoumoveinwithme?”

Roxanne can’t help giggling at Megamind’s perplexed expression. “Were those words?” he asks.

This from the man who says ‘Ollo’, she thinks, but with immense fondness.

“Would you. move in. with me. I mean, you’ve both been spending so much time here, and it just-”

Roxanne holds up a hand. “Wayne. I told you I’d given up the lease on my apartment last month.”

“And Minion is enjoying having space to himself in the Lair,” Megamind adds. “We still work on inventions together there.”

Wayne looks from one of them to the other with dawning wonder. They’re both such goobers, Roxanne thinks, but they’re her goobers.

“So... You’ll stay?” Wayne asks, a little choked up.

“We’ll stay,” Roxanne affirms.

Notes:

Me writing this drabble: I can sacrifice other words but it's extremely important that Megamind says "Proceed to fish"
