"dude, come on, it's just people in costumes!" Jasper snickered as Kendrick jumped at every little thing that even slightly scared him. Ryan, Ash and Jasper had pretended to be 12 year olds or something near that to go trick or treating without being told they couldn't get candy, and after, Ryan decided they should go to a late night haunted house. Trevor had decided he was too old for haunted houses and insisted on staying outside instead, Ash had gone ahead in front of the other 3, and nobody knew where Ryan was.
"Costumes or not, how are YOU not scared of someone waving a chainsaw at you?!"
"Cause I know it's fake."
"so do I! but it's a natural REFLEX to be scared of that!"
"I say you're just a wimp."
"I say you're just weird!"
"Ken, you can't SERIOUSLY be scared of a stupid haunted house!" somebody creeped up behind Jasper and put two hands on his shoulders.
"boo."
"EEK!" Jasper jumped and hid on the other side of Kendrick, grabbing the taller friend's hand out of pure instinct.
"HAHAHAHAHA!! you should've seen your face!!! LOSER!! HAHA!!"
"RYAN!" Jasper tried to hit him, but he dodged the swat.
Kendrick sighed. "Ryan, did you know he was gonna react like that?"
"why ELSE would I do it? he's TERRIFIED of ghosts. Besides, it's funny! Did you SEE his face? Priceless."
"Ryan, that's not funny. You shouldn't pick on him."
"Pfft, I wouldn't have scared him that badly if there was ANYTHING else i could tease him about!"
"low blow, Ryan. LOW blow.. I'm never doing truth or dare with you again..." Jasper mumbled.
Ryan walked with the two before disappearing again. Now JASPER was the one getting spooked. He was gripping onto Kendrick's hand like his life depended on it. Kendrick admitted it would be a bit funny if Jasper wasn't obviously terrified of the prank. Ryan could be such a jerk sometimes...
"... Never knew you were that scared of ghosts..."
Jasper had flinched when he'd first heard Kendrick's voice, but he relaxed a bit. Maybe Kendrick could get him to ease up a bit if he distracted him with small talk.
"i don't know why i am... I guess it was just.. A concept introduced to me before i could understand it wasn't real, and it's just maintained it's-"
Two rabbits each put a hand on one of Jasper's shoulders, and one let out a disturbing giggle.
Jasper's face got paler (somehow?? I can't do much with him he's whiter than flour) and he let out a choked squeal.
"dude, you were right! That was priceless!"
"it was even better earlier, he was practically terrified!"
"Ryan! Ash! Leave him alone! You two have some low standards, you know that? If you know someone is terrified of something, you don't do it twice! You're gonna make him cry or something!" Kendrick scolded the two, and the employee for the haunted house that was meant to be scaring them here came out, a bit confused as to why this was the conversation being held. They decided to go back to their station and play clash royale.
Jasper didn't want to be seen as this fragile, wimpy little bitch. That made him sound like a girl. That sure as hell wasn't what he wanted.
"and you two should realize your actions have consequences! If you do that again, I'm not letting you two copy my homework for a week! Do you understand?" Kendrick lectured his two friends like a mother lecturing her children.
"yeah..." the two said in unison.
"let's just find the exit already." Kendrick sighs and walks back to Jasper, who still seemed to be pretty startled. He grabbed Kendrick's hand again as soon as it was in reach.
"Gee, Kendrick, you're SO protective of your boyfriend."
"Ryan, he's not my boyfriend."
"yeah? so you're just roommates?" Ash snickered.
"oh my god, they were ROOMMATES!!!" Ryan said in unison with his shorter friend. They laughed at that for a few minutes, but they eventually stopped.
"speaking of your... 'roommate', how come he hasn't said anything?"
"That's not something I'd know, Ryan, but MAYBE he doesn't WANT to talk, especially with YOU around."
"Or maybe he's just too SCARED!!" Ryan was being annoying on purpose, but Jasper was a bit too focused on his surroundings to notice. Well, he noticed, but it didn't really process as words, and more like background noise. Jasper just wanted to leave and go home and be left alone for a little while.
It took a little while to get to the exit of the house, but when they got out, Trevor wait standing there impatiently.
"WHAT took you four so long? It's been an HOUR!"
"Kendrick was tryna beef with me."
"RYAN was being an asshole." Kendrick grumbled.
"Ryan was bullying people." Ash pointed at Ryan.
"HEY! YOU HELPED!"
"YOU DID WORSE THAN I DID!"
"NUH-UH!"
"YUH-HUH!"
"RYAN! you can't just go around fucking with people! you know, YOU'RE the reason everyone's fighting!" Trevor snapped at him.
"HOW IS THAT MY FAULT?"
"cause YOU'RE the reason we're all roommates and thats why we're all tired of eachother!"
"oh my GOD, why do you ALWAYS BRING THIS UP??"
Kendrick sighed at the two's constant bickering. If these two could just GROW UP, jeez... They act like ten year olds fighting over playground monkey bars...
"maybe... We should... Wait for them in the car, how about that?" Kendrick proposed to the other two, that of which were backing away.
The three walked over to where the car was parked, and Ash attempted to make small talk. "sorry 'bout the prank, jazz..."
"it's OK. It was Ryan's fault anyway."
"we still bros?"
"of course."
"ahem. Gentlemen." Kendrick held the car door open, bowing dramatically. Ash snickered and got in first, followed by Jasper, and then Kendrick.
Jasper yawned. "jeez, what time is it..?" he leaned on Kendrick's shoulder a little bit, obviously tired.
Kendrick chuckled a little bit. "it's, like, 11 at night. "
"oh... I'm tired..." Jasper had always been a little straightforward when or if wasn't trying to scam people (which he did quite a lot), so it was kind of weird when he did act like this, but nobody minded too much. He got a bit more honest and was easier to deal with, so who wouldn't want him to act that way? It wasn't like people necessarily... WANTED him to be a scummy little rascal all the time, but it was kinda a defining point of his personality, so it was kind of off-putting when he wasn't one.
"pfft, I'm not your pillow, Jasper, get off me." It may have seemed like Kendrick was trying to be a bit rude, but he said it lightly, and his tone showed he wasn't trying to be mean.
"yeah, okay." He sat up straight and yawned. "oh. I think they're done fighting."
Ryan opened the door up at the front and attempted to sit in front of the wheel before Trevor pulled him off, and he begrudgingly sat in the passenger seat. The ride home was fairly quiet. Nobody wanted to make Trevor mad, considering he was driving and it wouldn't be the best to get in a car crash this late. When they did get back to the dorms, Ryan had gone up first with his candy and stuff, and Trevor rolled his eyes.
"grab your stuff. all of you. go up there and go to sleep. I don't want to hear jack from any of you."
"I'm sleeping in here." Ash leaned his seat back and kicked his feet up.
"uh.. ok? you two go up then." Kendrick and Jasper got out of the car and headed towards the building.
"dude, is there, like, anything else you're scared of?"
"I don't think i trust any of you enough to confess that."
"you don't trust ME?"
"I trust you the most out of everyone, just.. not enough to tell you that."
"eh. If that's the best reaction I'll get, that's not too bad. You wanna take the elevator or the stairs? or do you wanna race, see who gets up first between stairs or elevator?"
"the stairs will always be faster. whoever has stairs has more time to move than the elevator does, so they get a head start." (insert nerd emoji holy shit)
"... so stairs or elevator?"
"elevator."
they rode up to their floor together and when the door opened, jasper walked out, but what he didnt know was...
ryan was waiting for him around the corner.
"BOO!"
