Chapter Text

Xavier passed by the guards, using his mind control to pass as one of them. “Smiths! Aren't you supposed to be surveying the normal inmates?” One of the guards said to Xavier. “Boss sent me here to discipline.” The professor cringed as he spoke reading the guards mind to find an adequate response. The guard simply smirked before opening the door for the professor. Xavier wheeled down the sterile hallway before meeting a heavy metal door. He used the stolen keycard from earlier and opened the door. As the door pulled itself open with loud screeches, Xavier eyes remained fixed on you.

You kept you’re head down once you heard the door. Once a day they came, twice when you got caught attempting to escape. The scars riddling your back from past lashes always seemed to burn when new ones were to come. Hopefully you were lucky and got the old guard today, he didn’t hesitate like the newbie did. You were confused when the footsteps didn’t come, instead replaced by the squeak of wheels.

The man before you cleared his throat when he caught you staring at his bald head. “ Miss L/N, I’ve been made aware of your talents… and your compromising situationship.” He pauses giving you a sympathetic look you interpreted as pity. You knew how it looked, your back, the cuffs, the bags under your eyes, the prominent view of your ribs. ‘Compromising’ was just a nice way to put it. But curiosity got the best of you.

“I came to offer you freedom, a place where you can use your powers without limitations.” You almost laughed. Freedom? That was a dream you had long forgotten. Yet when you stared into Xavier’s eyes, all you could see was sincerity and the soul of someone who knew exactly how ridiculous he sounded. “I run a school for mutants, people like us who are in need of a home. I offer classes and need teachers who will teach children to control their powers and live the life they deserve.” The man before you looked hopeful and incredibly serious, like he was trying to will you to accept his offer with his mind. “I’m a prisoner. I’ve done horrible things, lost control… hurt people. So why would you want me teaching in your school?” You couldn't help but ask. Xavier looked almost pained as he heard you speak. “Because you my dear, are a good person.”

————————————————————————

You stared at the immense building before you, taking in its massive exterior. No school you had taught at in the past could compare. Gardens with massive trees, and beds of daisies and roses littered the school yard. You could see a beautiful fountain, which was surrounded by a small group of students. You waited nervously as the driver parked near the main entrance, you played with the oversized sweater the professor had given you. He told you he had it teleported once you agreed to come to the school. You enjoyed it’s blue color though it smelled of sulfur which was quite odd.

“We are here dear.” The professor said pulling you from your daydream. As you opened the car door and looked towards the professor wondering if he needed help before being absolutely shocked by the ramp that seemed to appear out on thin air. You stepped out taking in the fresh air and sun you hadn’t experienced in far too long. You made your way to the entrance making sure to drag your feet to soak in every bit of sun you could. You didn’t need a mirror to know you definitely looked like a ghost at the moment. Walking beside the professor and pass a group of girls, you suddenly became self conscious. In the year you spent in prison you hardly cared for looks, you stayed trapped in a cell only allowed to see guards and their whips. Now however, society seemed to remind you of how different things were now.

Finally inside your eyes swept the foyer and the double staircase before you. Eyes locked onto yours, y/c on gold. Suddenly the man got up, while you stayed frozen in place. He seemed to walk towards you, wish you would have noticed if it weren’t for the way you examined him from head to toe. His skin was deep blue and his black hair was swept up and away from his face. He had sharp elf like ears and symbols which littered his skin under deep blue fur. This made him look unusual yet ethereal. He stopped before you reaching for your hands with his six fingers. A toothy grin met your eyes which revealed his sharp fangs. His smile brought a slight flutter from deep inside you, which only worsened when he bowed forward slightly to kiss both your hands. “O-oh!” You gasped unable to stop yourself. That only earned a bigger smile as delight watched over the blue man’s face.

“It is nice to meet you schatz! My name is Kurt Wagner, also known as the spectacular Nightcrawler. I am honored to guide you around the school.” The man you now know as Kurt bows dramatically using his arms to accentuate his words. You looked to professor Xavier for clarity only to be met with a knowing smile. “I have a class to teach this morning and Mr Wagner is free until lunch so this is where we part dear.” Before even finishing his sentence he is halfway down the hallway sending you a wave.

“The professor is a very busy man, he entrusted me to guide and watch over you. However I was not made aware of your name Miss..?” Now that your initial surprise left you could hear his heavy foreign accent. You almost forgot to answer before giving him your name with a slight stutter. He gave you a gentle smile before repeating your name as if he was testing the way it felt on his tongue. You couldn't take your eyes off him as his animated self seemed to draw you in.

You both began walking up the staircase. Having been kept in a cell with little space to stretch your legs made it so going up stairs needed particular concentration. As you stared at your feet with Kurt began small talk.

“Where are you from Miss L/N?” He asked with a gentle voice. “I was born in New York but got sent around the globe to different holding facilities shortly after getting my degree.” You spoke matter of factly, but the silence that followed showed that maybe stretching your legs wasn't the only thing you lacked these past years. “It’s nice to come back home.” You said trying to salvage your social skills. “I can understand that perfectly Miss. My home in Germany is one I dream of constantly.” He spoke with a wistful tone as if remembering his past. A surge of empathy hit you as you imagined what having a home and having to leave it felt like. Maybe that was the nice thing about never settling, you never had the chance to be sad when you left.

Your small talk continued as he shared anecdotes of his life in the circus, only interrupting himself to show you a room or give you important details about the mansion. It was hard to pay attention once you noticed his deep blue, spade tipped tail. It swayed from side to side and seemed to have a mind of its own.

Eventually you both came to a room he called the lab. As he opened the door for you bowing with a “mien dame” he began to explain that you needed a check up which Professor Xavier had requested once seeing your injuries. You were surprised and nervous but that quickly left when you realized those injuries could finally heal. Entering the room you were met with yet another blue furry man. He greeted you with a warm handshake dwarfing your hand in his. He instructed you to lay on your stomach with your sweater rolled up. You were surprised that Kurt stayed in the room, but ultimately didn't care as your most private areas were covered. Silence froze the room as your back was exposed. You knew what it looked like so you expected the worse.

“O-oh!”
