Work Text:

A slight movement, a twitch of the nose.

The slight vibrations from tiny feet bounding on the ground.

The smell of fear. The thrill of the hunt.

The prey who will not escape me.

I am a creature of the night.

Born of the moon,

Made to hunt.

I bound after my prey with all four of my powerful legs.

It tries to guess at my thoughts, and dart from my reach,

But I know how it will move, I smell its desires, see its thoughts

A body built to hunt.

A body built to track.

A body built to kill.

A body built to feast.

That’s what I am, under the glow of the full moon.

My quarry cannot escape me.

I chase it into a corner, until it has nowhere left to run.

No where left to hide.

And all that is left…

Is to pounce!

★

The quietest sound, the faintest tell

The blood running hot as it tries to make its escape.

The smell of ifs fear. The anticipation of a feast!

The prey with whom I toy, until I grow bored.

I am a creature of the night.

Born of the blood,

Made to hunger

I soar towards my prey, floating above the undergrowth,

It tries to escape, to outrun my shadow,

But I have already accounted for its every possible movement.

A body built to hunt.

A body built to play.

A body built to kill.

A body built to feed.

That’s what I am, with a hunger that will never be satisfied.

My quarry will not deny me.

I back it into a corner, it quivers with delicious fear.

There’s no more light for you left in the world.

Now all that’s left…

Is to take what’s mine!

A paw and a cold hand reach for the same rabbit. They brush against each other, their owners both jump back in surprise!

Diana clears her throat. “Oh, Akko, I uhh, didn’t see you there.” she says

Akko blushes and looks away. “Aaa, Diana! I didn’t realise you were after this bunny too.”

“Ah— No, I was not chasing the rabbit just now. I just happened to be going for an evening stroll. Really. You can take it.”

“Ahh well, that’s okay Diana! I was just going for a run, really. Just getting in some exercise! I didn’t want the rabbit at all. Why don’t you take it?”

The two girls avoid each other’s gazes, hoping the neither would see their faces turning red.

“No, that’s quite all right, Akko. I am actually quite full right now. In fact, I have already fed.”

“Wait, but…” Akko leans towards Diana trying to take a look at her face despite her attempts to conceal it. “I don’t see any blood. Are you sure, DIana? You can have the rabbit I really don’t mind.”

“Oh, well, you see, I simply returned to my castle to wash my face and don a fresh set of clothing, before returning to the woods to continue my stroll,” Diana insists.

“Ah, well, I mean, I’m not hungry either way. So you can take it anyway.” Akko’s stomach growls. She growls to play off the sound. “Haha yeah I’m just raring to go, you know? Just wanted to get my steps in while the full moon’s out, you know? Haha…”

The two of them look away, hiding their blushing faces for just a moment longer.

“Wait, where did it go?” asks Akko.

“Where did what go? Asks Diana.

“The Rabbit!”

“The rabbit? Oh no. Where is it?”

The two looked for the rabbit together, but it was long gone. In the end, neither of them could eat the rabbit, and neither of them could conquer their nervousness, either. Maybe one day.
