Work Text:

Minju hadn't noticed her at first.

In her defence, the bar was busy.

Too busy.

Yunah had disappeared to get them drinks a few minutes ago, leaving Minju leaning against the end of their table while everyone else argued over something she had stopped listening to.

She checked her phone.

Nothing.

Typical.

“You look bored.”

Minju looked up.

A girl stood beside her.

Tall. Short dark hair. Black shirt. A few silver rings around her fingers.

Pretty.

Minju smiled.

“Do I?”

“A little.”

“I'm not.”

The girl smiled back.

“Good.”

Minju took another sip of her drink.

She expected that to be it.

It wasn't.

“You here with friends?”

“Yeah.”

“Me too.”

Minju nodded.

The girl stayed.

And somehow, they ended up talking.

She was funny.

Confident, too.

The kind of person who didn't seem to have much trouble talking to strangers.

Minju liked that.

Not liked that.

But she was nice.

“So,” the girl said eventually.

“Can I buy you a drink?”

Minju glanced down at the glass already in her hand.

“I've got one.”

“I meant the next one.”

…

Oh.

Minju looked at her.

The smile.

The way she'd moved slightly closer.

Right.

She was flirting.

Minju opened her mouth.

“I—”

“She’s good.”

Minju stopped.

The girl stopped.

Minju turned.

Yunah.

And—

Oh.

She looked pissed.

Yunah stepped beside her.

One arm slid around Minju's waist.

Firm.

Not her usual looser hold.

Her fingers settled against Minju's hip and stayed there.

Minju looked down.

Then at Yunah.

Yunah wasn't looking at her.

She was staring straight at the girl.

The girl glanced between them.

“Oh.”

Silence.

“Sorry. I didn't realise.”

“Now you do.”

Minju's eyebrows lifted.

Yunah didn't smile.

Didn't blink.

Nothing.

Just stared.

The girl gave a small, awkward laugh.

“Right.”

Her eyes moved back to Minju.

“Still, offer stands.”

Minju blinked.

“I'm good.”

“For later, maybe?”

“She said she’s good.”

Yunah's voice was flatter this time.

The girl looked at her.

Yunah stared back.

Minju pressed her lips together.

Awkward.

“I'll leave you to it.”

“Probably best.”

The girl disappeared into the crowd.

Yunah watched her go.

Minju watched Yunah.

Jaw tight.

Expression hard.

Arm still firmly around her waist.

…

Interesting.

“Are you okay?”

“Fine.”

“You look angry.”

“I'm not.”

Minju looked down at the hand gripping her hip.

Then back up.

Yunah finally looked at her.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Why are you smiling?”

“I’m not.”

“You are.”

Minju's smile widened.

Yunah frowned.

Then her eyes shifted past Minju.

Back across the room.

Her expression hardened again.

Minju followed her gaze.

The girl.

She'd looked over.

Only for a second.

Because the second she caught Yunah staring back, she turned away.

Minju laughed.

Yunah looked down at her.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Minju.”

“I think you scared her.”

Yunah looked back across the room.

“Good.”

Minju's laughter stopped.

…

Oh.

Yunah took a sip of her drink.

Like she hadn't just said anything at all.

Minju stared at her.

The tight jaw.

The arm around her.

The way Yunah had apparently decided that anyone looking in Minju's general direction was now a personal enemy.

She should probably tell her to relax.

Instead, Minju moved a little closer.

Yunah's arm tightened automatically.

Minju let it.

…

That was interesting too.

…

Minju eventually turned her attention back to the table.

Or tried to.

Yunah's arm was still around her.

Firmly.

Apparently it lived there now.

Minju wasn't complaining.

Someone said something that made the table laugh.

Minju laughed too.

Yunah didn't.

Minju glanced at her.

She was staring across the room again.

…

Seriously?

“Yunah.”

Nothing.

“Yunah.”

“What?”

“You're doing it again.”

“Doing what?”

Minju followed her gaze.

The girl was looking over again.

Minju shrugged.

“Ignore her.”

Yunah's fingers tightened against her hip.

“I'm trying.”

“You're doing a terrible job.”

Yunah didn't answer.

Because the girl wasn't just looking.

Minju hadn't noticed.

Of course she hadn't.

But Yunah had.

The way her eyes lingered.

Minju's face.

Lower.

Lower still.

Slowly.

Shamelessly.

Before eventually finding their way back up.

Yunah felt her stomach turn.

Fucking creep.

Minju was still talking.

Completely oblivious.

Yunah barely heard her.

The girl caught her staring.

And smirked.

…

Oh, fuck off.

Yunah looked away.

Fine.

She could watch.

Yunah's hand moved from Minju's hip, sliding more securely around her waist.

She pulled her closer.

Minju went willingly.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“You keep saying that.”

Yunah took another sip of her drink.

“Because nothing's wrong.”

Minju hummed.

Clearly unconvinced.

Yunah ignored her.

Mostly.

Her eyes flicked across the room.

The girl was still watching.

…

Yunah leaned down and kissed Minju's cheek.

Minju paused.

Looked at her.

Yunah smiled innocently.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Yunah narrowed her eyes.

Minju's mouth twitched.

…

Fine.

Yunah kissed her again.

This time, closer to the corner of her mouth.

Minju's smile disappeared.

Just for a second.

Yunah noticed.

Interesting.

Minju turned towards her.

“What are you doing?”

“Kissing you.”

“You've kissed me three times in about two minutes.”

“Do you want me to stop?”

…

Minju looked at her.

Then at the arm around her waist.

“No.”

Yunah's eyebrows lifted.

“Okay.”

Her arm tightened.

Minju swallowed.

Fuck.

Maybe it was the way Yunah was looking at her.

Maybe it was the hand still firm against her waist.

Maybe Minju had simply lost her mind.

Whatever.

She reached for the front of Yunah's shirt.

And pulled.

Yunah stumbled half a step closer.

“What-”

Minju kissed her.

Yunah went quiet.

Very quiet.

Minju smiled.

Yunah kissed her back.

Her hand tightened again.

Minju let go of her shirt eventually.

Yunah didn't move away.

“What was that for?”

“Do I need a reason?”

Yunah stared at her.

“…No.”

“Good.”

Minju turned back towards the table.

Yunah stayed exactly where she was.

For a second.

Then she remembered.

Her eyes lifted.

Across the room.

…

The girl was still there.

Still watching.

Except she wasn't smiling anymore.

Their eyes met.

Yunah raised an eyebrow.

The girl looked away.

Better.

Yunah turned her attention back to the table.

Finally.

Minju glanced at her.

“Happy now?”

“I was already happy.”

“Right.”

Yunah ignored her.

Minju smiled into her drink.

…

A few minutes passed.

Yunah looked across the room again.

She couldn't help it.

Nothing.

Her eyes moved through the crowd.

No short dark hair.

No black shirt.

No smug fucking smile.

Gone.

Good.

Yunah felt something in her shoulders loosen.

“Oh my God.”

Yunah looked down.

Minju was staring at her.

“What?”

“You actually relaxed.”

“I was relaxed.”

Minju looked pointedly at the arm still wrapped around her waist.

“Sure.”

Yunah loosened it.

Minju immediately caught her wrist.

Yunah stopped.

…

Minju put her arm back.

Yunah looked at her.

Minju took a sip of her drink.

“I didn't say you had to move.”

Oh.

Yunah looked at her.

Really looked at her.

Then she smiled.

“You're enjoying this?”

Minju blinked.

“What?”

“This.”

Yunah's arm tightened around her waist.

“Me being jealous?”

Minju rolled her eyes.

“I'm not enjoying anything.”

“No?”

“No.”

Yunah’s eyebrow raised.

Clearly unconvinced.

Then she leaned closer.

Minju expected another kiss.

She didn't get one.

Yunah's mouth stopped beside her ear instead.

“Then why'd you put my arm back?”

Minju went completely still.

Yunah pulled away.

Slowly.

Looking unbearably pleased with herself.

Minju stared at her.

Wow.

She was hot.

That was deeply inconvenient.

Yunah was still watching her.

Minju cleared her throat.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

That smile again.

Minju narrowed her eyes.

“Stop.”

“I'm not doing anything.”

Then, before Minju could say anything, she reached up.

Tucked a loose strand of hair behind Minju's ear.

Slowly.

Her fingers lingered against her cheek.

Minju forgot what she'd been about to say.

Yunah noticed.

Her smile softened into something considerably more dangerous.

“You okay?”

Minju stared at her.

“Perfect.”

“You look warm.”

Oh, fuck her.

Yunah's thumb brushed once against her cheek.

Then she leaned in.

Minju's breath caught.

Again.

Apparently she'd stopped having any control over that.

Yunah's lips brushed her cheek.

Barely.

And then she pulled away.

Minju stared.

Yunah took another sip of her drink.

Completely normal.

…

Minju was going to combust.

Any second now.

Just…

Up in flames.

Yunah glanced at her.

“I'm going to the bathroom.”

What?

“Okay.”

“You sure you'll survive?”

Minju's eyes narrowed.

“Go.”

Yunah laughed.

She gave Minju's waist one last squeeze before finally letting go.

Yunah disappeared into the crowd.

Minju exhaled.

Finally.

Maybe now she could get herself together.

She reached for her drink.

“Having fun?”

…

Minju's hand stopped.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

The girl was standing beside her again.

“You're still here?”

“You noticed.”

“I thought you left.”

“Was waiting for a better opportunity.”

Minju frowned.

“Opportunity?”

The girl glanced in the direction Yunah had disappeared.

“She's gone.”

“She's in the bathroom.”

“Same difference.”

“Not really.”

The girl smiled.

Then stepped closer.

Minju shifted back.

Barely.

The girl seemed to take that as an invitation to follow.

“So,” she said. “That drink.”

“No.”

“You didn't even think about it.”

“I already did.”

“For about two seconds.”

“It didn't require much thought.”

The girl laughed.

Minju didn't.

“One drink.”

“No.”

“One dance.”

“No.”

“Your number?”

“No.”

Another step.

Minju stepped back again.

Her hip met the edge of the table.

Right.

Nowhere else to go.

The girl stopped in front of her.

Too close.

“Can you back up?”

The girl glanced between them.

“I'm not touching you.”

“I didn't say you were.”

“Then what's the problem?”

“You're in my space.”

The girl smiled.

But she didn't move.

Oh.

Minju didn't like that.

At all.

“Relax.”

“I'm perfectly relaxed.”

“You don't look it.”

“Probably because I've asked you to leave me alone.”

The girl's eyes dropped.

Minju saw it this time.

Her face.

Her chest.

Lower.

Slowly.

Before dragging their way back up.

Minju's stomach turned.

Oh.

She suddenly understood.

Yunah had seen that.

From across the room.

Probably more than once.

“Don't.”

The girl raised an eyebrow.

“Don't what?”

“Look at me like that.”

“Like what?”

Seriously?

Minju pushed herself away from the table.

The girl shifted with her.

Blocking the easiest way past.

Minju stared at her.

“Move.”

“I'm talking to you.”

“I'm done talking.”

“Come on.”

“Move.”

The girl's smile faded.

“Jesus. Does your girlfriend always decide who you can talk to?”

Minju's expression hardened.

“She doesn't decide anything for me.”

“Could've fooled me.”

“This has nothing to do with her.”

“Sure.”

“I'm not interested.”

Nothing.

“I've told you that already.”

The girl shrugged.

“People change their minds.”

“I'm not going to.”

“How do you know?”

Minju stared at her.

What the fuck?

“Move.”

“You're seriously not even going to give me a chance?”

“No.”

“Why?”

Minju's patience snapped.

“Because I don't fucking want to.”

The girl blinked.

“Is that clear enough?”

Silence.

“Move.”

This time, she did.

Minju stepped past her.

She didn't look back.

Fucking hell.

She picked up her drink.

Her hand wasn't shaking.

Good.

She wasn't scared.

Just…

Uncomfortable.

Annoyed.

Thoroughly fucking creeped out.

Minju took a sip.

Yunah had been right.

That was unfortunate.

She was never going to hear the end of it.

Minju glanced across the room.

The girl had gone back to wherever she'd been standing before.

She was looking at her again.

Minju's stomach turned.

She looked away.

“Hey.”

Minju jumped.

“Jesus Christ.”

Yunah stopped beside her.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Yunah frowned.

Minju reached for her automatically.

Yunah noticed.

Her expression changed.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

Yunah's eyes moved past her.

Across the room.

Minju didn't need to look.

She knew exactly where they'd landed.

Yunah went still.

“Was it her?”

Minju tightened her fingers around Yunah's hand.

“It's fine.”

Yunah looked back at her.

“Minju.”

A beat.

“What did she do?”

Minju exhaled.

“She came back.”

Yunah's expression changed.

“When?”

“After you left.”

“She waited until I left?”

Yunah looked across the room again.

Her jaw tightened.

“What did she want?”

“Same thing.”

“You said no.”

“Several times.”

Yunah's eyes snapped back to her.

“Several?”

“Drinks. Dancing. My number.”

Silence.

“I said no to all of them.”

Yunah stared at her.

“And she kept asking?”

“Yes.”

Yunah's fingers tightened around hers.

“What else?”

Minju hesitated.

That was apparently enough.

“Minju.”

“She was just being weird.”

“What does that mean?”

“She got too close.”

Yunah's face went blank.

Ah.

There it was.

“How close?”

“Yunah.”

“How close, Minju?”

Minju glanced at the table behind her.

Yunah followed her eyes.

Looked at the edge of it.

Then back at Minju.

Her jaw flexed.

“Did she touch you?”

“No.”

Something in Yunah loosened.

Barely.

“I told her to move. She eventually did.”

“Eventually.”

“Yes.”

A beat.

“I handled it.”

“I know you did.”

Immediate.

No hesitation.

Yunah squeezed her hand.

“Doesn't mean you have to pretend it didn't bother you.”

Minju looked down.

“She was just fucking creepy.”

“Yeah.”

“The way she was looking at me…”

Yunah's jaw tightened.

Minju swallowed.

“It made me feel sick.”

“Me too.”

Minju looked up.

Yunah wasn't looking at the girl.

She was looking at her.

“You saw it?”

“Yeah.”

“Before?”

Yunah nodded.

Oh.

Minju thought back.

Every time Yunah's attention had drifted across the room.

Every glare.

Every tightening of her hand against Minju's waist.

Right.

“That's why you kept staring.”

Yunah's mouth tightened.

“Partly.”

Minju stared at her.

“Partly?”

“I was still jealous.”

Despite herself, Minju laughed.

Yunah frowned.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“You're laughing at me.”

“A little bit.”

Yunah rolled her eyes.

But Minju felt some of the tightness in her chest ease.

Just a little.

Minju squeezed her hand.

“I just want to forget about it now.”

Yunah was quiet.

“Okay.”

Minju looked at her suspiciously.

“Okay?”

“You want to forget about it.”

Her eyes flicked across the room again.

“So we'll forget about it.”

Somehow, Minju didn't find that reassuring.

Yunah looked back at her.

“Come here.”

Minju didn't need telling twice.

She stepped closer.

Yunah's arm went around her waist.

Firm.

Familiar.

Minju exhaled.

Better.

“You okay?”

“Yeah.”

Yunah studied her for another second.

“Sure?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

Minju rested her head against her shoulder.

Yunah pressed a kiss into her hair.

And that was that.

Mostly.

They weren't going to let some weirdo ruin their night.

So they didn't.

…

Someone bought another round.

Minju drank more than she probably should have.

Yunah definitely did.

They danced.

Badly.

Minju blamed the alcohol.

Yunah blamed Minju.

They kissed.

A few times.

Maybe more than a few.

Minju didn't complain.

Obviously.

Things went back to normal.

Almost.

For a while, Yunah's attention still wandered.

Minju would feel her arm tighten.

Her jaw would set.

And she'd know.

The girl was still there.

But eventually, even that stopped.

Another drink appeared.

Then another.

The music got louder.

Someone dragged them onto the dance floor.

And somewhere between Yunah nearly spilling her drink and Minju laughing so hard her stomach hurt…

They forgot about her.

Both of them.

…

Yunah caught Minju's hand.

“Come here.”

Minju rolled her eyes.

But she went.

Yunah smiled.

Her hands settled around Minju's waist.

Minju's arms found their way around her neck.

“You're drunk.”

“So are you.”

“Less than you.”

“Debatable.”

“You almost fell over ten seconds ago.”

“Someone pushed me.”

“No one touched you.”

Yunah frowned.

“The floor moved.”

Minju laughed.

“Right.”

“It did.”

“Of course.”

Yunah pulled her closer.

“You're mean.”

“And yet.”

“And yet what?”

Minju kissed her.

Yunah apparently accepted that as an apology.

Her arms tightened around Minju's waist.

Minju smiled against her mouth.

The music was too loud.

The bar was too warm.

Yunah's hair kept getting in Minju's face.

She didn't care.

Yunah kissed her again.

Minju let her.

And when they eventually pulled apart, Yunah was smiling.

Properly this time.

No tight jaw.

No glaring.

No girl across the room.

Just Yunah.

Much better.

…

“Do you have a problem?”

Yunah's smile disappeared.

Minju froze.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

The girl stood a few feet away.

Looking directly at Yunah.

Yunah stared at her.

“No.”

A beat.

“Do you?”

“You've been staring at me all night.”

Yunah's eyebrows lifted.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“What do you want me to say?”

“All the staring. This shit.”

She gestured between them.

Yunah glanced down.

At Minju's arms around her neck.

Then at her own hands around Minju's waist.

Then back at the girl.

“What shit?”

“Trying to make me jealous.”

Minju blinked.

Yunah blinked.

Silence.

Surely not.

“What?”

“You heard me.”

Yunah stared at her for another second.

Then laughed.

“You're not that special, honey.”

Minju pressed her lips together.

Oh, God.

“What's funny?”

“Nothing.”

Yunah was still smiling.

That probably wasn't good.

“You think I spent the last half hour trying to make you jealous?”

“You've been all over her.”

Yunah's smile disappeared.

“She's my girlfriend.”

Well.

There was that.

“I tend to be all over her.”

Minju's eyebrows lifted.

The girl stepped closer.

“You think you're intimidating?”

Yunah finally let go of Minju.

Minju immediately knew that was bad.

Yunah looked at her.

Then stepped forward.

“You walked over to me.”

The girl scoffed.

“Because you've been glaring at me all fucking night.”

“You've been tryna flirt with my girlfriend all fucking night.”

“We were talking.”

Yunah laughed.

Once.

Cold.

“Right.”

“She can speak for herself.”

“She did.”

…

The girl went quiet.

Yunah took another step closer.

“She told you she had a girlfriend.”

Nothing.

“She told you she wasn’t interested.”

A beat.

“And yet, you kept trying anyway.”

The girl's face tightened.

“I wasn't—”

“Yeah. You were.”

Yunah didn't raise her voice.

Somehow, that made it worse.

The girl's eyes shifted to Minju.

“She tell you that?”

“Don't even fucking look at her.”

Minju's breath caught.

The girl looked back at Yunah.

“Jesus Christ.”

She laughed.

“You hear yourself?”

Yunah said nothing.

“You've been hanging off her all night. Glaring at anyone who comes near her. Now I can't even fucking look at her?”

“Not the way you do.”

The girl's expression hardened.

“You don't own her.”

Yunah laughed.

“Never said I did.”

“Could've fooled me.”

“And yet somehow you're the one who can't take no for an answer.”

The girl's smile disappeared.

There.

Yunah saw it.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Yunah tilted her head.

“Just funny.”

“What's funny?”

“You.”

Minju swallowed.

Oh, God.

“You walk over here because you think I've been trying to make you jealous?”

Yunah almost laughed again.

“You think me kissing my own girlfriend has something to do with you?”

Nothing.

“She turns you down over and over and you still somehow convince yourself she's interested?”

The girl's jaw tightened.

“And now you're standing here trying to convince me I'm the problem because your ego can't handle the fact that she doesn't fucking want you?”

Oh.

That one landed.

The girl's face hardened.

“Fuck you.”

Yunah clapped.

“Good comeback.”

“You think you're fucking special because she's with you?”

Yunah's smile disappeared.

“No.”

A beat.

“I think I'm lucky because she's with me.”

Minju blinked.

Oh.

Yunah's eyes stayed on the girl.

“There's a difference.”

Silence.

“And unlike you, I don't need to convince myself she wants me.”

Fuck.

The girl's jaw clenched.

Yunah tilted her head.

“Maybe find your own girl instead of going after mine, yeah?”

Silence.

The girl stared at her.

Yunah stared back.

Minju could practically see the girl's patience disappearing.

Apparently, humiliation hadn't improved her decision-making.

Because instead of walking away like any reasonable person…

She stepped forward.

Right into Yunah’s space.

The girl squared her shoulders.

Yunah didn't move.

Not an inch.

She looked down.

At the barely-there space between them.

Then slowly back up.

Her eyebrows lifted.

“You like getting in people's space, don't you?”

Minju almost laughed.

The girl did not.

“Think you're fucking funny?”

“A little.”

“Yunah.”

Minju's warning went completely ignored.

Fantastic.

The girl stepped even closer.

Yunah still didn't move.

Didn't flinch.

Didn't even blink.

Fuck.

Minju really, really needed her girlfriend to stop being hot for approximately five minutes.

“What?” Yunah asked.

Quiet.

Almost bored.

“You got something else you wanna say?”

The girl's jaw clenched.

Nothing.

Yunah waited.

Still nothing.

“That's what I thought.”

The girl somehow got closer.

“You better watch yourself.”

Yunah stared at her.

“Why?”

The girl blinked.

Minju actually had to look away.

Jesus Christ.

“You think I'm joking?”

“I think you walked over here.”

Yunah's voice stayed flat.

“Started an argument.”

A beat.

“Didn't like how it went.”

Another.

“And now you're standing in my face.”

Yunah tilted her head.

“So I'm not really sure what you want from me.”

Right.

Enough.

Minju caught Yunah's wrist.

Pulled.

Yunah didn't move.

Of course she didn't.

“Yunah.”

Nothing.

Minju pulled again.

“Yunah.”

Yunah finally looked at her.

Minju raised her eyebrows.

Enough.

…

Something in Yunah's expression softened.

Barely.

But she stepped back.

“Come on.”

Minju pulled her away.

Yunah followed.

For approximately three steps.

Then Minju realised she was walking backwards.

Still staring at the girl.

“Turn around.”

“I am.”

“Yunah.”

Yunah turned around.

Minju sighed.

Fucking ridiculous.

But still hot.

…

They said their goodbyes.

Quickly.

Minju wasn't particularly interested in explaining why they were leaving.

And Yunah—

Well.

Yunah was still pissed.

Very pissed.

She didn't say much as they made their way outside.

Just took Minju's hand.

Held it tightly.

And didn't let go until their taxi pulled up.

The cold air should've helped.

It didn't.

If anything, Yunah somehow looked more annoyed now.

“You good?”

Yunah looked at her.

“Yeah.”

“You sure?”

“I'm fine.”

Minju raised an eyebrow.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

The taxi stopped in front of them.

“Come on.”

Yunah opened the back door.

Tossed her jacket inside.

Then stood back.

Waiting.

Yunah gestured towards the car.

“Get in.”

There it was again.

That tone.

Something fluttered low in Minju's stomach.

“I can open my own door.”

“I know.”

“And get into a car by myself.”

“Very impressive.”

Minju pressed her lips together.

Yunah stared at her.

“Get in, Minju.”

The flutter happened again.

Worse this time.

Minju really needed her to stop doing that.

She got in.

Immediately.

Yunah waited until she was settled.

Then shut the door.

Minju watched through the window as she walked around the back of the car.

Hands shoved into her pockets.

Jaw still tight.

Shoulders squared.

…

Jesus Christ.

This was getting embarrassing.

The other door opened.

Yunah climbed in.

Minju shifted slightly.

Expecting her to take the empty seat by the opposite window.

She didn't.

Yunah dropped into the middle.

Right beside her.

Minju looked at the empty seat.

Then at Yunah.

Nothing.

Apparently personal space was no longer something they believed in.

Fine.

Yunah leaned forward.

Legs spread.

Forearms resting against them.

Hands loosely clasped between her knees.

She stared at the floor for approximately two seconds.

Then—

“What a fucking idiot.”

Minju pressed her lips together.

“Yunah.”

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“No, what?”

“We're in the taxi.”

“I know where we are.”

“Just checking.”

Yunah scoffed.

“Fucking comes over to me.”

Minju looked at her.

“Starts shit with me.”

Yunah shook her head.

“Gets in my face.”

Minju should've been listening.

Really.

She should have.

Instead, her attention had become unfortunately stuck elsewhere.

The way Yunah was sitting.

The slight rise and fall of her shoulders.

Her hands hanging loosely between her knees.

The veins in her arms.

“And then she fucking—”

Minju reached over.

Slipped her fingers into the hair at the back of Yunah's head.

Yunah stopped.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Minju scratched gently.

Yunah stared at her.

Then sighed.

Her shoulders dropped.

Minju smiled.

“Come here.”

Yunah rolled her eyes.

But she moved.

Leaned into Minju.

Head against her shoulder.

Minju wrapped an arm around her.

Ran her fingers through her hair.

“Still angry?”

“Yes.”

“Aw.”

Yunah went still.

Minju's mouth twitched.

“Poor baby.”

“Minju.”

She smoothed Yunah's hair.

“So brave.”

Yunah lifted her head.

“Fuck off.”

Minju laughed.

“You were.”

“Shut up.”

“So scary.”

“I'm warning you.”

“While cuddling me?”

Yunah stared at her.

Minju stared back.

Then Yunah cracked.

Minju did too.

“You're such an asshole.”

“Feeling better?”

Yunah dropped her head back onto Minju's shoulder.

“No.”

Minju smiled into her hair.

Liar.

For a minute, Yunah was quiet.

Settled against her.

Minju's fingers moved lazily through her hair.

Her shoulders had finally relaxed.

Her breathing evened out.

There.

Much better.

Then…

“No, but seriously.”

Minju closed her eyes.

Oh my God.

Yunah sat up.

“Who the fuck did she think she was?”

Minju laughed.

“Yunah.”

“I'm serious.”

“I know you are.”

“Coming over like that.”

Yunah shook her head.

“Getting in my face.”

“Mm.”

“After everything she already did.”

Minju rubbed her arm.

“It's over.”

“I know.”

A beat.

“But flirting with my girlfriend?”

Minju's mouth twitched.

There it was.

“Your girlfriend?”

Yunah looked at her.

“Yes.”

Her arm went around Minju's waist.

Pulled her closer.

“Mine.”

…

Minju smiled.

Fuck.

She actually smiled.

Heat crept into her cheeks.

Yunah's eyes narrowed.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“You liked that.”

“Shut up.”

Yunah stared at her.

Minju could still feel the smile threatening.

Apparently Yunah could see it too.

Her eyes dropped to Minju's mouth.

And then she kissed her.

No warning.

No hesitation.

Just—

Yunah's hand tightened at her waist and pulled her in.

Minju's breath caught.

Then her fingers were in Yunah's shirt.

Pulling her closer too.

Yunah kissed her again.

Quick.

Hungry.

Still carrying the last of whatever adrenaline had been running through her all night.

Minju met her just as eagerly.

Because apparently this was what they were doing now.

Fine.

More than fine.

Yunah pulled back for barely a second.

Minju followed without thinking.

Yunah smiled.

Minju immediately knew she'd made a mistake.

Another kiss.

Then another.

Somewhere between them, Minju laughed softly.

“What?” Yunah breathed.

“Nothing.”

Yunah kissed her again before she could say anything else.

The last of Yunah's anger hadn't disappeared.

Minju could feel it.

In the restless energy still running through her.

The way she kept pulling Minju closer.

Like close apparently wasn't close enough.

Minju wasn't exactly objecting.

Her hand slipped into Yunah's hair.

Yunah's hand moved from her waist and settled against Minju's thigh.

Oh.

Minju's breath caught.

Yunah pulled back.

Barely.

Their faces still close.

Both of them breathing a little harder than before.

Yunah looked at her.

Minju looked back.

There was something unfair about how good she looked right now.

Flushed.

Hair messy again.

Eyes still carrying the last remnants of that look from earlier.

Minju pulled her back in.

Yunah made a quiet sound of surprise against her mouth.

Good.

Her hand tightened slightly against Minju's thigh.

Minju shifted closer.

Yunah kissed her again.

And—

“Uhm.”

Nothing.

“Ladies?”

Minju froze.

Yunah froze.

Silence.

Minju opened her eyes.

Yunah was staring back at her.

Oh.

Oh, fuck.

Taxi.

Driver.

Public.

Minju pulled away so quickly she nearly hit the window.

“Sorry!”

Yunah blinked.

“We're here.”

Minju looked out the window.

Their house.

Right there.

“Oh my God. I'm so sorry.”

Beside her, Yunah started fixing her shirt.

Completely unbothered.

“Sorry,” Minju said again.

“We didn't realise we'd— sorry.”

Yunah looked at her.

“Minju.”

“What?”

“Stop apologising.”

“You stop not apologising.”

Yunah looked towards the front.

“Sorry.”

Minju stared at her.

Unbelievable.

“Thank you,” Minju said quickly to the driver.

“Sorry again.”

“Minju.”

“I'm getting out.”

She fumbled with the seatbelt.

Once.

Twice.

“Why won't this fucking—”

Click.

“Got it.”

Yunah was biting her lip now.

Minju opened the door.

Climbed out.

And heard Yunah laugh before she'd even shut it.

That only made it worse.

Yunah stumbled out after her.

The taxi pulled away.

Minju’s face was crumpled in her palms.

“There was another person in the car!”

“I know.”

“We forgot!”

Yunah finally lost it.

Minju stared at her.

Tried very hard to remain offended.

It lasted approximately three seconds.

Then she started laughing too.

“Oh my God.”

Yunah grabbed her hand.

“Come on.”

“I can never get in a taxi again.”

“Bit dramatic.”

“I'm deleting the app!”

Yunah laughed harder.

Minju shoved her.

“This is your fault!”

“You pulled me back in!”

Minju's mouth snapped shut.

Yunah's eyebrows lifted.

“Exactly.”

“Shut up.”

“Thought so.”

They made it approximately halfway to the front door before they were both laughing too hard to walk properly.
