CHAPTER 1
In a laboratory on the outskirts of a quiet town Doctor Frankenstein was in the middle of his latest project of a reanimated specimen, that he had worked on tirelessly for a year. His goal was bring it to life and just as he about the flick the switch smoke slowly appeared throughout his laboratory, then a flash that blew the doctor across the room. He looked up to see if his specimen was still intake and he sighed in relief, he brushed the dust of his clothes only to discover a tall, pale man with golden eyes appeared within the smoke.
The smile on the stranger sent shivers down the doctors spine" who are you? What are you doing in my lab?" He grabbed the nearest object he could find which was a hammer but the man put up his hands as a sign he was unarmed." Wow calm down I'm just hear to reason with you, what your about to do is unethical and there will repercussions that you really don't want to get into" he kept the hammer firmly in his hand."how dare you this is my experiment and I have right to do this as much as anyone else, I'm a scientist I'm trying to make and to prove something so profound".
"Oh please stop with all that bullshit stop I don't want to hear it, look I'm just here to give you an option.....I mean you could still go ahead with experiment if you want but I'm just telling you that you shouldn't. You don't realise what is going to happen, how it will change the world for the worse rather than the better." he stepped back, "my creation wouldn't harm anyone no definitely not"." Did you even think about what your really doing?" he stepped closer."Yes ofcourse I have I've been working on this for over a year and have been researching this for a lot longer". He man shaked his head" No no I don't mean the scientific or ethical aspects but the concept of evolution through a reanimated corpse. You are deliberately manipulating the proper order and this will have serious consequences."the doctor put the hammer down crossed his arms ready to hear out this madman theory.
"What do you mean consequences and this has nothing to do with evolution, what do you even mean?" he pointed to his experiment. " It does, your creating a new species of life," "A new Species, its just one experiment",he squeaked "it's not just another experiment , NO you are creating a sentient being that hasn't directly been created within the natural order. Now the doctor was furious at this point so he demanded to know who this man and what his real purpose was in coming into his laboratory. The man took a seat " well I go by many names but the one I like most is the Negotiator and I feel it describes my profession best," the doctor then to sit" the Negotiator? What do you negotiate then?" the man shuffled in his seat." Its what I do I mean when people like yourself try to mess with the proper order of things I have to step in and have to intervene".
"Do you like your job,?" he asked" uummm yea I've being doing this for millenia now it's rewarding enough but that's beside the point are you trying to distract me" he pointed at the doctor who replied with an offended tone." I wasn't doing that but now that you are here try an convince me as it is your job." He adjusted a cushion from his back" very astute of you I must say but how much research have you done, I mean I've seen your inventions you are quite a genius but this" he point back up to the experiment," this is a waste of your talent and will destroy your career." " So have you encountered this type of thing before?" the doctor questioned him.
"Yes I have, it always ends up badly so I try to intervene to stop it happening again" lucifer eyes light up" oohh so do you travel to different times then?" he walked over to a small kitchenette by the door." Oh I travel through space and time, different dimensions" the doctor began making tea" sounds like a fascinating job would you like some tea?" " Ohhh don't try an distract me" the man raised an eyebrow then nodded. The doctor took this as a yes for tea." I'm not distracting you" as he poured the tea into a cup. " Have you taken into consideration that when that" he pointed upwards" my experiment" nodded the doctor "Yes your experiment is successful you do realise that it will have the mind of a newborn not an adult".
"Why would you say that?"he handed the man his tea. "The human brain is a very complex,in your era there isnt enough knowledge accumulated into the true workings of the mind.Therefore your creature will be like a child in an adults body." Lucifer took his seat and sighed" does that mean I would have to educate the creature?". The man sipped the tea " Correct!" answered the man. "I mean this creature will need to learn from scratch and you maybe a doctor or scientist but you have no idea about child psychology, the concept of nature over nuture. It will go back to its factory setting,"whats a factory setting?" The negotiator sighed," aahh damn you don't use that word here uuumm like a reset yeah a reset!". "Uumm that's an interesting hypothesis " mused the doctor." Its not a HYPOTHESIS it's a FACT!!" The doctor started taking notes seriously and was now mumbling to himself.The man rolled his eyes, this wasn't the first or last time he had seen this curious behaviour so he ignored the doctors ramblings.
"Then there is the issue about the different body parts your using, I mean I really am impressed by how human this creature looks" uummm the doctor was engrossed." I assume these are different body part and not one whole corpse?" he tilted his head awaiting his reply." Oh yes it's different body parts I had tried a full corpses but it didn't work.....it was interesting though would you care to see my findings?" The doctor stood up and walked to his desk," why yes I would but maybe later",the doctor left his leather cladded book on his desk. He explained how he was always surprised by humans inventions, it kept him entertained but some of it gets repetitive and that's when he must intervene. It seems that humans suffer from short term memories thats makes them keep repeating past mistakes but the results can turn out differently so he only intervenes when necessary." I burst their bubble, actually have been called the bubble man before" he smiled," hahaha I think they should have called you the bubblebuster instead" they were both in hysterics at this point so the doctor opened up a tin of biscuits to lighten the mood.
Uumm theses biscuits are delicious" his eyes lit up," thank you I made them myself"blushed the doctor." Really may I have some more?" he reached out for more when the doctor handed him a small plate for his biscuits and poured more tea, a little table had appeared from nowhere as they settled into their chairs." I mean to say that with the other body parts they might retain muscle memories like killing for example" the doctor laughed." Oh please that has not been proven and even so the what are the chances that my creature would..." he trailed of when it dawned on him that the chances were high as many of his cadavers were from criminals, they were usually just thieves that he felt deserved a second chance if they even matched up to his standards. He started mumbling to himself trying to remember specific details when the Negotiator clear his throat.
" What do you put in these biscuits? there so addictive....you will make a great husband someday" trying to steer the doctors mind back to the present, the doctor looked stunned then clumsily said that no-one had ever said that to him before, said he should be more masculine instead of feminine. The negotiator was stunned by this attitude but had to remember that in this timeline the world had very different mindsets about gender. He sighed but argued that these fixed mindsets would have a huge effect on his creature as its not really human so you've created something that could cause damaging affects for you and your creation." The doctor stood up arms crossed and turned his back to him," I don't want to be alone anymore but everytime I try to connect with someone they always have a hidden agenda, whether it's because of my family name, genius or just plain spite I have no one on my side that I can trust" silent tears rolled down his face." Someone with no hidden agenda and can travel the world learning new things together, is that so wrong?"
"Well you could just start a family instead of this" he pointed to the creature" No its not the same I want aahhh you will never understand but just know I have no evil intentions" he walked back to his experiment pulling on his gloves and goggles muttering to himself tear streaks could be seen on his face." I'm not getting through to you so I'll change my approach " the doctor raised his eye brows in disbelief. He described another timeline identical to this as he pointed out the similarities but he had to admit that his creature wasn't as grotesque as the other timeline. Or the fact that the doctor in this timeline was known for making great medical discoveries that helped thousands of people worldwide,the Negotiator then realised that there was no real similarities between the two timeline. He recounted another timeline when the best threatened the doctor to create a a bride as he didnt want to be alone but he used the body of a recently deceased friend, who killed herself. But again this doctor had already explored this option but refused it after further research was carried out. He decided to leave as this doctor had covered all the bases and was a decent, dediciated man who deserved a little happiness but he was leaving without the recipe for the biscuits.
" I will be leaving now" he stood up to leave,"really I convinced you!?" the bewildered look on the doctors face softened the Negotiators heart." Yes you have convinced me that this experiment is different, your an intelligent young man who has good intentions with sound evidence that I regretfully, "Regretfully?" puzzled the doctor." Yes regretful because this has been an interesting discussion and I feel sad that we must part way" he sighed. The doctor went to shake his hand which startled the man, "sorry" he flinched. The doctor just smiled and thanked him for his time.
