Chapter Text
He was normal. As normal as can be. Always sticking to a routine and keeping everything in check. Nobody questioned him. It's just how a leader should be. Organized and collected. Sure he overfixed some things. He did also look at too minor of details like pronunciation but that's just him making sure that the members were even better singers you know. Nothing weird. Normal singer things…..right.
1.
Chan was in the studio doing his normal thing. Relooking over what he, Jisung and Changbin did, making sure everything was perfect. Of course it was already good but not perfect. He luckily only had to tweak a few things.
He started adding some more to beat. There was a specific section that sounded really good so he played it again and again. He wasn’t even paying attention to what he was previously doing.
Someone walked into the studio. He quickly swerved his chair and took off his headphones.
“Oh hey min! What are you doing here?” He asked.
“Looking for you. What were you even doing?” He went straight into questioning. He knew why. He was prone to overworking himself. Luckily he got better at not going too crazy into work mode especially since he figured out his limits in the past couple years. But this time he wasn’t even really working. It was that one beat that was so satisfying to his ears. It was perfect. It hit the right part of his brain that was always craving for that.
“I’m just relistening to a part, why?” He doubled down at least that what he thought he was doing. Sometimes he couldn’t even tell what he was actually doing. It was like he was viewing himself from a double control panel- is he ranting too much. He probably is. He should really shut up.
“I just watched you replay the same part five times in one minute. Are you already doing what you promised us to stop doing?” Minho accused him.
“I wasn’t. There was this one part that sounded really good. Look, take a listen.” He pulled Minho's arm down so he could put his headphones on him. He clicked play.
“Doesn’t it sound good?” He asked him eagerly.
“I mean I guess. I don’t get why I would play it so many times but it suits the song.” He tells him.
“Oh. I mean I guess you're right.” Chan says a little disappointed. He really thought it sounded perfect like the type of part that scratches your brain but Minho right he over doing it.
“So are you done?” Chan always forgets that Minho is very monotone and not as emotional as he is. It always throws him into a loop. He can’t always figure out his tone. Of course it's not his fault it's only his own. By now he should be able to figure out what Minho means but of course he can't. He has never been the best at figuring out tones. He has always struggled but that is normal for having to be a certain way all the time.
He gives him a nod and saves his work. Close his laptop and place it into his bag.
“Let's go.” He says walking to the door.
2.
Him and Changbin were doing their classic working out. Doing the normal arm presses and some dead lifting.
“So how are things with Seungminnie?” Chan asked.
“Pretty good. We finally figured out how to time our hangouts without either of us getting pissed at the other.” Changbin tells him. Chan was completely confused. Why would either of them get pissed at each other? They were like Minho and Jisung. Attached at the hip and could never live without each other.
“Why would you even get pissed at each other.” He blurted, not even realizing.
“Oh—um. It’s kind of hard to explain.” Changbin looked embarrassed, at least he thought he did. Maybe he was just weird out by his intrusive question. People always tell him his mouth is discontent from his brain. (It was more like a laptop charger. It was plugged in but not perfectly. It was like you could easily shake it out).
“Sorry I didn’t mean to ask that out loud.” He says, shaking his hands. He also made sure to be sincere with it. People always said he was slightly mean when he tried to apologize, which is odd since he should sound remorseful for the horrific (read as slightly bad) thing he did.
“No you’re good hyung. Seungmin found out that he autistic so he doesn’t always want to hang out and be all lovely dovey when I do. So we figured out a schedule that works with the both of us.” Changbin explains to him.
“No, that makes sense. When did he find out?” Chan then started to be interrogated. He didn’t mean to but he always wanted to know everything. Maybe it was because he was the oldest either way he had always had to be careful. His parents always hated the constant questioning.
“He found out almost a month ago. He is still getting used to actually knowing why he acted the way he did. I think he is planning to. tell everyone soon since it might help everyone. Pretty sure at least half the group is neurodivergent” Changbin tells laughing towards the end, “I’m mainly talking about Minho, that dude is literally coded to be neurodivergent.”
“How?” Chan says grabbing smaller weights so he could both work out and still focus on the conversion.
“Have you seen Minho? He acts similar to Seungmin. He mainly clings to Jisung. Sometimes you too. He also will only come out of his room sometimes.” Changbin tells him.
“Oh. Guess I never realized.” He mumbles, speeding up. How could he not notice? He is literally the oldest. He should be more observant and less obvious.
“Yeah and I think Jisung has ADHD but he does also drink a lot of energy drinks and coffee so maybe that's why.” Changbin gets back to working out. Chan doesn’t continue his questioning.
3.
It was the day of the week that he went to the dance studio and hung out with Hyunjin. It was always nice since Hyunjin dancing was so satisfying to watch. It also helped him get his own work done. He knew there was a specific term for it but who cares. If he was able to get more work done then so be it. Less work for later.
He walked into the dance studio. Already seeing Hyunjin getting his own music set up.
“Hey Channie hyung. Ready to watch my amazing dance skills.” Hyunjin says bragging almost sounding like Jisung.
“You’re hanging around Sung too much Hyun.” Chan tells him. He probably sounds way too harsh, “Sorry did that come off harsh?”
“Nah I've been hanging out with more recently. How’d you know.” He says joking around.
“Uh lucky guess?” Chan says taking it slightly literally. He then goes to walk to his usual corner. Hyunjin goes back to setting up.
Hyunjin starts his run through. Chan starts writing lyrics.
“Hey, can you see if this part looks clean? Minho-hyung would kill me if it doesn’t look perfect.” Hyunjin requested.
“What?” He wasn’t even paying attention to anything. He kind of just zoned out. He does that way too often. If someone was doing something then he usually just zoned out instead of getting stuff done. Which annoyed him to the oblivion.
“Check over my dancing.” Hyunjin quickly yells out.
“I’m not the dancer of the group though.” He explains to him. Why would he want someone who doesn’t do the main dancing to look over. He should ask MInho or Felix since them two dance the most out of the eight of them.
“I can’t ask the others. Minho hyung would kill me since this dance should have been done a week ago and Felix isn’t here right now. So you are going to watch and tell me if it's good or not mkay.” Hyunjin said using that weird tone that he always used on him for some strange reason.
“Fine, just stop using that tone. I can never tell what you mean.” Chan tells him and all he does is shrug.
“It’s just how I talk though?” Hyunjin says.
“Sorry.” Chan says.
“Nah you're good now watch.” And that he does.
4.
Him and Jisung were doing their daily producing without Changbin day (AKA the day he hung out with Seungmin). Things were going smoothly until jisung brought up a random topic.
“Do you think I might have ADHD?” He asked Chan
“Why are you asking?” Chan asked back. That was very random considering the song they are currently producing seems more like a sex song then a ‘oh hey am I nerodivegent’ type song.
“Well you know how Seungmin got tested and he autistic and of course everyone thinks Minho-hyung is autistic or just has something random going on.” He illuminates to him, “And everyone thinks I might have ADHD since I already have an anxiety disorder.”
“I mean maybe. I don’t really pay attention to how everyone acts.” Which was a complete lie since he was already questioning if somehow anyone else thinks he might also be neurodivergent. He hoped not. He was normal, perfectly normal, nothing wrong.
“I might try to get tested just to see.” He says getting back to adding stuff to the track.
Chan always wondered how he could just easily change the topic. He can never. He always dwells way too much. He still remembers embarrassing moments that he knew he could have done differently.
“Come on hyung i want to be done so we can brag to changbin-hyung that we do better then him.” Jisung says spamming keys at this point. Chan sighs and gets back to it.
5.
“Hey lix!” Chan yells seeing him pass by.
“Hey Chris!” Felix yells in a high pitched voice and runs over to him.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Just heading back to the studio why?”
“I was heading to a cafe that had just opened. Everyone is busy for some reason.” He says looking pitiful. Chan knew he wasn’t actually sad but he couldn’t help but feel bad. Felix looked so sad. Wait, he really needs to stop doing that. He always assigns people emotion.
“I thought today was mostly a free day for everyone?”
“Nah most of the group is doing work or just flat out sleeping.” Felix recounts what he seen everyone do.
“Oh well I can join you if you want.”
“Perfect” Felix had a look on his face. His key mischievous look, which was never good.
They get to the cafe. It was pretty big for the location of it.
“Hey I forgot my wallet could you pay hyung.” Felix asked. Of course he forgot it. He just didn’t want to pay.
“Fine you brat. You’re worse than Innie.” Chan said, sighing. Jeongin doesn’t always try paying since he is the youngest of course he does make it up by attempting to do the chores around the dorm but he doesn’t do it like Chan likes it to be done so he is always rearranging items back into its place.
“I’ll pay next time I promise.” Felix says but Chan knew his fingers were crossed.
They get their drinks and food and go to sit in a booth at the corner of the place.
“Why do you get your coffee so bitter if you don’t like it like that?” Felix asked, watching Chan face grimace.
“Well since that is the easiest way to get it.” Chan says back
“You do know that like half the group gets their coffee full of sugar or just flat out drinks energy drinks.”
“Well still.”
“Eh whatever. It's always weird you do that.”
“Do what?” He knew it was odd that he always went basic but he didn’t want to give the workers any trouble. What if he sees them again and they have some sort of resentment toward him because he had too complicated of an order.
“Nothing. Sorry I came off harsh.” And now he felt bad. He knew he should have just answered his first question differently.
“Nah it good mate. I also probably came off harsh so we are even.”
Both of them went back to eating and drinking their food.
6.
Him and Seungmin are closely similar. Both of them have to do things a certain way. Both have problems with certain food. Both also were the one to ignite affection not the other way around (sometimes the other did it for Chan but not always and the only one who did it with Seungmin the most was Changbin). The only thing that was different was Seungmin had a reason to be this way Chan did not. Which is why it was super odd when Seungmin said what he said.
“I think you and Minho are autistic.” He blatantly says to him (read as bluntly). What the fuck did Seungmin mean. Why the hell would he say that?
“Huh?” God damnit he could even say the correct wording what a fucking stuck up he is.
“Not to be one of those people but you and Minho act similar to me.”
“You do realize Minho is your hyung. He would air fry you in a heartbeat if he heard you say that.” He was still completely avoiding what he had heard Seungmin say. Him autistic what a joke.
“Whatever he’s not even here.”He rolled his eyes, “But I'm serious I really do think you guys are. I could just be overobserving though.”
“Nah I don’t think you are but I don’t think I am. Maybe MInho. Everyone has been saying to me and by everyone you and Changbin have said Minho might be autistic.”
“Huh, interesting.”
“Yeah I think you and Changbin share a brain cell together.” He says laughing.
“Maybe, I still think you might also be.”
“Seungmin.”
“Hyung.” He copies his tone but makes it more annoying.
“I promise you I am not. Okay.” He knew he sounded angry which he hated since when he first joined the group he was always so angry. Always taking out his anger on them (and what didn’t make it any better is when he was young and did that to his parents they would slap him in the face. He felt chills up his spin).
“Okay. I’ll accept that for now.” He goes back to what he was originally doing and Chan watches.
7.
Him and Jeongin were doing their daily chores. Him with cleaning and reorganizing and Jeongin doing more simple ones like the laundry and dishes (and whatever the hell you do in a house).
“Innie you didn’t fold them correctly.” Chan tells him.
“I know I was speeding through since we aren’t doing anything crazy next week so we don’t have to look our best.” He tells, folding the next shirt even messier.
Now don’t get him wrong he has one hundred percent folded laundry really badly but that's when he does it. Not Jeongin, he always does it the same way which is predictable. It is also the one thing that doesn’t make him want to die (yes he is being way too overdramatic. One thing being different shouldn’t make him want to die but yet here we are).
“Yeah sorry I’m just used to you doing it the same way everytime.” He says putting cleaning supplies away. The great thing about him and Jeongin living together is that they both understand each other habits way more then when they lived separately.
“Sor- hyung you do realize this shouldn’t bother you this much.” Both him and Jeogin had a slight apologizing problem (if either of them did say sorry they would have to put 10,000 won in the jar. So far Jeongin has put the least).
“You’re right, sorry about that.” He says and then Jeongin screams, “Hah! Put the money in the jar right now, hyung.” (He should have never suggested that idea to him).
“Well I'm going out soon, see you later.” Jeongin says going to his room with the laundry.
Ah what is he going to do with this crazy kid. He did wish Jeongin would have told him his plan to leave since now he has to rearrange his schedule since he can no longer do his daily work with someone else's task (BODY DOUBLING YOU IDOIT).
8. Everyone
“So we all collectively agree Channie hyung is autistic and just won’t admitted it.” Jeongin states. He wishes he could have explained to Chan why he didn’t stay on the day they usually do a lot of body doubling and get a ton of work done together.
“Well no duh.” Jisung rolled his eyes, “Have you seen that man? He is a walking high masking autistic. Just like Seungmin and Minho-hyung.”
“Screw you Jisung.”
“Fuck you Jisung.”
“It's true though!” He argues back.
Of course neither of them could deny it.
“So how do we convince the dense person on this planet to even consider that he might be neurodivergent?" Changbin asked.
“Great question, I have no idea.” Jisung says smiling and Minho hits him, “Not helpful you dumb squirrel.”
“I mean we could hint or we could even just flat out get him to take a test.” Felix suggested
“Thank you Yongbok.” Minho says, “See now was it that hard for all you dumbasses to come up with a good plan.”
“Whatever Hyung.” Hyunjin says.
“Air fryer Hwang.”
“No thanks.”
“So the new plan is to get hyung to realize he is one hundred percent autistic and probably some other things since we all are probably neurodivergent and now im rambling is into ignition” Jeongin says and everyone nods.
Somehow someway they are going to get their hyung to realize that he is neurodivergent and they aren't delusional about it.
