The first breath of winter had barely brushed Seoul, bringing with it a crisp chill and the promise of festive lights. For most, early November was a time to gradually transition, perhaps pick out a new coat, but for Joshua Hong, it was the official kick-off to holiday season. His Omega instincts, usually expressed through meticulous organization and the creation of perfectly fragrant, soothing scents in their penthouse, kicked into hyperdrive when it came to anything celebratory. And the holidays, especially Christmas, were the peak of his nesting drive.
Jeonghan knew this. He braced himself every year, even as a secret, fond anticipation bloomed in his chest. His Alpha found a deep, almost primal satisfaction in Joshua’s meticulous efforts to transform their shared home into a vibrant, cozy haven.
The current year was no exception. Joshua burst through the penthouse door, the autumn wind ruffling his hair, but his eyes shone with the incandescent glow of a thousand Christmas lights. In his arms, he carried a ridiculously oversized box, somehow balancing it with an even larger, albeit flat, bag that clearly contained some kind of sparkly fabric. His usually sweet jasmine scent was currently effervescent, popping with excitement.
"Jeonghan-ah! Guess what?!" Joshua practically sang, dropping the box with a soft thud and nearly bouncing on the balls of his feet.
Jeonghan, lounging on their plush sofa, scrolling idly on his phone, merely lifted an eyebrow, a picture of serene, practiced calm. "Let me guess," he drawled, a faint, amused smile playing on his lips. "It's November 8th, and you've decided our penthouse isn't festive enough for, well, November." His cedarwood scent, usually a steady, grounding presence, softened with fond amusement.
Joshua gasped dramatically. "No! It's exactly the right time! The stores are starting to put out the good stuff! And I found the most perfect new fairy lights for the balcony, they twinkle like actual snowflakes, not just blink!" He gestured wildly with a free hand, the sparkle bag swaying precariously. "And this!" He patted the box with reverence. "This is our new tree topper! We need a new aesthetic this year, babe. Something more... regal."
Jeonghan pushed himself upright, his smile widening. "Regal, huh? Did our perfectly respectable angel figurine finally lose its halo?" He stood, stretching languidly, his eyes taking in the sheer, unbridled joy radiating from his Omega. It was infectious.
"No, it's just... we need to evolve!" Joshua declared, already tearing open the sparkly bag. "And this year, I'm thinking silver, gold, and deep emerald. Very sophisticated, very elegant. We're not doing the kitschy Santa stuff this year, okay?"
Jeonghan chuckled, walking over to Joshua and wrapping his arms around his waist from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder. He inhaled deeply, letting the sweet, excited jasmine fill his lungs. "Whatever my Omega desires," he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to Joshua’s temple. "As long as I don't have to climb a ladder taller than myself to string lights again."
Joshua giggled, leaning back into Jeonghan’s warmth. "You won't! I already bought the extra-long extension pole for the high windows! We’re going to be a winter wonderland, Jeonghan-ah. A sophisticated winter wonderland."
And so began the annual transformation.
The next few days were a delightful, chaotic blur. Joshua, a man possessed by the spirit of Christmas, embarked on a series of elaborate shopping expeditions, often dragging a bemused but secretly thrilled Jeonghan along. While Joshua meticulously selected ornaments, garlands, and scented candles that evoked memories of pine forests and candied apples, Jeonghan found himself observing, a quiet pride swelling in his chest.
He watched as Joshua debated the merits of warm white versus cool white lights, the texture of velvet ribbons, the precise shade of metallic spray for some pinecones he’d collected. Joshua wasn't just decorating; he was curating an experience, building a sensory haven for their shared nest. His omega instincts were in full bloom, manifesting as an obsessive attention to detail, a passionate desire to create comfort and beauty.
"Okay, so for the tree," Joshua announced one evening, sprawled on the floor amidst swatches of fabric and catalog clippings, a hot chocolate steaming beside him, "I think we need to layer. First the base lights, then the silver mesh ribbon, then the larger gold baubles, then the emerald-green statement pieces, and then the delicate silver icicles. And only then can we put on the sentimental ornaments we’ve collected."
Jeonghan, who was attempting to read a book but kept getting distracted by the sight of Joshua’s intensely focused, slightly furrowed brow, simply nodded. "Sounds like a military operation, Shua."
Joshua ignored him, already picturing the masterpiece. "It's about depth, Jeonghan-ah! And balance! You can't just slap things on! We're creating a mood!"
When the massive artificial tree, a magnificent seven-foot spruce, finally arrived, it took both of them, plus a fair bit of comedic grunting, to assemble it in the living room. Joshua then took over, a visionary director orchestrating his festive symphony. He hummed cheerful carols under his breath, occasionally letting out little gasps of delight when a new element perfectly fell into place.
Jeonghan, for his part, became the designated "lift things, hold things, untangle things, and hand things to Joshua" assistant. He grumbled playfully about the sheer volume of glitter that seemed to spontaneously generate in their home, and teased Joshua about his "authoritarian decorating style." But beneath the lighthearted complaints, his Alpha hummed with deep satisfaction.
He watched Joshua, perched precariously on a stool, meticulously wrapping fairy lights around each branch, his tongue peeking out in concentration. He saw the sheer joy on Joshua’s face as a particularly ornate gold bauble caught the light just right. He felt the constant emanation of comfort and contentment from Joshua’s scent as their home slowly but surely transformed.
This was it. This was his Omega, making their home beautiful and safe, infusing it with his own unique brand of warmth and cheer. Every carefully placed ornament, every strand of twinkling light, every plush, festive throw Joshua arranged on the sofa, was a declaration of love for their shared space, for their pack of two. It was Joshua’s way of saying, "This is our home, and it is beautiful, and it is safe, and it is filled with love."
Jeonghan often found himself just sitting back, a cup of tea in hand, simply observing Joshua at work. The Alpha in him swelled with a quiet, fierce pride. He loved seeing Joshua so utterly immersed, so purely happy. It made their penthouse feel not just like a luxurious apartment, but a true home, a nest carefully crafted by his Omega.
One evening, after several days of intense decorating, the living room was finally finished. The tree stood majestic and resplendent, a vision of silver, gold, and emerald. Garlands draped elegantly over doorframes and bookshelves. Scented candles flickered, releasing soft notes of cinnamon and pine. Plush velvet pillows and throws adorned the sofa, inviting warmth. Even the coffee table bore a tastefully arranged centerpiece of frosted berries and metallic leaves.
Joshua stood back, hands on his hips, surveying his masterpiece with a profound sense of accomplishment, his jasmine scent a quiet symphony of contentment. "What do you think?" he asked, turning to Jeonghan, his eyes sparkling in the soft glow of the lights.
Jeonghan pushed himself up from the sofa, walking slowly around the room, taking in every detail. He ran a hand over a velvet ribbon, touched a delicate glass icicle, and finally turned to Joshua, pulling him gently into his arms.
"It's... breathtaking, Shua," he confessed, his voice low and sincere, devoid of any teasing. His Alpha scent enveloped Joshua, warm and comforting, laced with admiration and deep love. "Absolutely breathtaking. You've made our home truly magical."
Joshua beamed, burying his face in Jeonghan’s shoulder, a wave of sweet jasmine washing over them both. "I just wanted it to feel cozy. And happy."
Jeonghan tightened his embrace, pressing a kiss to the top of Joshua’s head. "You always do, my love." He lifted Joshua’s chin, making their eyes meet. "You have a way of making everything brighter. Everything better." He paused, a soft, secret smile gracing his lips. "And I wouldn't trade your Christmas enthusiasm, or your incredible nesting instincts, for anything in the world."
Joshua’s cheeks flushed a delicate pink at the mention of his "nesting instincts," a term he knew Jeonghan usually reserved for more private, heat-related moments. But in this context, it felt like the highest compliment. He leaned into the kiss Jeonghan gave him then, a tender, loving kiss that tasted of warmth and holiday cheer.
As they settled back onto the sofa, wrapped in a plush blanket, gazing at the twinkling lights of the tree, Jeonghan rested his chin on Joshua’s head. He knew the glitter would never truly disappear until February, and he’d probably find pine needles in unexpected places for months. But looking at the sheer, unadulterated joy on Joshua’s face, at the beautiful, comforting haven his Omega had created, Jeonghan wouldn’t have it any other way. His heart swelled with profound love, secretly, deeply, adoring every single sparkly, festive inch of it.
