Chapter Text
Kim Seokjin and Kim Namjoon had been happily married for two years. They absolutely adored each other, and were about as much of a relationship goal as you could get. Seokjin worked as a guidance counselor at the local middle school and Namjoon was a record producer at a large-name company. As you could imagine, Seokjin didn’t usually see his husband when he wanted to. Namjoon would spend most of his nights at the studio producing or in the office buried under paper work in the early months of their marriage. It didn’t make Seokjin love him any less, he believed it only strengthened their bond with every second spent away from each other so he didn’t mind it as much. It also helped when Namjoon would make up for his absence with amazing ‘I missed you’ sex that would carry on into the early morning and Seokjin had to call out of work, not that he was ever complaining. 13 year-old children could be devastatingly depressing.
They were happy with their lives.
Or so Namjoon thought.
It wasn’t until that one fateful Sunday morning when the couple decided to eat outside on their large patio, overlooking the large backyard. They had their breakfast set out in front of them that Seokjin had prepared and steaming cups of freshly brewed coffee filling their nostrils. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping happily in the tree tops, almost in a song. Namjoon carefully picked up his coffee, wanting to enjoy the tranquility and silence of his home since he had finally managed to receive a day off. That, unfortunately, wasn’t going to happen.
“I want a child,” Seokjin blurted out randomly, catching his husband by surprise and hot coffee spilled into his lap. Namjoon quickly put down the mug and grabbed a napkin to wipe away the coffee so it wouldn’t stain and looked at the other, who hadn’t paid him any mind.
“It’s nice to know that my dick could be burnt because of this coffee and you did nothing to help me.”
“I want a child.” Seokjin repeated once again, looking at Namjoon instead of staring off at their lawn. “A kid we could raise together, build a family, create memories, go on vacations, and- “
“Yes, dear. I understand your point. But you do realize that it is physically impossible for you to have a child because you don’t have a vagina, right?” Namjoon, of course, was being a smart-ass because that’s just who he was. A smart-ass who loved to annoy his husband.
“Yes, Joon. I am aware. I was opting for maybe adoption or maybe a surrogate mother.” he explained with a roll of his eyes.
“Well, I have no problem with it, I just hope you don’t mind me asking. Why?”
Seokjin looked out onto the large expanse of land, his gaze soft and longing. “I’d always wanted a child, albeit son or daughter. And it usually gets lonely in this large house when you’re not there. We have all these rooms, and no one in them and all this love, but no one to share it with.”
Namjoon reached over and wrapped his arms around his husband, pulling him into his lap. He rests his head against the broad shoulder, causing Seokjin to look at him. “You have me,” he smiled brightly, dimples shone through his cheeks.
“Yeah, but it’s not the same,” Seokjin looked away, a pout settling on his face.
“Well, if it’s going to make you happy, then I’m happy. Let’s start a family.”
The other turned around in his lap, smiling brightly and threw his arms around Namjoon. He placed several kisses alongside his jaw and on his face, muttering ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’ over again. Their breakfast was long forgotten.
-
Namjoon hadn’t expected Seokjin to want a family so soon. He assumed that maybe they would wait a couple of weeks, talk things through, by the necessities, all of that. No, Seokjin grabbed his arm the first chance he got and dragged Namjoon to the local group home, all ready to adopt since waiting for a surrogate mother would take too long. As they were supposed to be filling out paperwork for applying for adoption, it turned out Seokjin had already applied months in advance and was eager to choose a kid, go home, and spoil them immediately.
He currently sat in the middle of the living room, braiding and playing with the little girl’s hair, and she was certainly having a ball messing with his blonde locks. Namjoon was talking to the ‘Mother’ and asking about the proper care of a young child, seeing as he wanted to be fully prepared of the responsibilities of raising one.
He was not prepared for this, however.
Seokjin returned to him, with a young boy in tow who looked to be in middle school. He approached him with a stoic face and hands stuffed into his jacket pockets. He seemed uncomfortable with Seokjin’s hand on his back, pushing him toward Namjoon.
“Namjoon, look at him! He’s so precious!” Seokjin gushed, crushing the young boy in his arms in what was supposed to be a comforting hug. The boy looked unbearably uncomfortable in Seokjin’s embrace and Namjoon had to physically pry his husband off him.
"Yep, he's super precious." Namjoon muttered, gears working already on the decision of adopting and pieces of him were staring to regret it. If they had decided to adopt, it would mean a complete lack of privacy. So no make-up sex, no kinky sex, no sex on the couch. None of it. Call him selfish, but he was a 22 year-old with needs.
“M-Min Yoongi. He’s the oldest in the house, and the most misbehaved.” The house mother stepped into their conversation, seeming hesitant to approach Yoongi.
“Ah, I don’t like that word ‘misbehaved’, I prefer ‘misunderstood’. He’s perfect,” he turned to Namjoon, his eyes twinkling in excitement. “I want to adopt him.”
Namjoon sighed, unable to believe that he was going to start a family so soon. But the twinkle in his husband’s eyes made him cave in, all resistance meting away. “Where’s his paperwork?”
Seokjin laughed happily, hugging Namjoon tightly then following Yoongi upstairs to pack his things. Watching his husband be excited to start a family so soon, Namjoon became excited as well. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad raising practically a teenager. He thought he was prepared for whatever life thrown at him, he made it this far. How bad could it get?
-
Namjoon was just wrong a lot these days.
After signing the papers to adopt Yoongi and carrying the boy’s single suitcase into their car, Seokjin had been full of bubbling excitement, telling the boy in the back seat all about the couple. Yoongi was silent most of the time, his headphones successfully blocking out any and everything Seokjin was telling him. It’s not that the other didn’t notice, which he did, he couldn’t help but be overly excited. He had a son now, someone to call his own.
The couple pulled up to their house, a small gasp escaped the younger boy’s lips as they parked in the driveway. It wasn’t a castle, but it wasn’t your average town house either. It was large, Yoongi could see that, and the driveway looked almost as it had been polished. Yoongi stepped out of the car and took off his headphones then setting them on his neck, still stuck in awe as Namjoon went to go get his things. Seokjin appeared next to him, arms crossed against his chest. He looked up at the house, same as Yoongi, and his head was tilted in confusion.
“I don’t know what you’re so in awe about. I told you all about the house on the drive here,” Yoongi looked at Seokjin, his mouth agape and then back at the house, still taken by surprise. Seokjin nudged his shoulder, coaxing the boy to follow him into the house. “Come on.”
Seokjin followed behind Namjoon, already walking to the door. Yoongi still stood in the middle of the driveway, still looking at the house with his backpack left on the ground. Coming out of his daze, he grabbed his bag and sprinted toward the house, closing it behind him. He met the couple in their large kitchen, his bag long forgotten in the entry way.
“Who the hell are you guys?” he asked, slightly out of breath from the fucking marathon he just ran.
“I’m Kim Seokjin, I work as a guidance counselor. This is my husband, Kim Namjoon. He’s-“
“Kim Namjoon? You mean the actual, legit, multi-million-dollar producer Kim Namjoon?” Yoongi asked, once again in awe.
“Kid, you flatter me,” Namjoon stated, smiling as he cheeks tinted a light pink.
“What the shit?” the preteen muttered underneath his breath, running his hand through his black hair.
“Um, sir, I don’t tolerate that language in my household. Who the hell told you to talk with such a potty mouth at such a young age?” Seokjin scolded, taken aback by Yoongi’s previous cursing. He wondered if the group mother had been so lenient to let a 13 year-old boy curse.
“Sorry,” he muttered in response. “Just let me gather my thoughts.”
Yoongi exited the room, still in a state of shock and grabbed his bookbag from the floor then headed upstairs. The boy then cursed himself because he had no fucking idea where his room was and slightly afraid of stumbling onto something private or just being lost completely.
“Where’s my room?” he called from the top of the stairs.
“Pick whichever one you like, except from the one down the hall!” Namjoon called back. He hadn’t put the boy’s luggage in any of the rooms upstairs and left it in the living room instead. Seokjin reminded him to do it, but he would forget eventually and Yoongi would have to get his own suitcase and take it upstairs.
Seokjin placed some ingredients for dinner on the counter and began chopping vegetables. Namjoon sat at the island and watched his husband cook, shoulders slumped and a fist resting underneath his chin.
“Yoongi seems to know a lot about you.” Seokjin commented, catching the other’s attention.
Namjoon chuckled humorlessly. “Yep, just what I need. A fan living in my house,”
Seokjin smacked him on his shoulder with a spatula, looking at the stairwell in case Yoongi was listening. “What the hell, Namjoon?! He’s your adopted son! Don’t be such a prick.”
“I’m just saying. Are you even sure you want to have a son? I mean, isn’t it a little early in our marriage for us to have kids?”
“Goddammit, Namjoon. We’ve been married for 2 years already. Please tell me that you’ve at least thought about raising a family!” The older slammed his hand down on the counter, taking Namjoon by surprise. The other stayed silent and Seokjin’s eyes went wide.
“Oh my God.”
“I haven’t had a chance for the thought to develop. I’ve been insanely busy to even think about such matters.” he countered, hands in the air defensively.
“What happened to ‘I have no problem with it’ or ‘If you’re happy, then I’m happy’? What happened, Namjoon?” Seokjin’s voice was raising with every word, which only occurred when he was pissed.
Namjoon opened his mouth to say something, but the slamming of the front door cut him off. Seokjin and Namjoon looked toward the door and it took them a while until they finally sprinted to it, and throwing it open but Yoongi was already out of their sights. The older tugged on his hair and tears pooled in his eyes. He grabbed two coats from the coat closet as it did get chilly at night. Namjoon met him at the door with the car keys and Seokjin pushed him away.
“You’ve done enough, Namjoon.” he choked out, grabbing the car keys and leaving the house. He climbed into the car and let out a sob, his heart clenching painfully. Seokjin wiped his tears and started up the car. He pulled out of the driveway as a few tears fell onto his cheeks.
He had to find his son because Lord knows what he would do if anything happened to Min Yoongi.
