Chapter 1: CHAPTER 1

Chapter Text

"Hm-hm-hm-hm-hm!" Purple hummed. She was cleaning her room. She used the rag in her hands to dust of the dust on her furniture.

A lot happened in the last few days. Purple went on many fun adventures with her friends, Green, Red, Blue, Orange and Yellow. They even had a speedrun to see who can beat minecraft the fastest. Purple came third! She was overjoyed. Mango also finally legally adopted her as his daughter.

Purple dusted her bed. She dusted her wardrobe. She dusted the foot of the bed. She dusted the shelf. She dusted the plant on the shelf. She dusted the tiny figurine on the shelf. She dusted the bedside table. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and-

She saw a photo. It was of her old family. Her 8 year old self was standing in the middle. Her mother, Orchid, was sitting on a chair beside her and her father, Navy, was standing beside them both. This photo was taken before everything went wrong.

Suddenly, Purple heard a knock on the door. Then came a voice that said "Can I come in?". It was Mango.

"You can come in, dad!" Purple said cheerfully. Mango opened the door and stepped in.

"I just wanted to say I'm ordering takeout tonight cause I'm too tired from work to cook. I just wanted to ask if there is something you wanted to have. I swear to god, my coworkers are dumping too much work on me..." Mango said.

"Oh, I'm fine with whatever you're ordering. I'll just like to have some boba, you know how much I like it!" Purple said with a smile. Mango nodded and was just about to leave when he noticed the photo in her hand.

"Hey, Purple, what's that?" He asked as he stepped closer to take a better look at the photograph.

"Oh! Uh, its my old family. Well... long story short, one of them died and the other left and-" Purple tried explaining, but then Mango interrupted her.

"Wait a minute... is that Orchid?" Mango asked.

"Oh, yeah! Orchid is my mom's name and-"

"Hold up... Orchid was your MOM?!" Mango asked, looking at Purple in completely and utterly in shock.

"Yeah, she is... wait, do you know her?" Purple asked.

"Of course I know her kid! She was my first love!" Mango replied.

"She was your WHAT?!" Purple shouted. Now it was her turn to be completely and utterly in shock.

A moment of silence passed by...

"You've got some explaining to do..." Purple said.

"Yeah... forget the takeout for now, I'll explain everything." Mango said as he sat down on the bed. He patted the spot next to him and motioned for Purple to sit.

After Purple sat down, he started talking. "Alright kid, let me start with how we first met... It all happened when I was around your age..."

--------------------------------------------------

"I swear to god, Mango. Why can't you just study for once?" Mr. Khaki, Mango's high school teacher, was scolding Mango for failing math again. Mango just looked at him and shrugged. He never cared for his grades.

"If you don't improve your grades, I will have to fail you." Mr. Khaki continued scolding him. Mango always thought it was all pointless. So he just casually shrugged again.

Just then, another student entered the classroom. It was a girl with bright pink hair which was tied into two ponytails. She looked around his age.

"Good morning, Mr. Khaki. You wished to see me?" The girl said.

"Ah, Orchid. Just in time like always." Mr. Khaki said, then turned to Mango.

"Mango, I'd like you to meet Orchid. She will be your tutor and will help you study." Mr. Khaki said to the 15 year old Mango. Mango just rolled his eyes.

That afternoon, the doorbell rang. Mango thought it was random neighbourhood kid ding - dong - ditching him. He decided to ignore it and continued doing whatever he was doing, but then it rang again, so he went to check it. He opened the door and saw the same girl from that morning.

"Hello, Mr. Khaki assigned me as your tutor to help you study." The girl said.

"What was your name again?" Mango asked.

"Wha- how can you not remember? I'm Orchid!" Orchid said, a little annoyed now.

"Okay, okay, come in..." Mango said as he let her enter.

They both sat down on the table and opened their books and took out their pens.

"Okay, so you know the pythagorean theorem, right? Use that to solve this equation." Orchid said as she pointed on an equation in the book.

"Uh, the what?" Mango asked.

"The pythagorean theroem. Y'know, a^2 + b^2 = c^2?" Orchid explained.

"Oh right..." Mango looked at the equation once, then back at Orchid. "How do you do that again?" he asked.

"Its basic algebra!" Orchid said.

"What's that? Some kind of fruit?" Mango asked.

Orchid facepalmed at his stupidity. "How did you even get into high school?"

Despite that, Orchid explained everything in detail to him. It took a long time, but Orchid finally managed to explain every topic thouroughly.

"Alright, now try solving this equation." Orchid instructs Mango. Mango looks at the equation, then back at her face.

"Sorry, I wasn't listening, could you explain that again?" Mango said.

Orchid stared at him. She spent such a long time explaining everything and he wasn't even listening to her?! She wanted to scream and punch him in the face. But she took a deep breath and kept her patience.

"Y'know what? Lets start from the very start. Lets do one topic at a time." Orchid said as she took out some easier books from her bag.

"So lets start at the very beginning with Algebra." She said as she started writing in the notebook in front of her. She explained every detail and this time she made sure he was listening to her.

At the end, she finally managed to teach him the basic concept of algebra.

"So, Algebra is basically like a detective game. You're a detective. Then there is a criminal we will call X. You need to solve the equations to find out who X is. Then you can arrest him and save the world. Get it?" Orchid tried explaining in a more fun way.

"Okay, now try solving this case." She instructed him, pointing at an equation on the book.

X + 9 = 15

Mango picked up the pen and scribbled onto the page. Fortunately, Orchid's method worked. He wrote the correct answer on the page, which was 6.

"Great job! You finally learned how to do it!" Orchid said, finally being able to take a breath and wiping the sweat off her forehead.

"Yes! I did it!" Mango cheered for himself. It was also a lot of hard work for him, and after solving the problem, he felt genuinely so happy.

Just then, Orchid looked at the clock. It was evening already.

"Oh, its evening already. Remember whatever I taught you today, okay? That would be all for today." Orchid said as she got up from her chair.

Orchid made her way to the door. Right before leaving, she remembered to wave Mango goodbye.

"Bye, Mango! See you tomorrow!" She said and then left.

Ah.. what an exhausting day it was. Mango just wanted to sleep now. So he ate dinner and went to bed early.

Before sleeping, Mango's mind swirled with random thoughts.

"A group of squids should be called a squad..."

"You can never stand backwards on stairs..."

"If you rip a hole in a net, there are actually fewer holes in it than before..."

Yeah, he does this every night.

"Y'know, that Orchid girl is actually kinda cute. Too bad nerd aren't my type"

That was his last thought before he fell asleep...
