Waxwell had come up with a great evil plan that morning. It was simple, sure, and not as extreme as his previous schemes (which did not backfire at all!), but he knew it would be flawless.
He decided to set up a simple tripwire across Goob’s door. The plan was that when Goob woke up and opened the door, he would trip, stumble forward and fall! It was a decent plan, Waxwell thought, but it was a harmless one that would make the fluffy craft be intimated by the candle, and he would learn to respect him as a villain!
Sure, it felt cruel to pull such a prank on his boyfriend, but lately Goob had been insufferably affectionate towards him, hugging and kissing him every chance he got (something the villain was definitely complaining about). He was being sickenly sweet, so it was only fair that the craft needed a small reminder of who exactly he was messing around with!
Waxwell crouched down at the doorway as he rigged the tripwire, lowering it just enough for the wire to be unnoticeable, but also able to trip over. He grinned triumphantly, already picturing the look of Goob’s face when he falls.
‘And voilà!’ He thought as he stood up, hands on his hips as he gazed down at the contraption. It looked barely visible! Now all he had to do was hide—
—until he heard a muffled sound coming from inside the room. Waxwell’s brows furrowed (definitely not in worry) as he recognised Goob’s voice, and it sounded like a sob. The candle inched closer to the door, careful not to step on the wire. He pressed his side and hand to steady himself against the door to listen closely, and what he heard was one quiet sob after another.
Was Goob sad..? But why?
Waxwell pressed himself even further against the door out of curiosity, only to hear the sound of the quiet sobs stopping, followed by silence. The villain was left confused.
Before he was able to remove himself from the door, it suddenly swung open, causing him to fall forward. The door was pulled open by none other than Goob, and the poor craft wasn’t given any time to process the shorter toon stumbling and crashing into him. The craft landed on his back with an ‘oof!’, followed by the candle who landed on top of him.
And their lips met in an accidental kiss.
Both the toons’ eyes widened, but made no move to pull away from the kiss, not even Waxwell. Goob stared at the other before smiling softly into the kiss. Taking the opportunity of the other not pulling away, Goob snaked one of his long arms around the candle’s waist and pulled him closer to deepen the kiss, making Waxwell squeak in surprise. Waxwell shut his eyes out of embarrassment, and yet he reciprocated the kiss while gripping the taller toon’s neck fluff.
Goob was the first to pull away, a dopey smile on his face when he gazed up at his boyfriend, who was blushing furiously.
“You know, if you wanted to kiss me, you could’ve just asked!” he chirped, making the candle’s flame burst.
“I-I didn’t mean to do that!! I fell forward because the door opened and you were in front of me!” The shorter toon yelped as the craft sat up, using his claws to maneuver Waxwell to sit on his lap.
“Uh-huh… and why were you at my door in the first place? Came to see me? Did you miss me?” Goob held a smug grin on his face as his tail wagged happily.
“URGH!! NO! I was.. setting up a trap there!” Waxwell’s response earned a sigh from Goob, who shook his head.
“Oh, Waxy! You don’t need to come up with excuses to come see and kiss me, you know?” The fluffy craft leaned forward, nuzzling his cheek against the other’s as his arms hugged his waist. “I missed you too!”
Waxwell was very flustered now, grumbling. He was about to protest until he took a closer look at his boyfriend’s face, whose eyes were puffy. His brows furrowed with worry.
“Goob, are you alright?” The question slipped out before he could stop it, but admittedly, he couldn't hide the care he held for the other.
The fluffy toon nodded with a smile, “Much better now that you’re here~!” he replied, earning a roll of Waxwell’s eyes, but he blushed.
The candle raised a hand and flicked lightly at Goob’s forehead, making him yelp. “Just spit it out already. I heard you crying, you know?” he asked in a concerned tone, making the other look down at the floor. His grip on the shorter’s waist loosened as he opened his mouth.
“It’s nothing, Waxy… but.. I guess I was just thinking about the run I was in earlier,” he took a deep breath before continuing, “I was supposed to distract, and I was doing a good job! But I just happened to zone out a bit, and got Scraps hurt by a twisted who lost sight of me!” Waxwell listened as he stared at the other, who looked full of shame, “My sister got injured and it’s all my fault! And I’m really worried about how she's doing right now! She’s probably mad at me!”
The candle sighed, grimacing at what he’s about to say, “Oh, Goob.. was it a major injury?”
The other toon shook his head, “A minor one.. but it’s the fact that I should’ve been more careful- I could’ve prevented her from getting hit at all!” he looked down in shame, before feeling his head being brought up by a hand on his cheek. He looked directly at Waxwell, their faces close.
“Hey, you doofus! Don’t overthink it. Scraps is your sister and would definitely forgive you. It only happened once, and we all make mistakes.” the shorter toon stated. Goob only gave a small hesitant smile at his reassurance. And so, Waxwell’s face softened before giving Goob a light peck on the nose, “She’ll be okay, alright? Don’t blame yourself so much.”
The gesture made the fluffy craft blush, his pupils dilating as he stared at the shorter in awe. Waxwell, realising what he just did, immediately cleared his throat and looked away. He pouted, “Ugh, I only did and said that stuff to make you feel better, alright?!” He gripped Goob’s neck fur nervously, fidgeting with it.
The other giggled in response, “I’m so lucky to have someone who loves and cares about me so much!” his face then turns serious, “Can I hug you?”
Waxwell rolled his eyes, “You hug me a thousand times without asking, but.. fine, I suppose this time you have rightfully earned a pity hug.” He slowly opened his arms, and immediately felt the fluffy body of the other pressed against him, his boyfriend’s cable-like arms wrapped around him.
And to say he didn’t melt into the hug was a lie.
Waxwell had always enjoyed Goob’s hugs, but refused to admit it. He had a villainous reputation to uphold. He’d pretend to be annoyed and squirm away, when in reality he often craved the physical touch. He had a feeling the other was catching on as well.
He really shouldn’t underestimate the supposedly naive craft.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when he was suddenly lifted up by Goob who stood up. He yelped in surprise, “H-Hey, put me down!!”
Goob tilted his head, “Aww, but you like it when I give you uppies!” he said in a teasing tone, clearly trying to provoke his boyfriend.
“D-DON’T SAY IT LIKE THAT!!” Waxwell blushed furiously, covering his face in his hands. “Put me down NOW!”
Goob laughed, “Alright, alright.. I just wanted to carry you to the kitchen! We could grab a snack and spend some time together, since you’re here!”
The shorter grumbled as he turned to the doorway, “We can do all that without having you to carry me.”
Waxwell walked to the doorway, and before he knew it, he had tripped over something and fell to the floor, startling Goob.
The candle had completely forgotten about the tripwire he set up. The taller toon gasped in surprise, bringing his claws to his mouth as he looked down at his boyfriend in awe. “Waxy-! You saved me! I had no idea that the wire was there, I could’ve been the one who tripped! Thank you! You’re the best!”
“URGH!!” the villain groaned before he felt himself being lifted up again, facing Goob. The fluffy craft smiled as he checked for any injuries, and when there were none, he started prepping Waxwell’s face with kisses.
“My hero! I love you so much!”
“…Love you too.” the candle muttered and pouted, looking away with a slight blush. Maybe he could let the fact that his evil plan failed slide, just this once.
