Work Text:
Love is a Performance, and you are the Lead Actor.
My very own heart, my universe.
Vodyanitsa.
The Prima Ballerina danced in her room, her Cryo vision making her glow as she twirled.
Her hair in a bun as she wore a delicate, white gown with a veil over her eyes.
For Odette finds comfort in Ballet, it is only when she is dancing can she truly let it out. Every move, every twirl is a symbol of every emotion.
The imagines herself as a delicate swan on a crystal clear lake, gliding with the water, imagining the sunlight hitting her.
With the silent, she slowly cries, gentle but sad tears fall from her eyes under the veil.
Her room is filled with roses, with candles, a symbol of what this day could have been.
A day where Odette would tell, she would admit her love for that singing siren.
The two would hug, whisper gentle praises, or maybe...
Maybe Vodyanitsa wouldn't love Odette like that, and Odette would be fine.
Because she would still be here with her, she could yearn from afar.
Oh the Oblivious Vodyanitsa, you will never know I feel, how my breath catches when I see you.
If I am the moon, then you are the sun, for I can never hold you close.
For you are not mine, but I, in every way will be yours.
...
It's not the hunter's fault, she knows, but every time she sees him, her heart burns.
The day she was supposed to say it, the day shs would admit it.
Before she could get a word out, Vodyanitsa would come and giggle, warmly tell her about Alyosha.
And her heart sank.
It's been weeks now, but it feels as though it has been days, it still feels like nothing has changed.
The day blends into the night, she barely remembers to eat, she picks at her food.
She is losing weight, and she needs someone to blame.
The best candidate is Alyosha. She knows it's not his fault. Odette is not entitled to love the Siren, but her heart aches.
She gives the hunter glares from afar, and he awkwardly breaks eye contact.
She will never hold Vodyanitsa accountable, but why him and not me?
What is so special about him that you forgot about me?
Is it because of the Rokot? Is it because I kill? Is it because I am Cold yet he is Warm?
What boulder must I move, what oath must I swear to love you?
Rosalyne used to say that the sharpest and most painful weapon, is love.
Odette used to scoff, but she is right.
More than any Performance, more than any person, more than anything does this hurt.
Vodyanitsa is right here, yet she feels so far.
In these past few days, she misses that woman, she misses Rosalyne too, perhaps she would've understood her grief.
...
Vodyanitsa had noticed something unusual about Odette.
Her distance, even with how cold Odette, now 'Lelek' can be, she is never unkind, she usually prefers to be quiet, not ignore others.
And Odette only acts odd if there is something wrong. Odette barely leaves her house, and just about never talks to Vodyanitsa.
And worst of all, when Vodyanitsa saw Odette at her performance, her eyes were unfocused, like she was processing something.
She was quite sad at that, but Alyosha cheered her up.
Taking her out at Podvoyre Restaurant, a swift kiss on her cheek, how sweet Alyosha can be
Still, that didn't get rid of her worries, she wants to help Odette after all. They are great friends.
She was pondering alone in her room, absent mindedly playing with her nail polish.
It was after a show, and Vodyanitsa was stretched out on her her bed, slightly exhausted.
When she heard a knock and quickly got up, before saying.
"Come in."
Alyosha walked in, his hair slightly messy, and his eyelashes with in them, but his eyes were warm as ever.
"Oh! Alyosha, I wasn't expecting you to be here so late! I thought you could clock out...hours ago?"
"Well, I would've, but Tugarin wouldn't let me leave before I saw your cute face."
He smiled and the dog behind him energetically went to Vodyanitsa, wagging it tail and bouncing at him.
"Aw! Such a sweet boy you are! I almost want to steal you from Alyosha!" The dog nuzzled in her lap as she brought him to her bed to play with him.
"But, are you sure it's just Tugarin that wanted to see me?"
"Huh...Oh well you know the answer to that, m'lady." He walked up to her, pressing his lips on hers gently.
The two kisses with passion, but it was short lived, for Tugarin was probably hungry too.
"Fine, fine Tugarin, I'll get you a sausage." He paused, creating some distance before sitting by Vodyanitsa on the bed.
"Y'know, Vodyanitsa, there's...there's been something I want to ask you about."
"Huh? Go ahead, spill the beans."
"Did I offend Odette in any way? I'm not sure what it is, but every time I've encountered her, zhe's been giving me glares."
"Yet, when we talk, her answers are always short, one worded, and she ends our conversations, I just wanted to clear anything up."
Vodyanitsa was surprised. Just why did Odette give Alyosha the cold shoulder?
Odette can hold grudges, sure, but why?
Her and Alyosha aren't the closest, but after everything, they've bonded a bit after the theater incident, so why the sudden change?
Also, this confirms that it's not only Vodyanitsa who thinks Odette is acting strange.
Whatever the reason, she hopes Odette's okay.
"I don't think so, you've always been nice to her so I wonder why."
"I wonder why too."
