Work Text:
Lucy knew when she walked into Tim’s office at the end of shift and saw him with a mountain of paperwork in front of him that it was going to be a late one for him.
After a day of meetings and getting called to a scene that took far too long, he’s hours behind on paperwork that should have been submitted early this afternoon. That meant he’s going to be there until it’s done.
“Go home. Order dinner and curl up on the couch with Kojo. Hopefully I’ll be home early enough to get a couple hours.” He told her before standing up and rounding his desk to give her a kiss. They steered clear of PDA at work since their promotions, but considering he won’t get to kiss her goodnight tonight, rules be damned.

Since they drove to the station together, Lucy was able to get a ride from Celina so that when Tim is done, he could just head home.
Once she got home, she changed into comfies, fed Kojo and threw herself on the couch. She had absolutely no idea what she wanted for dinner, especially considering he had mentioned this morning he was going to make her favorite sea bass tonight and she got all excited for that.
She thought about the time he surprised her with dinner when she had to pull an all nighter, and before she could even think too much about it, she was grabbing her keys and phone, telling Kojo she’d be back soon.
She placed an order to their favorite Italian place when she got in the car, hoping the timing will work out and the food will be ready by the time she gets there.
He’s not at his desk when she gets to the station, though she takes a few steps inside and notices the empty coffee cup and opened energy drink can that weren’t there when she left a few hours ago.
“What are you doing back?” She startles at his voice, turning to see him walk in with a smile at the sight of her.
She holds up the bag of food, “Returning the favor. You’re no good to yourself or anyone else if you don’t have food in your system. Plus you get a little grumpy when you’re hungry.”
He scoffs, “I do not get hangry. That, would be you my love.”
“Well, let’s eat before either of us get hangry.”
They sit down together, him in his chair and her across from him as she takes out the two plastic containers from the bag. He got his favorite sausage ravioli and she got baked ziti.
Neither rush to finish, knowing that when they do, she’ll have to go home so that he can keep working. They talk about their days, like they typically would at dinner and share a laugh about an idiot Lucy and Celina arrested today.
Once they’re done and the trash is thrown away, she turns to him,
“Walk me out?” He nods and they make their way out of the station. Once they’re outside, they reach for each other’s hand, squeezing tightly as they walk towards her car that’s parked right next to his truck.
They stop when they’re at her drivers side, facing each other. “Thanks for dinner,” he pulls her closer to him, “And thanks for bringing yourself. That’s always my favorite.”
She smiles as she wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a kiss. “Love you. Don’t work too late and drive safe, call me if you’re too tired to drive and me and Kojo can come get you.”
He returns the kiss. “Will do. Already looking forward to crawling into bed with you.”
After one last kiss, they reluctantly let go of each other and he opens her door for her as she climbs in. He waits until she’s settled in her seat before closing the door, “Bye baby. Drive safe, I love you.”
“Love you too.”
He watches her drive away, she waves right before she has to turn onto the street.

Tim finally crawls into bed just after midnight. Of course, he couldn’t just finish his paperwork, someone had to stop and talk to him about an issue that made him leave over an hour later than he would have otherwise.
He thinks he’s done a good job of being quiet while he’s gotten ready for bed, but when Lucy flops over towards him, her eyes are both open.
“Hey you,” she sleepily smiles.
“Hey. Sorry.” She just shakes her head and scoots closer, waiting for him to open his arm for her. Of course he does and she curls up against him.
“I’m just glad you’re home. Can’t sleep without you.” She yawns.
“I’m here now. Let’s get some sleep.” He kisses the top of her head, already feeling her breathing evening out.
