Work Text:
It's been… a few weeks, I assume, since I was thrown here. Damn, I need to count days properly… and since when did I decide to keep a diary? It's supposed to be a guidebook for myself, but something went wrong. Huh, I write it, like a freaking book. No one will see these notes.
Alright, what did I want to say? Ah, yeah, I recalled it now: my drawings.
At first, I didn't intend to draw anything in this journal. Nevertheless, habit is a habit — I started from little sketches. Very foolish (if not childish) doodle of Bullit (this bastard! ¬_¬), Then sketch of meatbug and a little record about it… in Old Camp, when I got some pieces of charcoal, I spent some time drawing portrait of Diego. Hope he didn't see me doing this — I don't want to share with anyone my artworks. And I don't want anyone to know that I'm an artist originally. One of my habits. No idea why I have such a habit.
I have a bad memory of faces, so I needed portraits of almost every person on the Old Camp. On every prominent person in the camp, at least. Don't forget about the amount of important people from other camps - they needed their own pages in my diary. Especially when I managed to become a Shadow. I should remember everyone.
For a long time, I was succeeding in small personal work. Few lines, shadows, strokes — portrait is done! And you can recognize the person I draw from the first look without any question, like: “Yeah, I guess this is him, but what is wrong with his eyes?” Or: “…What is wrong with his nose?” Etc.
But I'll be damned and cursed by all gods — this handsome young fire mage! Don't get me wrong: I like Milten, he's a good lad. However, drawing him is a total nightmare! Every time I came to the Inner Circle of Old Camp, sat on the bench somewhere nearby with the entrance to the mage's citadel and started working — I'll certainly draw something wrong. Guess I just can't get his blue with something greyish eyes right. Milten doesn't have such a look, believe me! Occasionally I can't draw his nose properly. From time to time, it's his chin. Once in a while I can't sketch his hairline as it should be.
Shit, Milten is the only one who always stands calmly and doesn't move unnecessarily in this damn colony, and he's the only one who never turns out right in my drawings! It pisses me off!
Just… eh, what is wrong with my hands? Why can't I portray him well? Innos, give me strength…
You know, that's kinda funny to me: all of my, as it appeared to be, diary covered in Miltens portraits. I mean, all the back side of my journal. Damn, if I'll keep going in drawing this… ah, to Beliar this — if I'll keep going in drawing this handsome man like this, then I'll run out of parchment and charcoal very quickly. Torrez could run a whole parchment business, cause I'm going to spend all of my ore on this.
Maybe, I should ask Milten to pose me, so I could scrutinize him? No, he'll send me off with such a request. Or, perhaps, just speak with him and examine him while we are talking? That's a bad idea too: Milten will think that I'm some kind of freak. Do I need this? No, not at all. I don't want to be a bad man in his eyes. Strange thought, but hey, I need friends in this fucking place. Especially if I want to get out. Someone's help won't harm.
Wait, what is Milten doing here? Doesn't he supposed to be in his chamber, resting? It's late, and if… oh, Innos, he's heading outside of the camp. Alright, I guess it is a great opportunity to spend some time with him. And, of course, he'll need someone watching his back in this dangerous adventure of his.
