When vulnerability comes to haunt me, I look for you

Summary:

Spoke stepped out of the nether portal

Work Text:

Spoke stepped out of the nether portal

The fresh air of the overworld flooded his nostrils, sunlight fell over his face, and he closed his eyes as he tilted his head towards the sky, relaxing just for a moment, the warmth of the jungle forest almost felt like a hug of nostalgia enveloping him.

Almost as if too peaceful, something, or rather, someone also got out of the same portal and said "Spoke. I must assure you that the mission was mostly a success and-"

Spoke frowned slightly, feeling his body go tense again before calming down his own expression, doing his best to seem relaxed, then saying "Yes, yes commander. Thank you. .... But for this, you won't be needing to accompany me, I can do this on my own. You may take your leave. I'll come back. ... Soon enough."

The null commander just stared at Spoke's back, if Spoke could see or even imagine his face, commander probably would be with an suspicious expression, but he knew better than question, and simply spoke up again "As you wish, my Lord. Excuse me." He said, taking a single second before simply going into the nether portal and disappearing

Spoke stood alone in the juggles for a minute, feeling himself relax before the same ugly and menacing feelings flooded through his head, the juggle was quiet, as always, only the sounds of birds chirping, animals walking by and the wind are to be heard, a perfect calm place where Spoke could only feel desperate and exposed

Soon enough Spoke began to walk, and then he started to run, desperate, the little grip he had over his own emotions was starting to slip, and the only thing he could think of was that he 'needed to see mom, and quick'.

After some time running, Spoke stopped in front of a house, his breath ragged and heavy, he knocked once before opening the door, then closed the door behind him as soon as he stepped in the house, taking off all his armor and tossing it away carelessly

Tears started to threaten to spill, he swallowed his own cries and walked in, looking around before quickly hurrying to the living room, where a figure was sat on the sofa couch

Parrot, he was reading, peacefully enough, but he had noticed Spoke's sudden appearance long ago, the avian looked up from his book and turned his gaze to look at the voidling, he smiled gently, but didn't say anything yet

Spoke stiffed a little, then with a trembly voice he asked politely "... Could I stay with you? .. Just. ... For a while. ... Please mama."

Parrot's smile softened along with his gaze, the avian closed his book and placed it carefully aside, he nodded and said "Come here my star.." he said gently as he patted his own lap

Spoke felt like the weight he had upon his shoulders had been suddenly vanished, he sat on the sofa besides Parrot, before lowering his head to the avians lap, the voidling felt himself let out a shaky breath before sniffing

Parrot gently placed a hand over Spoke's hair, passing a hand through his gently, being careful and starting to fix Spoke's dark curls, giving him caresses just like he used to when Spoke was still a child, fingers passing through his hair, always being careful to not tangle the curls

Spoke let out a small cry, feeling like a child all again, tears finally started to spill as he spoke up "I've fought with someone, who took care of us.. I've.. Abandoned two.. Friends. ... Please don't be mad at me mama.. I've been trying, it's for the best.. ... Please believe me.." he cried out, vulnerability spilling as if he didn't fought so hard to prove he was fine, that it was nothing, as if mocking his efforts to act like his vulnerability doesn't exist

Parrot stayed quiet, he sighed before continuing to run his fingers through the curls, then speaking up carefully "I'm not mad, I promise.. ... And. ... I believe you. You wouldn't lie to me, right my little star?"

Spoke sniffed, still sobbing silently, before quickly nodding and saying "... Right..!" he said, with his voice breaking slightly, Parrot's lap was starting to get wet with the voidlings tears, but he didn't seem to mind

They stayed just like that in a comfortable silence for a while, until Spoke's tears had stopped and breath had eventually got even once again, Parrot simply stayed, and ran his fingers through his little brother's hair

Spoke hated those feelings, displaying such vulnerability was so humiliating, but, with Parrot was different, here everything was different. He was home, with family, and family endures, they stay, they work out their problems.. ... At least is what they tried to do.

And that seemed enough for now.

It wasn't so long until Parrot finally spoke up "Star, you forgot to take off your shoes.." He said softly chuckling, Spoke didn't look up, he simply sniffed and said quietly "I'm sorry.."

Parrot looked at the man in his own lap, then spoke up again "It's fine. Feeling better little star..?" He said, Spoke hummed, and didn't really answer, the avian sighed and said "Star.. little star?? ... Supernova." He said softly

Spoke paused and looked up, the other smiled softly and said "There is food made, would you like a bit?" The avian asked

Spoke paused before nodding and saying "Yea.. That would be nice, I miss your cooking mama.." he said softly, Parrot nodded and tried to get up, which Spoke hasn't agreed to that yet

Sure. He was hungry.. well- not really. He didn't really need to eat, but he still enjoyed his mama's cooking. Yet, he didn't want to move yet.

It took a little time of convincing before Spoke finally allowed Parrot to get up and go to the kitchen put their food on the table

Spoke fidgeted with his own hands, looking down at his own lap as he thinks

He still felt... Bad? Well. Not that, but it was still uncomfortable to come up with the terms he just had a fight with their parent, Minute, the man didn't want to fight him, Spoke also didn't want to do so, but he had to. It's the only way.. ... Still. What's done is done. Not really anything he can do now, he'll fix things later. ... Surely he will. Right?

Spoke just shook his head, took a deep breath and then asked calmly "Mama. Are the other two coming?" He asked calmly, turning his head towards the kitchen

Parrot awnsered calmly from the kitchen "They should be coming soon.!"

Spoke thought, before smiling slightly and saying "We should definitely have a sleepover!" The voidling said excited, Parrot chuckled but didn't argue against the idea

Maybe just for today. Spoke could live a little with his family, in his home. ... Right?
