“Tilly death do us part Pearl”
The TNT was lit.
“Tilly death do us part!”
It lit up the world in a sick bright light as she felt the pain her soulmate felt as he stood upon the explosion.
What surprised Pearl most was the fact she was still alive. Her pain was no longer there, and she patted her doggy's head in remorse for Scott’s life. She glanced over to where she knew the smoky dust of his life would be fading away. The crater was there, a sick reminder of his kindness to a lost cause like herself.
Another surprise was the fact his body was still there. Bruised, broken and still but there nonetheless.
She ran over and fell to her knees next to him, tears starting in her chest at his suffering. She checked his pulse… nothing nothing noth- wait. A small heartbeat but sluggish and slow but there. Surveying his injuries though it was a twisted reality to know he was definitely not going to make it.
The blood that would be spilling was cauterised and still his wounds were deep and severe. Her eyes averted the bleeding and gory mess that was his left arm and instead pulled his head and torso into her arms.
Reality was sinking in and it was stupidly ironic. Here she was, holding her sworn enemy as he took his final breaths. His breath hitched and a whimper of pain escaped his lips. It was a mercy he was unconscious but only a small one. Mercy doesn't undo the irreparable damage she saw now.
Her dogs were slumped against her and Scott, their warm bodies and white fur being stained with what blood escaped. Her tears seemed like the only sound in the world right now, other than his raggedy breaths.
Pearl chose to listen to his heartbeat instead. She pressed her ear to his chest and counted the beats.
Bu-bum.
Bu-bum.
Bu-bum.
…
Bu-bum.
Bu-bum.
Bu-bum.
Bu-
bum.
Then silence.
His breathing stopped with his final exhale being foggy in the chill of the night, his body started to chill around the edges. She interlaced her frostbitten fingers with his own, a reminder of how much pain she in knowingly inflicted on him.
His body started to crumble into the usual smoke and dust of death, only this time he wouldn't wake up again.
Scott Smajor was now dead.
“I guess I forgive you after all…”
