Chapter Text
It wasn’t a little girl or even a small child who Sam heard call him Captain America. Instead, it was a group of teens walking home together after school.
Sam wasn’t in uniform, just average clothes and a mission to eat some cheap breakfast when he heard it.
“Yo! Is that Captain America?!”
Sam turned and saw a group of five looking at him. The first thing that Sam noticed wasn’t the mix of different ethnicities - Two Asians, one dark skinned, one white and light skinned - no, he noticed how their faces lit up when looking at him.
He grinned and gave a small wave back. It didn’t go unnoticed how one teens eyes were suspiciously shiny.
It dawned on Sam later that day that he knew the kid. Years younger and in his mothers arms after Sam had saved her. His eyes were wide and shiny, but for a different reason than now.
It gave Sam hope. That he could do this. That he could be Captain America.
