Chapter Text
Caroline woke with a pounding headache and the chorus of “What the Hell” playing in her head. Or her singing it? She couldn't figure it out. Bright sunlight flashed on her face, forcing her awake.
She groaned, sitting up in the bed before feeling the slight weight of someone’s arm across her stomach.
Slowly, she turned to find the worst thing she ever expected: Elena, deep under the covers, fast asleep next to her. Fortunately, they both had their clothes on. But that didn't stop Caroline from wondering…
"Oh God, did we?" she pondered.
"No, that's impossible. Who keeps their clothes on during sex?"
"Did we even have sex?"
"Oh my God, did I moan? Did I—"
Caroline's near-spiral was interrupted when she caught Elena staring at her. Her hair was a frizzy, tangled mess, and her mascara was running. Somehow, she still looked cute.
Confusion etched her face until she realized where she was—and who she was with—and jumped out of bed.
For almost 2 minutes, they just stared until Elena finally spoke.
"Did we just—"
"Yep."
"Oh."
Awkward.
"So, we can just forget about it?" Why did I say that!?!
"I mean, do we have to?"
Her heart skipped a beat.
"We were drunk," Elena continued, "everyone does stupid things then."
"Right. You're so right."
Another awkward silence followed. For a while, the two could barely look at each other without blushing. Finally, Caroline got out of bed, already planning to leave before this situation got unbearable.
"I should just go—" she said, finally.
"Yeah," Elena blurted a bit too quickly.
She grabbed her shoes and clutch before heading out the door, but then she stopped herself. Before leaving her room, she said something that sounded a lot better in her head.
"See you at school!"
Damn it.
