Velvet Migraine

Summary:

Six comes home to an unusually quiet house, filled with panic he finds you laying on the couch, asleep with a migraine and takes care of you the rest of the night. Pouring as much love and care into you as he can.

Notes:

This is my first fic so please don't be mean, I tried. If this does well I may do more because I always have Courtland Gentry on the brain. <3

(also he needs more love and appreciation)

Work Text:

A cool autumn breeze fills the late afternoon as Six arrives back home. He opens the door to an unusually quiet house. Unusual meaning there's no music playing or TVs on like there always is. You hated quiet, so there was always something faintly playing in the background, but this time nothing. It’s strangely dark in your small shared apartment too. Nothing but the stove light on in the kitchen and the tableside lamp in the living room. Panic immediately spilling over Six as he realizes something isn’t right. As much as he wants to yell out for you, he doesn’t. In quick, swift steps, he makes his way through your apartment, his old tactics coming out to play. Looking for any sign of danger, he quietly makes his way down the hallway into the living room, only to find no danger at all, just you, curled up on the couch, asleep in one of his big t-shirts with an ice pack laid across your forehead.

Relief fills his body at the sight, but the feeling doesn’t last long as concern washes over his face when he realizes he’s never seen you like this before. No blanket, no pillow, just you and the ice pack melting against your forehead as you curl into the couch, the most comfortable position you could find as a migraine took over your entire body just an hour before.

You didn’t get them as often as you used too, well mainly while Six was still working, but he’s been retired for a few months now, and with the stress finally coming off your shoulders, the constant migraines went with it. You always got them while he was gone, so you never told him about them, as though not wanting him to worry about you even more than he already was.

This one came completely out of nowhere and hit you like a freight train. Just going about your daily ritual while Six was out taking Claire to a friend’s house for the weekend. It hit your whole body, blurring your vision, making you lightheaded, nauseous; the world was painful to live in, so you shut everything down as quickly as you could. The TV, the blinds, all but two of the lights so Six could see when he came back home, everything. Grabbed an ice pack from the freezer and laid on the couch; that’s the furthest you could make it before the throbbing in your head worsened and you couldn’t take it anymore.

Six slowly walks over to you and removes the ice pack. He kneels next to you, caressing your cold forehead with his warm hand. His face full of concern, hands brushing softly through your hair.

“Hey baby” he whispers, trying to carefully wake you.

“mmm” you let out a soft, almost pained groan rolling over to meet his face.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” his voice softer now.

Eyes half-lidded as you try to look at him, still painful but you manage to meet his soft gaze as he waits for a response. “My head hurts so bad Court” you manage to get out before the pain sweeps over you again, tears swelling in your eyes.

“Oh baby, I’m so sorry” he whispers softly. His hand still caressing your head eases into soft, even lighter strokes as he knows it comforts you but he doesn’t want to make your condition worse.

“What can I do to help?” He says, standing up to assess the situation. His eyes never leaving your face, his expression softer than you’ve ever seen before. Silence.

Then a quiet “I don’t know” leaves your mouth as you roll over again, covering your eyes, the small lamp suddenly becoming too much to handle.

Quickly, Six turns it off; he can work his way around without it. He grabs the small throw blanket from the other end of the couch and tosses it over you, trying to make you as comfortable as possible. Looking around, he doesn’t see any drinks or painkillers lying around, so he assumes you haven’t taken any, or, well, you couldn’t take any considering you could barely look at him. Six hated seeing you in pain, but this was different; seeing you like this was almost unbearable for him, and he wanted to fix it, fast.

Swiftly, he made his way through the small apartment. First, the bathroom, rummaging through the medicine cabinet for anything he could find strong enough to ease this kind of pain. He grabs a bottle of Advil and gently closes the cabinet door, afraid any kind of noise will disturb you. Next, the kitchen. Quietly, he pours a glass of water from the pitcher kept in the fridge, emptying it, he promises he’ll fill it later, and sets it on the counter. He grabs a yogurt from the fridge and a spoon from the dishrack. Unsure when the last time you ate something was, he wants to offer a snack. Finally, he grabs a fresh ice pack from the freezer and makes his way back to the living room. Setting everything quietly on the table in front of you, he sits on the couch and leans over you, gently pressing a kiss on your cheek to get your attention.

“shh shh shh c’mere,” he whispers against your ear, slowly, carefully, pulling you into his lap. Sitting you upright against him, Six leans forward and grabs two Advil from the bottle and the glass of water. Handing you one at a time, putting the glass to your lips so you can take a drink. Cradling your head into his neck and pressing the ice pack to the back of yours, he rubs slow circles into your lower back. Making sure to stay as still as possible not to disturb you.

Your normally lively apartment is nothing but quiet tonight, just the sounds of the air conditioner and your shared breathing as you lay on top of Court. Feeling his chest rise and fall steadily beneath you, one hand wrapped around your waist holding you tightly against him, his warm breath against your neck. You love it. You love him. Somehow he always knows exactly what to do to make you feel better. Even when you don’t know, he does, and you love that about him. You love everything about him. He’s absolutely perfect.

Finally feeling the tension of the migraine ease from your neck, you lean back to look at him, fully look at him. His eyes meet yours, and you both just stare for a short while. A mix of love, contentment, desire, and gratitude fills your dimly lit apartment.

Before you could say anything, Court pulled you closer, planting a gentle kiss on your forehead and whispered “I love you”.

A small smile formed across your face as you kissed him, this time on the lips, slow and soft. “I love you too, Court,” you whisper and pull back, looking at him once more.

He lets out a deep breath and smiles, not wanting to break the somewhat intimate moment. “Do you want to eat something? I brought you yogurt. Or do you want to head to bed?”

Thinking for a second, you feel the lingering pain still in the back of your head. “Actually, could you draw me a bath? I think that would help,” you answer softly, wrapping your arms around his neck, pulling him closer.

In one swift motion, you’re swept off the couch safely in his arms. Wrapping your legs around his waist for a better hold, he makes his way to the bathroom. He sets you on the side of the tub, leaves for a quick moment, and returns with a few small candles and the glass of water from earlier. He turns the shower handles, letting the faucet run to the perfect temperature exactly how he knows you like it.

His attention now back on you as he takes his time removing your clothing. Each piece removed from your body with gentle hands, his calloused fingers grazing your bare skin, making you shiver as he removes the last piece. Now guiding you to your feet, Six wraps his arms tightly around you, pulling your now naked body into his warm embrace. He just holds you there for a short while, humming softly while he plants kisses on top of your head. Neither of you want to let go, so you just stand there, feeling his warm body against your cold skin, taking in every second of this beautifully intimate moment. Breathing in the scent of his cologne as he holds you as if you were something precious, something that should be cherished. To him, that’s exactly what you are, something precious. Something that belongs in a museum to be admired.

Six has never loved someone as he loves you; he never got the chance to. With his job, he never had the time to even think about love. That was, until he met you. Then everything changed, and now instead of spilling every ounce of himself into his work, he spills every ounce of himself into loving you. Neither of you could want it any other way.

After what feels like an eternity, Six slowly guides you into the soothing, warm water. It feels amazing on your aching back muscles, so you melt into the warmth almost immediately. Leaning over the tub, Six grabs your loofah and body soap. Lathering it in his hands, he gently makes his way across your soft skin, scrubbing away the stresses of the day. Across your shoulders, down your back, over your breasts, all the way down to your feet, he scrubs slow, gentle soapy circles over your body. Both of you are quiet while he does this, the comforting sensation making you drift off.

Only to be interrupted by Six tapping your shoulder and whispering “hey sweetheart, let's get you to bed okay?” as he pulls the drain from the bottom of the tub.

Slowly nodding in agreement, you reach out for him with both arms, and he takes your hands, carefully pulling you up. He wraps one arm tightly around your waist and lifts you out of the tub and onto the floor. Wrapping you tightly in a soft towel, he holds you in his arms again, keeping you close, making sure you’re safe. You free your arms from the towel and hug him back tighter than you ever have before. Never wanting to let go. Your face now buried in his chest, he kisses the top of your head once, twice, three times, before pulling back and walking you to the bedroom where he dresses you in one of his large t-shirts.

You climb into bed as he leaves the room to get himself ready for the night. After taking a quick shower Six returns in just a pair of sweatpants and crawls into his side of the bed. Now facing each other, you place a hand on his cheek, rubbing your thumb across the surface. He places a hand on your hip and pulls you slightly closer to him.

“Do you feel any better?” he says quietly, his eyes meeting yours.

“Yeah, I do. A lot better actually. Thank you, Court, for everything,” you reply as a smile sweeps across your face. Your hand still holding his.

He hums approvingly, a small smile forming across his face. “Of course, baby, I couldn’t let you suffer in pain like that. I had to do something,” he says, pulling you even closer to him, your lips meeting his in a slow, passionate kiss. Now flush against his chest, Six holds you tightly to him. Humming softly to you as you both drift to sleep. Nothing else matters right now. To you, the only important thing is Courtland Gentry. And to him, the only important thing is you, and that all that matters.

“Goodnight Court, I love you,” you murmur.

“Goodnight, sweetheart, I love you too. More than I know how to say,” he replies softly, planting one more kiss on your head as you both drift into sweet sleep.
